DrWho
Just thought I'd post some pics of my new pad. Pardon the quality of the pictures as the only form of picture taking I have is my camera phone.
DrWho
This next picture shows the "sub corner" where my custom 9.888 cubic foot cabinet with a JBL2226H driver tuned to 19Hz and one of the Marantz 940's is shown. Above the JBL is a shelf upon which a snake cage is sitting - gotta love the skull [] (it's my cousin's snake). I didn't take a picture, but there is an identical Marantz positioned on the other side as well. The signal path for the subwoofer is as follows: Computer, to multi-channel analog inputs to the Sherwood reciever - using a 38Hz crossover point. From there the subwoofer signal comes out of the subwoofer preout and into an 8channel microphone mixer that is being used to boost the signal level so that it can saturate the inputs on the Crown XLS 402 pro amp (~1000W bridged). It also makes for a handy volume knob so that I can adjust for different recordings.
DrWho
And finally we have my computer setup. I tried to show the amp in the bottom left which will eventually be moving to the closet in the hallway (needs some tools for that job). Above the monitor is the mic mixer and to the right of the monitor is the receiver. I've also got a microphone stand with my headphones hanging on it. The mix gets plugged into the mix mixer as well and can be used for karoake because the marantz 940's are actually 4-way normal floorstanding mains that I'm just using as subs because they're insanely cool like that. I also have a fancy switching mechanism where I can instead turn off the subwoofer and reroute the signal into the microphone input on the sound card which allows me to do recording and measurement crap. The only downside is the mixer is a piece of crap with lots of noise and distortion. I hope to replace it someday with a real mixer.
DrWho
And then the next project is to mount a heresy in each corner in the back of the room - similar to what I saw malotky do at his place. Hopefully I will be bringing the wood back down with me this weekend. And if you looked closely you would have seen a dinky SC-1 center channel at the front of the room below the TV. Normally I would have put it above the TV, but the back slopes in such a way that it is not a stable position. I will also be purchasing wood and taking advantage of a hole in the back of the TV to work as a suitable mount for a speaker. It would be so nice to have a 'real' center channel for a change. DrWho
Btw, the walls are all white...dunno what is up with my camera phone making everything look yellow - must be the light and the auto gray correction crap they do to make things the correct "brightness". DrWho
Last one...picture of the other rear corner to show how the room opens up into the kitchen and dining area. Aw look at that...you can see the chair I pulled out to take the overall room shot.

HA , good of someone else to notice, y'know that ugly Herculon fabric chair that Frazier's dad uses on the show? THis one is just about as ugly. Kinda a La-Z-Boy with the tilt/rock mechanism chopped off, a Lo-LaZ-Rider. But Doc seems to like it.... M[]
DrWho
Dude, the chair fricken rocks...I've had to fight to keep it many a time too (as my dad keeps trying to throw it away). It's the most comfortable listening chair in the world and gets your head down low into the better sweet spot and the high back keeps all the rear crap away from your ears. Nevertheless, the desk is of normal height, but it's not a big deal to pull the keyboard/mouse tray out and set it on the arm rests.
bdbaba
Congrats Doc! May your speakers always sound better each time you listen, and may the sweet sound of your system attract a bevy of beautiful babes to your door. Er...I mean...to listen to the music of course...a yeah--that's it! Enjoy! Jeff

Increase your chances by washing the sheets at least once a week.
