Cal Blacksmith
Hitachi recommends that the air filter gets cleaned at least every 100 hours and that the unit gets cleaned and checked over at bulb change which is at 2000 hours. Nothing more than that.
picky
I vacuum all of the vent openings every three months. It's 3 years old and never been in the shop.
j-malotky
Like Picky, I clean my about every 3 months too. I use a vacume to get the dust build up off of the vents, then take a can of compressed air and blow it out. JM
SCOOTERDOG
I do exactly what JM does. I just cleaned mine about a week ago and found very little dust in the screens. If you do regular cleaning of your pj will stay pretty clean. scooter
tkot
my thoughts concerning cleaning were about going inside the unit. even with the air filter i can see some dust ect inside the unit and was wondering about this. i have had the change filter warning come on twice in three years and changed the filter at that time. should i be concerned or not? jay
SCOOTERDOG
I have never had my warning come on yet. I think you have to look at it from the stand point of general maintenance. I clean mine pretty regularly and as far as the inside goes, I remove the lamp housing and clean the screens with a small vacuum and while the housing is out I use compressed air to blow it out abd the inside. The trick here IMO is not to pull the trigger all the way, gently shoot the air in. However, Before I do this I take a Q Tip with a little rubbing alcohol and suave the inside area for dust. I NEVER EVER touch the color wheel. Once this is done I use the compressed air. Seems to work like a charm! scooter
tkot
scooter, i did just that(the compressed air thing in the lamp hole) and ended up with a green dot about an inch across, in the upper left hand corner of the picture.( only shows up when the picture is dark) after doing some research ive come to the conclusion that i have dislodged a dust partical that landed on the green chip and was wondering what to do about it jay
SCOOTERDOG
Man I would hate to mess with the color wheel to try and get to that. I would make a call to the manufaturers tech support and talk with a tech. Most of the time they can tell you what you can and can not do. I'm sure you can turn the wheel to expose the green lens. I would ask them what would be the best way to remove the the dust particle. I don't think a Qtip would be the right thing to use as they may scratch the lens. You might even ask a camera shop what they use to clean the inside optics and find out if there is a way to get your hands on something they use. But the first thing I would do is talk to a tech and get there feedback. scooter
