Cybernalt
I am finishing a Home Theater and still need a center channel (and a sub - but that's another subject). Right now, I have K-horn mains, RS-7's on the side and two Heresy 1's in the back. The room is very large - 30' wide x 36' deep with a peaked roof (to 14', running the length) with the couch about 15 feet back from the screen which is centered on the 30' wall. The K-horns are about 12' apart, false walls angle them towards the center. I was thinking of buying a RC-7 or Academy (looking for an eBay deal), but then I remembered - hey, I have in the garage a spare set of real theater heresy's (RTH's) - the kind made from 1/2" plywood. Perhaps it makes sense to build new boxes for the RTH's (to fit the available hole better), and align the horns (what's the best way?) and effectively have a double-heresy center channel. The best aesthetic configuration would be the four horns above the TV and the 12" 'ers in separate boxes behind the TV, but I'm open to ideas. Any Advice Givers? Thanks in advance I don't frequent this place much - perhaps this has been covered and someone can send me a link.
sunburnwilly
For your present system the only thing I can recomend is either a single La Scala or Belle . Why fool around with anything else ?
sunburnwilly
Oh , and by the way , you may want to move completely in that direction !
Coytee
I was thinking of buying a RC-7 or Academy (looking for an eBay deal), but then I remembered - hey, I have in the garage a spare set of real theater heresy's (RTH's) - the kind made from 1/2" plywood. Having used an Academy in between two LaScalas, I'd suggest something different from that. As I recall, I had the center channel pumped ALL the way up to help compensate for the fact that the LaScalas simply drowned it out. That was my experience anyway... j-malotky
Cyber, when I replied to your email, I did not realize your room was that large. Forget the RC7 or Academy. In my room 22' wide x 34' deep, the Heresy did not have enough guts to keep up with the Khorn mains. I feer you will have the same results, but put one in duty and see? Remember that the main goal in a center is midrange. Do you have room for a LAS for a center? I would not use two K77's and two K700 horns, but go to a single tweeter and squawker to eliminate any strange harmonics. If you are going to build a center, I would recomend using a single K400 midrange. In larger rooms the K400 is much more effective than the K500, 600 or 700. Running your two Heresy woofers will work great, that is what I do. Three things to remember, first two K22's puts you at a 99db ( alot better match to the 104db HF section of the Khorn.) Second, the Heresy woofers work find in HT where you roll off bass to your subs at 80hz. Third, It is very easy to turn down the Squawker to match your dual woofer 99dba. But most of the ones I have worked on, I keep the midrange a tad hot, to give the vocals a touch more clerity. JM
j-malotky
Here are some older pics of my HT from the old forum if you want to see my custom center. http://forums.klipsch.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=50440 JM
Dirk Diggler
I am in NC and have a single La Scala available. Put that in the center and use your heresys on the side for an all heritage HT. It's tough to beat.
