thebes
Saw this Heathkit with bidding ending in five hours: http://cgi.ebay.com/Heathkit-SP-2A-Tube-Preamp_W0QQitemZ9728982824QQcategoryZ67807QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem What is a dual mono pre-amp? Does this has some sort of sonic advantage over a regular stereo pre-amp or is this just for running two mono amplifiers. Was wondering if this would be something fun to use with two monoblocks. scott0527
Yes, you could use that for stereo. Heathkit describes it as a Monural - Stereo preamplifier. I don't believe there is any sonic advantage. It was introduced in the days when Stereo was still very new.
thebes
Thanks Scott. Any feeling for the quality of the sound?
scott0527
Whoa sorry Thebes, I lost track of this post. I'd say it's a good thing you didn't win it. I had a couple of mono Heathkit preamps of the same era and they never sounded very good. Even after replacing caps, cleaning etc.
Colin
Well, dual mono in a power amplifier means that two mono amplifiers are sharing the same chassis to provide a stereo signal, so in a pre-amplifier, I guess it would mean the same thing<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
EVGuy
I use a Mitsubishi system from the late 70's that is a Dual Monaural Amp and Pre-Amp. As Stated in the last post, it's two separate mono pre-amps sharing a chasis. Here's the specs on it.

mike stehr
Meet the Aikido's. One of these days I'll put that crap on a single chassis with a better PS........ A local friend has the Mitsubishi (DA-10?) with the same pre-amp. It's nice. Gobs of power.
