QUiKSR20
Hey guys I have the opertunity to buy either the KSW 12 or the Velodyne CHT10 which sounds better? handles more power? I know the KSW 12 weighs in at 36lbs or so and the Velodyne 55Lbs but weight doenst always tell the story as to which is a better sub. I would like whichever one sounds better and hits harder I would rather keep it klipsch if they will be simular ------------------ Daryl Gregg. ------------------------ My HT Setup so far ------------------------ Reciever - SONY STR-DE975 ( 110x5 ) DVD Player - SONY DVP-NS400D Center - Klipsch KSCC1 Mains - SB-3's Rears - Quintet's Sub - KSW 12 or Velodyne CHT10 ( AHHH DECISIONS ) Cables are all AR Proseries and tv is just a Panasonic POS for now. Mike Lindsey
Well, here is the list that Tom Vodhanel had listed from Tom Nousaine's reviews. It doesn't have the Velodyne on there but the KSW-12 finished in the middle of the pack... dougdrake2
Mike - You beat me to the punch. I was going to add that I think the 12" would be preferably to the 10" woofer. It's a good compromise between the oomph of a 15" and the speed of a 10". If you can swing a good 12" sub, I'd go for it. The KSW-12 is a fine sub. I have a Velo CT-120 (the predecessor to the CHT-120) which finishes a little higher in the Nousaine list than the KSW-12 (and higher than the LF-10, too, interestingly enough) and I like it as well. bacevedo
I think I need to chime in here. I have the KSW 12, and while a great sub for the price, I am definitely going to upgrade it. Either to an SPL1200 or an RSW12. (But also looking at the Hsu VTF-2) The list is great, but you have to read everything on the list to get the whole picture. The list is ordered by average output, so the KSW 12 places in the middle of the pack (100 db average). You have to also look at the other numbers, though, namely the extension (lowest frequency) and its output at that frequency. The KSW 12 does 90 db at 25Hz, and 70db at 20Hz. But look up a little on the list and you see the CT120 (I know you are looking at the 10, but its not on the list). Its average output is only slightly more than the KSW 12 (1 db) but its 20 Hz output is 17db louder! That is a huge difference. You would need like 8 KSW 12's to match it at that frequency. What you can't see from the list (you have to read the review) is that the maximum output of the KSW 12 is at something like 62Hz - so the average is pulled up at the higher bass frequencies. So the 100 db average is not the same between different subs. I would say to try and listen to them both, doing a comparison, and seeing which one you like the sound of. It could be that the smaller woofer (the 10) has better bass quality and deeper extension, or maybe not. But it depends on what you like. Remember that the Hsu VTF-2 is like $500, and whips both of these subs with only a 10" woofer. It is closer to the top of the list, and plays with the big boys. My point - the list is great - but you have to look at the whole list, and secondly, use the list to narrow it down, but listen to the ones you want buy, and do the comparison there. forresthump
KSW are inferior Subs. Especially to Velodyne. Get the Velo. That a no brainer. ------------------ go forth & hump the world
