DrWho
I think I mentioned it already but today was totally packed with audio...I volunteered to do a live recording of a concert - but in the middle of it all I couldn't pass up on the AES meeting where klipsch would be presenting on stuff.... Anyways, I had 15 minutes to set up the recording rig which consisted of my home computer and a Motu 896HD patched into the sound system and one mic to pick up everything else. I turned the system on, went to the meeting, and then came back to one fricken awesome show. I redialed in the recording system...change some mic positions during acts, but for the most part I got to sit back and just enjoy the music. The concert consisted of half a dozen bands doing a fundraiser for other music programs in the area (like the local highschools and stuff like that). There was a huge turn out and they made tons of money. I mention this because it's cool, but also to point out that they were doing the show on as low of a budget as possible. Everything was set up last minute and not everything wasn't running through the PA either - talk about sound man nightmare. Nevertheless, it was a blast and most of the time it sounded great. During the AES meeting, Rich was talking about how tight-knit the audio industry is - it's hard to get a job and even if you do - the job sucks so you really need a strong passion for audio to survive. I've known this for a while and have been searching for other more reliable fields that grab my interest, but after a shows like these my passion for audio just keeps getting more and more. I just can't get away from audio (I work as a sound guy for the courtyard cafe venue where I mix about twice a week - and my boss is encouraging me to kick off what I call "campus idol" which is a sort of sound guy / musician training thing I've wanted to do...) So ya, I'm totally stoked and dying for the next live performance. I'm not sure if I mentioned it on the forums, but at the last live performance I mixed for there was a drummer that busted out into a 30 minute solo that totally made niel peart look like a little kid (and I love peart!) But what really topped off the evening was how well (considering the situation) the recording turned out...the guy organizing the show was anticipating just throwing a tape recorder in the middle of the audience. So when he heard the raw untouched 8 track recording he was totally floored. It's a cool feeling when you totally exceed someone's expectations...and I haven't even produced the final recording yet... Well that's my story and I'm sure all you old guys are remembering back to your good 'ol college years...before this semester I had been away from live concerts for about 2 years and man am I happy to be back in it. Ya know...there are a bunch of musically inclined forum members...it would be a blast to get a few of you guys together sometime and start a "klipsch rock band" []

DrWho
heck ya [] Put Roger on the vocals. Colter provide the sound system. And I know there are a ton of guitar players. Any bass guys? I think it's Griffin? on recording duties (been a while since I've seen him post...). Are there any keyboard/piano players on the forum? I'm sure there are a few wives that could be coaxed into singing backup vocals too (Mrs. Malotky comes to mind...) I say it half in jest and half serious, but maybe we could put a band together for one of the future pilgrimages? I think most of the guys that play have the ability to get some form of recording onto the pc....we could totally produce the first ever recorded-entirely-over-the-internet album. [H] (ya know, it's not much different than laying down a track at a time with click tracks).

edwinr
Actually, I could be a drummer too, because I can't play any musical instrument... []
DrWho
lol! this thread reminds me of school of rock...I think Ed should be the band manager or in charge of public relations.... Btw, if you're serious about this project then I think we should get a new thread started (with a title that will catch more people's attention). And then we'll have to pick a song that everyone knows...probably something with a very steady tempo so that we can use a click track everywhere (there will of course be some slight timing errors, but that's where the wonderful world of time-scaling comes into play) []
