Erik Mandaville
It's funny to me how in the past, there are those who have scoffingly pointed at the few parts in a SET amp as a sure sign of weakness and poor performance - Here's one I forgot to show of the parallel feed monoblocks just sold. Just a couple of parts.
steamer
LOL, and there lies the MAGIC!!!....less is MORE!!! Greg
Erik Mandaville
Greg: Truly! I took this picture tonight, after checking things over one more time before I will pack them up over the next couple of days. I found two extra pair of new 5687s, so that's kind of neat, too. It's among the best input/drivers I've used, but has given me some ideas as far as paralleling both sections of both 6SN7s in the Moondogs -- for something I've been thinking about. NOSValves
Its still a handful of parts it just looks like allot since it utilized so many chokes and filament transformers in a small chassis IMHO. Craig

Erik Erik, It would be interesting to hear the idea when you get it figured out. Greg
Wardsweb
Doesn't take much for sure. Here is a stereo 2A3 SET I built from scratch a few years ago.
Wardsweb
And the power supply to run it.

Wardsweb
Now take that linestage to it's very minimum and you get this:
Wardsweb
Erik I'm having a Lone Star Bottleheads meeting at my house on May 20th. It would be great if you could make it over to San Antonio for it. If not, we have them in Houston a few times a year too.
DizRotus
Very nice work. And close to the "straight wire with gain" holy grail. Pictures of the outsides would be great also.

Erik Mandaville
Hey, Luther: The Foreplay! Very familiar with that one, too. I built so many different versions of that little amp, but went the all metal chassis, and DC heater supply route for quieter performance and better shielding. Beautiful work, as always on the amps. I also used to insulate all cap and resistor leads with teflon, but after peering into giant radios from Hallicrafters, Hammarlund, etc., I was amazed at such outstanding skill and build quality without spaghetti on resistor and cap leads (which I made a practice myself) Your stuff looks wonderful, though, so please don't misunderstand that! It's just become a personal preference and style. Radios have started to really fascinate me, and I've got some short wave designs here that I'm interested in building. I'll think about that Bottlhead meeting, as well. Thanks very much for the invitation! Erik
Erik Mandaville
Jim: No doubt! Wardsweb does some of the best looking DIY work out there! Erik
Erik Mandaville
Few parts, still, but single-ended nevertheless. Hardly any tubes, either.... only 10 for this one, 20 if used as a pair of monoblocks Erik
