kingnothing
I watched Jesus Christ Superstar tonight for the first time in over 30 years. I have only seen it once before on a grade school field trip. Every song is sung with such incredible energy and intensity. All the dancers/singers male and female are stunningly beautiful and poured everything they had into it. The film is by Norman Jewison with Andrew Lloyd Webber on the music. It is filmed in it's entirety in the Israel Desert. Basiclly, the move is about the last week or so in the life of Jesus told through the eyes of Judas. Sort of like Mad Max's Passion but more powerful and without the blood. I am not a holy roller, but as a child this film hit me more spiritually than all the sermons put together during my 8 years at St. Bens Grade School. toddvj
What a coincidence. I was watching Meet the Parents last night, and there is a part where Gaylord Focker is asked to say grace. He quotes the lyrics from Day by Day, which Is actually from Godspell, but somewhat similar.
DRBILL
"He quotes the lyrics from Day by Day, which Is actually from Godspell, but somewhat similar." Actually, it is from the 1940 Hymnal of the Episcopal Church, copyright 1943 by the Church Pension Fund. Melody: Arthur H. Biggs (d.1941), lyrics by St. Richard of Chichester (1197-1253). kingnothing
I'm not sure how many movie's were made from a rock album but being a music lover, it just makes Superstar even more special. There are so many powerful songs here, but Yvonne Elliman (mary magdalene) singing "I don't know how to love him" will leave you breathless. "I don't know how to love him" is beautifully shot at night in an all natural setting. Ps - I also saw Godspell on a school field trip and thought it was a joke !!! SteelerFan
I went to a Clapton concert with a buddy in Lakeland way back in the late 70's and when I told him that one of Clapton's back up singers was on the Jesus Christ Superstar album he didn't believe me. oldtimer
Saw JCS on stage in London in 1978 as part of a senior trip. It was a real highlight for me. They used wireless mikes on a minimalist stage.
