Heresy I's or II's ? (Heresys in the house ...finally!)

I just bought these babies this AM for $400. Any info about these speakers you could give me would be greatly appreciated! I'd really like to know when they were made.

The tag has a copyright date of 1895 in the lower left hand corner. Is this an indication of the speakers manufacture date? Did Klipsch stop putting "heresy" on the tags after a certain year?

Thanks guys

Assuming the pictures that follow the one you posted the link to are of your speakers, you apparently have Heresy IIs. Klipsch tech support ought to be able to fill in the date.

FWIW, if I remember correctly, the early Heresy IIs, 1986 or so, with the round connector plate, said Heresy II on the label. I think I have seen later Heresy IIs, with the rectangular connector plate, where the model was not on the label, but on the connector plate.

Enjoy your new toys! Let us know how they sound with your other gear.

BigBusa,

What's a bit confusing to me is that Copyright Dates usually preceed date of manufacturer. So here's the date scheme that Matt Whatley posted some time ago. Take a look at it and see if makes more sense to you in this case than it does to me.

1962-1983 ##letter#### (20Y1234)

1984-1989(?) YY WW #### (89281234)

1990-1997(?) DOY Y2Y1 #### (135791234)

1998-2000 YY WW #### (00281234)

Regardless, you've got a great buy.

Thanks guys ...Yeah, That's weird about the 1985 date on the tag. The speakers do have rectangular connector plates and malcom, you're right they do say heresy there instead of on the tag. http://members.aol.com/be421/klip2.jpg

I like em so far.

That last photo clears up everything. Copyright 1985!Wink.gif You definately have 1990 Heresy II's. The model designation was placed on the outside of network inserts beginning the later part of the 80's, about the time of change over from Heresy I's to II's. I have a pair of 1984 Walnut Lacquer Heresy I's and they have the model designation on the tag.

Great find & excellent price.

Wow, Thanks. It's always a good feeling to know I got a decent speaker at a good price. I played with them some today. Switching back and forth between my 1980 cornwalls and the 1990 heresys. There is a big difference. The cornwalls sound more open, less constricted and downright louder at the same volume setting. The heresys are still damn fine sounding. The bass is pretty good for a speaker of this size. It's not going to rattle my innards like the mighty cornwalls but they will piss off the neighbors in a hurry! If I didn't have the cornwalls first I could be very happy with these as my mains and some quintets or something similar as my rears.

A portion of the difference you hear is the tembre match between the Cornwall I's and Heresy II's. Heresy I's would provide a better match. But I wouldn't rush to get rid of them, perhaps in the future you might make another great find on Heresy I's. Then you'll have many options as to what to do with the II's. If you're having fun and enjoying them, that's the added plus to ownership.

Enjoy,

Wes

So Wes ...If the connector plate has a date on it of 1986 and the paper tag on the back of the speaker has a copyright date of 1985 ...my speakers are what year again? 1990?

Don,

The significance of the dates you mention is that they provide a reference point that your speakers were made after those dates. Applying the coding sequence that Matt identified, they should be 1990.

Your Part Number: 09 0003 3112

Digit Position - 12 3456 78910

1984-1989(?) YY WW #### (89281234)

Digit Position - 12 34 5678

1990-1997(?) DOY Y2Y1 #### (135791234)

Digit Position - 123 4 5 6789

The question marks that follow the dates above serve to indicate that there are some deviations as to how the sequence is interpreted for some assigned part numbers. So as you can see you don't have 84-89's because first two digits are "09 ". Your 4th/5th positions are 00, so I doubted that they were year 2000 models, not with the older tag dates. But your 1st/2nd positions are reversed as in the Y2Y1 positions for 1990-1997 models. So I surmised that they assigned your part numbers arranged in the 1984-1989 scheme with the dates reversed in the 1st/2nd position as done for the 1990-97 sequence. Thus 09="90" for 1990 year production.

Now if you're thoroughly confused, please take two aspirins and enjoy those Heresy II's.cwm15.gif
