Allan Songer
What's up with the glass platter? Never seen that on a TD-124. Then again, I ditched my rubber mat for a Ringmat several years ago . . .
thebes
It ain't about the money. Be happy to. Here's what we will do. Gilbert sends me the box when he finds one. I make both covers at the same time. Send one back to Gilbert. He sends me the box back. I fill it with yours and send it on to you. You give Gilbert a few bucks for shipping. Ta Da! The glass platter is supposedly to combat the magnet in the moving coil cartridges. Will take some good pics when I get the TT in the next couple of weeks. Mike Lindsey
Sounds good, Thebes... I don't have a problem with that. Let me know how you would like me to proceed. I should have the measurements by the morning. I think it would be a crime if you don't at least take the money for the materials! Parrot
What's up with the glass platter? Never seen that on a TD-124. To expand on what Mike posted: Seller said The Thorens TD-124 MKI with the cast iron platter is said to be superior sonically to the lighter aluminum platter which replaced it in the MKII. The only problem with the iron platter is that without a glass platter or other device to raise the LP from the platter, MCs cannot work on it. Fantastic looking plinth there, Mike. Klipschfoot
My TD125 Mk II has an Audioquest Sorbothane mat. The Needle Doctor recommends (prescribes?) it. http://www.needledoctor.com/s.nl/sc.2/category.420/it.A/id.50/.f

I know many TD124 Mk 1 owners and ALL of them run MC cartridges with no problem (Denons and SPUs for the most part).

Hi Allan, Are they using something else to raise the LP from the platter? Or is that not important? You gotta admit though, it does look pretty cool. Mike Lindsey
Thebes, The plinth is 16.25" by 20.25". These were measured by the seller. Again, let me know how you would like me to proceed with this, and I will forever be in your debt. [] BTW, I would be happt to send Gilbert some money for the shipping of the box. Gilbert - I apologize for the minor hijack to this thread. Can't wait until you get yours up and running, and get your thoughts on it. thebes
Mike, you would be do best to await it's arrival before you start worrying about dimensions. You want to set it see what clearance you have to the sides and top etc. in your own setup. Also there's nothing to prevent you from tracking down a box either and if you can come up with one first it can then go to Gilbert. Review the requirements I've already stated for what has to be done to ship these things safely.
Mike Lindsey
Will do! Thanks! I should be getting it around June 7th or 8th, and will forward you the information at that time, and may forward you the same box it is packed in for the cover.
