pHEnomIC69
I am an audio/video enthusiast and my family is building a new house. I have always been mostly into computer multimedia and car audio but, we do have a pretty nice home theatre system (parents paid a company to do it and i redid it a few years ago. Its very nice custom built furniture that houses a big tv, bose 5.1 system, pioneer amp, pioneer laserdisk/cd player, xbox for gamind and dvds (modchipped so i will have a lot more functionality as well), dreamcast in there as well, got a record player, casette player, vcr, etc.) At our new house we are probably gonna start from scratch on a more modern system and put all this equipment in the basement or something fora 2nd setup. We are at the architect stage right now so we are making our floor plan. I don't have much time, but can anyone give me some general guidelines of what is necessary to make an optimum home theatre setup? I want to know what is important to plan at this stage. Things such as room acoustics, sound deadening, wiring, etc. I do have a good idea of background knowledge and i will do some research on my own but, don't want to be overwhelmed because things are going quick. I'm thinking of a klipsch speaker system because i love my promedias soo much. Not sure on the electronic components, but probably will want to get some digital sound support and good quality wiring. I think it would also be a good idea to incorporate a hometheatre pc in there as well, already have one sort of built. But can anyone tell me what i should be doing at this stage and what i should be planning on?
paulio
if it was me, I'd make sure there was a wall that lends itself well to use with a projector, I'd also make sure there was a receptacle in the ceiling for the projector. I'd also figure out at what height the rear surrounds will be, and have them wired to the correct height. I know nothing about acoustics, so hopefully someone else can give you some insight on that. Oh, and for lighting, I highly reccomend lutron remote control dimmers. they work very well for a dedicated theater room.

dougdrake
Glad you asked in advance, but this can be a very far-reaching discussion, most of which has likely been fleshed out in a lot of detail already over at the AVS Forum, at www.avsforum.com. See the Dedicated Home Theater forum over there. Naturally, we all second your motion to use Klipsch speakers
consistent
Hi, Try www.cardas.com there is some interesting information on the 'golden cube' set up. And yes it does work if you have the speakers that can best utilize the math as explained. It gives you ideal room dimensions. Even PWK spoke of similar measurments as the theory and practice has been around for hundreds of year. The most important thing you can do is room acoustics. The better the room the better your sight and sound will be. You can buy the best of the best but it may still sound awful if your room does not work. Strabo
A big enough room, Room treatments, Parametric EQ for the sub ( I rank this higher than even having rear speakers).
Myhamish
Just a thought here. I always have an awkward time getting access to my equipment because it's mounted below the tv in a heavy cabinet. It I could get the hardware built into a dividing wall where I had easy access from the back, it'd be so much easier. Keep us posted and good luck with a great project. boom3
A large Caller ID display so you can see whos calling and whether you should pause your media or not...seriously, this is the mopst useful HT accessory (aside from a unified remote, like a Pronto) I can think of. Radio Shack sells a large Caller ID display.
