T2K
I thought this thread was going to be about central Europe. Keith
DizRotus
"Take not from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned". Thomas Jefferson author of The Declaration of Independence Keith This quote would have more validity were it not attributed to a man who "owned" other men and women in the form of slaves. pauln
"Take not from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned". Thomas Jefferson author of The Declaration of Independence Keith This quote would have more validity were it not attributed to a man who "owned" other men and women in the form of slaves. Typical Republican, huh? Keith The Whig Party was divided over the philisophical, moral, ethical, and religious issue of people as property. The party split into two factions: the Republicans, who stood against slavery; and the remainder of the Whigs, who faded into the pages of history. So, yes - DizRotus' observation is not just typical Republican, it is the fundamental basis for that party's genesis. Must be one of those nights, didn't take long for this thread to get OT. What's making everyone to restless? Worried about the market crash coming Monday morning?
DizRotus
My observation was not meant as a criticism of the Jefferson quote, but merely to point out that Jefferson, apparently, did not practice what he preached. I've got no quarrel with the substance of Jefferson's quote regarding labor or Lincoln's quoted commments regarding labor and capital. I do question the point of including them as part of an audio forum. I must be dense. It didn't occur to me that Keith might be suggesting that I was a "Typical Republican;" I thought he was referring to Jefferson.
