thebes
Time IS elastic. Somedays I come home and I'm in the here-and-now, somedays I'm slippin-and-sliding down the backstreets of times past, sometimes I'm on-the-cusp-of what will be. Since time IS elastic, I guess at all times I'm in the moment, and tonight it's 1970, got a year of college left, schools out and I'm hitting the road before the summer job starts. It's a beat-up old VW bus (what else) no disco shag rugs, no don't-come-a-knocking sex-mobile here, but it's got a good 8 track, a bunch of speakers and an ever changing collection of long-haired, hippy-dippy- laughing-smiling freaks grabbing a moment in the present on whatever the future may bring. There's beauties with flowers-in-their-hair, stoners-and-loners, a rasta-or-two, young soldier-on-leave, working-stiffs and searchers-loooking-for-their-place. We're all travelling down the road on the Magic Bus and you know the music is good. Me I may stop off in the country, start a commune, as Johhny Winter says "lookin for good land with strong hearts and soft hands". Might go fishing, might hit San Francsico, the summer is young and possiblities abound. Anybody else for the Magic Bus, stick your thumb out and see if it stops. Better bring some music, though. Since time IS elastic, The Twins are here and they are working on their macromay.
lwhaples
Shoot, 1970 would put me in grade school. And wouldn't know about hitch hiking. Sounds like a fun ride though![] Larry
jheis
1970 puts me in the Air Force in Germany at Ramstein AB. The VW bus is a '65 Volvo 122S. A long weekend & I was in Spain. I think that was the year I made Sgt. - Twice! (if you look up insuborination in the dictionary, you'll still see a picture of me). 3dzapper
1970, the year this wise a$$ Sgt got his butt out of the Air Force listening to Hendrix and Zepplin. I'll never forget the cold night about a dozen of us were sitting in Jamie's VW bus when the local patrolman showed up. I wasn't really that hungry.[6] He slid open the van door and asked "What are you burning in there?" In about unison, we yelled back "Sterno Artie!". "Well OK" he said. We laughed for hours. It would have been more fun with twins. Rick
homemadeheresy
Have any pictures of the LOVE BUS:) Sounds like a good time. Guess we missed Woodstock
oldbuckster
1970, a tour of duty in Southeast Asia, met a few new friends, Jethro Tull, Jefferson Airplane, and a Band of Gypsies to help ease my fears. Woodstock wasn't a beginning, it was the END of the Summer of Love!!!!
pmsummer
This seems to bring back memories, but I can't be sure. The Airplane, the Elevators, the Dead, Beefheart, Fairport, Little Feat, watching the Summer of Love crash and burn as it shifted to coke and meth... ...and a war. But what a long strange trip it's been. By the Grace of God I survived it (and that's the only reason I can think of), with some good memories to balance it. thebes
In '68 and '69 we used my friend's van and one thing was always certain. At some point during any of our trips John Mayall's "Room to Move" would end up playing. It was like a rite, a ritual. We couldn't climb out of that van without hearing that song at least once. Anybody else want to climb aboard? Remember, time IS elastic, so your not stuck in 1970 if you don't want to be.
colterphoto1
Couple friends were over last night and I entertained them with a mix CD of remastered Steppenwolf tunes. I really dug Goldy McJohn and that Hammond B3 organ- wicked! Michael

dwt
In 1970 my sister came home from college and introduced us all to this guy she married. They are still married. My future brother in law was very patient and took me with him to look at audio gear - I was eleven - but shopping for gear was so cool. He taught me things like "watts per channel" and "RMS" and "total harmonic distortion" as well as two way and three way speakers. Couple years later they are married. I go to their house and he lets me play his hi fi stereo as loud as I wanted. It was a top of the line Marantz receiver with a Thorens turntable and two of the best speakers I had ever heard - Heresys. He still has those and they still sound great.
