Audible Nectar
We start our day at the Renaissance Center in downtown Detroit (known to locals as "Ren Cen"). In addition to being GM Headquarters, it served as NFL Headquarters and the Super Bowl XL Media Center for Super Bowl Week.

Audible Nectar
Looking from the second level at entry, looking down on "Radio Row". This is where many national and local radio shows were broadcast from throughout the week.

Audible Nectar
Since the weather and landscape didn't figure to be conducive to good tailgating, we booked a pregame brunch with this place - Seldom Blues, part owned by Lions defensive end Robert Porcher. This place is FIRST CLASS. The brunch was sponsored by the local ABC affiliate, who was broadcasting local pregame inside. Note also the "Donald Fagen" ad on the right - that should tell you something about the class of entertainment this place gets. The Governor even showed up. Audible Nectar
After the pregame brunch, we walk downtown through the "Motown Winter Blast", a large festival which served as the backdrop to Super Bowl XL. This had four stages of live music, food, drink, souvenier shops, ice sculptures, and winter activities.

Audible Nectar
If you are going to tailgate, you gotta do it with the pros. This is "Tailgate Joe", (along with me and the miss). Joe has traveled over 37,000 miles this year in an effort to raise funds and goods for those affected by Hurricane Katrina and others on the gulf coast. Audible Nectar
The first of three security checkpoints at Super Bowl XL. That's Comerica Park (home of the Detroit Tigers) you see just beyond the fence. It was inside the security "perimeter".
