drewzter
are NOT magnetically shielded? How much do the bucking magnets cost, and how hard are they to put on... and do they work? My 15" dbx's are a good 3 to 4 feet from the TV, with a large, solid wood big-screen entertainment center in between them and the TV...and they still affect the picture some (of course they don't have any shielding or bucking magnets...) Just wondering, because there are some good deals going around, and I may be biting the bullet soon ------------------ Front: dbx Soundfield V -5-way w/15" woofers Center: KLF C7 Rear Surround: Polk RT f/x bipole/dipole Amp: Yamaha RX-V990 100x3; 25x2 DVD: Yamaha DVD S795 (built-in DD Processor) CD: Yamaha CDC 575 5-Disc VCR: Toshiba M752 6-head TV: Mitsubishi 40" Tube DirecTV Sony Playstation connected to V990 for awesome gaming picture & sound! boa12
drew, i had to do for my klf-30 but they're only about 1-2 feet from the tv. definitely see if they distort the picture 1st. moving the speakers a foot or so more away can make a big dif, but i didn't have that luxury. i did all driver magnets for i think around $100. call klipsch parts 1-800-klipsch for prices. you'll also need some instant epoxy glue from like a home depot. u'll want to glue on the buck magnets on the repeling side. i had to file out the cabinet holes for the tweeters to get the drivers w/ buck magnets back in. did take some work, bout 1-2 hrs. but worked great - stopped the distortion. ------------------ Klipsch KLF 30 (front) Klipsch KLF C7 (center) Klipsch Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Marantz SR-8000 receiver Acurus A200X5 power amp Sony DVP-C650D 5-disk cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2100 digital cable box Monster HTS2500 & HT200 powercenters Boa's Listenin Lounge: Klipsch RF-3, RC-3 Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage 1975) Russound AB-2 receiver switch to RF-3 Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd changer Technics SL-1950 turntable/AT LS500 cartridge Technics dual cassette deck Monster HTS1000 powercenter rock on! SteveLee
Great deal! I'm sure you'll love them! As for the shielding, be sure to experiment (a lot!) with placement. The interference falls off rapidly with distance, and the toe-in of each speaker has a big effect as well ...
Gnarly717
You will most surely want to shield because I didn't know about my KLF20 not being shielded. Now my TV has permament damage probably. My problem was the effect was so slow that I didn't notice until it was too late. Then I discoverd that at the time no matter how I placed them, I couldn't get them far enough away from my tv to stop the problem. Not happy about it..but my fault really. boa12, they didn't send glue, I am surprised. I have moved so I didn't shield mine yet but am still planning on it. I love thier sound but boy watch placement. They are picky. I have a horrible time getting smooth bass in my room. Always sounds stronger about 1 1/2 ft behind the couch. at the couch, I just get horns. I don't bid on ubid becase I can't afford the grief I'd get if I had a big package arrive w/o my wife knowing about it first. Unless of course it is her Christmas present gnarly ------------------ "The Legends Continue!"
drewzter
gnarly, have you tried getting a TV repairman to 'degauss' your tv? He may be able to fix it using a degaussing magnet to reverse the affects of the speaker magnets... by the way, you all, I am the world's biggest MORON! I totally forgot about uBid's bidding strategy where the price you type in is for ONE not BOTH speakers! (even though I've bought speakers from them before! total brain fart!) So, I'm in the process of cancelling the order... No way do I have the funds for $900 speakers right now... but there WILL come a day! ------------------ Front: dbx Soundfield V -5-way w/15" woofers Center: KLF C7 Rear Surround: Polk RT f/x bipole/dipole Amp: Yamaha RX-V990 100x3; 25x2 DVD: Yamaha DVD S795 (built-in DD Processor) CD: Yamaha CDC 575 5-Disc VCR: Toshiba M752 6-head TV: Mitsubishi 40" Tube DirecTV Sony Playstation connected to V990 for awesome gaming picture & sound! Gnarly717
Yeah, I had a tv guy try to fix it. no luck. gonna try some magnets to help pull it back in. but at this point, I think i have the perfect excuse to geta HDTV when the prices drop a little more hhmmmmm, maybe I don't want to try too hard to fix the tv. ------------------ "The Legends Continue!"
