BS Button
What are the differences between the ALK and the ALK Jr.? BS
Deang
1) The ALK is 1st order, 2nd order, 3rd order. The ALKJr is 1st order, 1st order, 3rd order. 2) The ALK uses a straight up 3rd order Butterworth alignment for the tweeter. The ALKJr is similar, but the values are adjusted to get a better impedance match with its 1st order squawker section. 3) The ALK presents a near flat 8 ohm impedance to the amplifier. The ALKJr moves around a little: 6 to 14 ohms. 4) The ALK uses better caps: Sonicaps at the primary position and Hovlands in the tweeter section. The ALKJr uses a Dayton Audio at the primary position and Kimbers in the tweeter section. I will upgrade the caps if the customer asks. 5) Sonically, the ALKJr has a midrange character similar to the Klipsch networks, but cleaner. In comparison, the ALK is more laid back through the middle. 6) A pair of ALKs are $565.00. A pair of ALKJrs are $375.
