the extended warranty i purchased with my projector is now in effect(read the factory warranty is done)

the unit is used in a smoke free environment

but a fairly dusty one

the warranty gives one one cleaning per year and as of yet i have not had the unit cleaned(sony also offered this but wanted me to send the unit to texas and give it up for 3 weeks, so i passed)

whats everyone else do?

also has anyone had the projector cleaned and had problems with the picture, ect. after the cleaning?

my thoughts concerning cleaning were about going inside the unit.

even with the air filter i can see some dust ect inside the unit

and was wondering about this.

i have had the change filter warning come on twice in three years and changed the filter at that time.

should i be concerned or not?

I have never had my warning come on yet. I think you have to

look at it from the stand point of general maintenance. I clean mine pretty regularly

and as far as the inside goes, I remove the lamp housing and clean the screens

with a small vacuum and while the housing is out I use compressed air to blow

it out abd the inside. The trick here IMO is not to pull the trigger all the way,

gently shoot the air in. However, Before I do this I take a Q Tip with a little rubbing alcohol and suave the inside area for

dust. I NEVER EVER touch the color wheel. Once this is done I use the

compressed air. Seems to work like a charm!

scooter,

i did just that(the compressed air thing in the lamp hole) and ended up with a green dot about an inch across, in the upper left hand corner of the picture.( only shows up when the picture is dark)

after doing some research ive come to the conclusion that i have dislodged a dust partical that landed on the green chip

and was wondering what to do about it

Man I would hate to mess with the color wheel to try and get to that. I

would make a call to the manufaturers tech support and talk with a

tech. Most of the time they can tell you what you can and can not do.

I'm sure you can turn the wheel to expose the green lens. I would ask

them what would be the best way to remove the the dust particle. I

don't think a Qtip would be the right thing to use as they may scratch

the lens. You might even ask a camera shop what they use to clean the

inside optics and find out if there is a way to get your hands on

something they use. But the first thing I would do is talk to a tech

and get there feedback.
