fgarib
Hi there, We just celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary, and my wife just gave me a $200 certificate to buy all the music that I want from Amazon.com!!! Love her for that! So I've been trying to get a jazz collection going for the past couple of years, reading posts that people like Allan Songer following their advice. Thus far, the few musicians that I've bought (just to name a few), Coleman Hawkins, Louis Armstrong, Buck Clayton, Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck... The above are the ones that I really like. So I hope this gives you an idea of the sort of music I'm looking for. I wanted some advice on how to spend my money. A couple that I know that I want are: Miles Davis - Kind of Blue, and John Coltrane / Thelonious Monk Live at Carnegie Hall or Coltrane's The Ultimate Blue Train. People, please help out. I do want to include some Funky / Acid Jazz that's always fun. Like the New Orleans Nightcrawlers, or the like. But only say about 20%. I figure at an average of 12-15 bucks a cd, i can buy about 10-12 and have some money left over for either a couple of books or (more likely a couple dvd's. Suggestions anyone? Any help would be highly appreciated... Regards, Fauzi

fgarib
jacksonbart, That's the great thing about a gift certificate! You print it out, light a cigar with it... and still have 200 bucks to spend! Thanks to both of you!! This is great... you do a search on the cd's, download previews... listen and see if you like it... all before buying them. Keep 'em coming... need to order soon... Thanks! -Fauzi

Johnny dB
Would those be considered Allan's Essentials to Jazz? As a jazz newbie, I'm taking notes.
Allan Songer
I don't know about "essentials," but they are are really REALLY great albums that are accessible to the novice jazz listener without being pablum. On second thought, many of these ARE essential!
