Kudret
I am looking for a pair of Type A crossovers for my '75 Khorns. I prefer the networks with new components and Jensen, Hovland, Theta, etc. capacitors I built a pair of DHA2xovers and used them for the past several months. Then I modfied my original Type AA's into A's and I really liked the balance and detail I am hearing with Type A's. I also have a spare Type E that I can convert into Type A with with new caps, but instead of messing with old networks I wanted to see if I can get a Type A with all new components. I've also contemplated converting DHX2s into ALK Jr.s and probably I will do that along the way, but I decided to settle with Type As for a while. If you have a pair of Type A for sale that fit the description please let me know. Kudret
PrestonTom
Kudret, You have confused me. When you converted the AA into an A, what is the problem. Are you looking for newer parts or more exotic brands. I would think that if you are handy enough to convert an AA into an A, then it should not be a problem to swap (freshen up) the caps in the crossover. It is not clear to me, that there is a benefit to replacing inductors or autoformers also (unless you are doing a re-design). Good Luck, -Tom
Deang
You must be really digging into low volume territory to prefer a Type A over the DHA. I hear you though, nothing I've heard sounds as good to me as that little four part filter in the 65-75dB range. Want it even better? Make it a three part filter. When I run mine I don't even use the low pass section -- I just run the bass bin full out. Got that idea from some guy named Paul. You know how to solder, why don't you just build them? Kudret
... instead of messing with old networks I wanted to see if I can get a Type A with all new components. Preston, I have read some time ago that using 12 ga solid core inductors improve the bass response and I also believe that better caps make a difference. The problem for me is not building them but ordering the components from here and there. Dean, You are exactly right. Most of my listening is below 70dB and I am hoping to get the best out of Type A networks. I am very interested in trying them without the low pass filter. Thank you for the suggestion. Dean, I disconnected the 2.5 mH inductor and connected the (+) of the woofer directly, but nothing comes out of woofer. Am I doing it wrong, or is it because of the low power amp I am using? Kudret EDIT: Dean, disregard. It was a bad jumper wire (what are the chances of that). Without the inductor, I found the sound to be a bit muffled. I put in the 12 ga Solen solid core 2.4 mH inductor now (instead of the 2.5 mH stock Klipsch inductor) and I am happy with the what I am hearing. Dflip
Solen, http://solen.ca/ in Montreal will sell you the inductors and Parts Connexion, http://partsconnexion.com will sell you the caps that you need, and all in Canada so you don't get stiffed at the border. Parts Express in the US, http://partsexpress.com/ is also fine, just tell them to send the good USPS. I have ordered stuff from them as well. Not as convenient as being in the US, but it can be done. Kudret
Thanks, Don. I haven't purchased from partsexpress but I've done business with the other two. If one were to go all out on the caps, which caps would you recommend for the Type A network?[6] Kudret
