rtrahan123
I'm looking for some oppinions on what would be the best center channel speaker to match my Heresy's. I have two Heresy's for mains and two for surround in a 5 channel setup. I'm using a KV-1 center channel now, but I'm not impressed with it at all. I've been reading that the Academy is a good choice for the Reference Series. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
woodsman
I am sure that the most suggested center would be, another Heresy. You can find just one listed quite often on ebay. Jeff
rtrahan123
the size of the heresy is the only problem. I'm looking for something with good performance in a smaller size.
rcarlton
I have a Klipsch Legend KLF-C7 matched with Khorns in the front and Heresy's in the rear that works well for me. Can't fit a Heresy in the TV stand like I can the KLF-C7. These speakers can be found on Audiogon for less than $400.
DrWho
Is the height the only issue? A few guys on the forum have had pretty good success using the HF/MF section from the heresy and then using a flanking pair of 8" drivers. This would most likely yield the best timbre match and leave the option open for heresies all around in the future if your display or setup changes (just leave the empty cabinet laying around). Malcolm
IMHO in order of preference: another Heresy, custom box using Heresy tweeter, squawker and crossover with two smaller woofers (10" is my preference but you may be able to get by with some 8" woofers), Academy or KV4. The Academy is hard to come by, the KV4 even more so. Even these last two are compromises. Anything else is a big compromise. FWIW I have 5 Heresys and a good sub. colterphoto1
KLF-C7 working well with Cornwalls, wouldn't see why it woudn't be just as good with Heresy. I think if very versatile center speaker, as many of the others do. And it's not too expensive either. Michael
ScorpsFan
Another vote for the KLF-C7 here, works well for me. Best of luck.

DrWho
I should throw in a vote in for the KLF-C7 if you don't wanna build a custom center. It would definetly be more cost effective than an academy, but an academy might be another option to consider. I can't believe I'm recommending this, but you might also consider splitting the cabinet. Put the MF/HF section on top of your TV and then put the woofer somewhere else...just use the old screw holes to mount a board on the inside to cover up the holes. If you're careful it could be an entirely reversible mod.
ironwoods
Hi, I run a KV-3 with the Heresy mains. Seen them for around $160 on the used market.
hwatkins
I went with the modification mentioned. Being just a bit handy will work - I used fostex woofers for my center. Here it is naked:
hwatkins
And here it is on the shelf above the TV
