Moderators Travis In Austin Posted July 16, 2006 Moderators Share Posted July 16, 2006 Within the last month or so there were a couple of forum members who had recently purchased stylus force gauges. One was purchased from the far east and there was about a $100.00 price difference between the two. I don't recall seeing what the final opinion on these gauges was, and I am in the process of purchasing one. I tried to do a search but had limited results. So if anyone has suggestions on which gauge to purchase I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance, Travis
jazman
Allan Songer purchased a digital gauge from the far east and commented that he thought is was worth the money and accurate. Klipsch out.

Moderators Travis In Austin Posted July 16, 2006 Author Moderators Share Posted July 16, 2006 Thanks for the info. Mike, that was the one I was thinking of. How long is it supposed to take after the order is placed. I say this one on audiogon, there probably is not too much difference between the two, except it might have quicker shipping. Mike Lindsey
It's been about 4 weeks. Allan said his took 5 weeks. The guy told me any day now... [] Mike
colterphoto1
Go to your local head shop and buy a small digital (jewelers) scale. They are about $25. No shipping. Will weigh whatever you want down to like hundredths of a gram. That should do it.
Mike Lindsey
Michael, What you need to be careful of is the scale needs to be non-magnetic for those moving-coil cartridges. If it's non-magnetic then $25 is a real good price. Mike
3dzapper
Actually CP1 there is a height problem that would be created with one of those. I have one I bought for $10. I use the old standby balance beam type stylus force gauge. They go for about $25 batteries not included.[] Rick
Kudret
Mike, Did you receive it yet? I am planning to order one and would like to know how long it will take to receive it. Kudret
Moderators Travis In Austin Posted July 29, 2006 Author Moderators Share Posted July 29, 2006 Mike, I am curious about that myself, did it arrive, what do you think? Has anyone purchased one of these? http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?anlgcart&1158276358 They are $90 on audiogon, made in USA. Travis The scale you're considering is a modified Micro-Tech 120 scale, http://www.digitalscales.net/micro-tech-120.html formerly sold by Expressimo Audio. Expressimo I assume is only doing turntables now, but they used to sell The Heavy Weight dropped counterweight for Rega tonearms along with their digital "stylus force gauge". It can also be found stocked as the Micro-Tech XMT300 http://www.amazingscales.com/microtech_scales.asp Glue on a lightweight plastic L bracket and you're good to go, that is, if that's the scale you want. Yeah, I received it and it took almost 5 weeks. After setting up my DL-103 using the Shure gauge and trying to set it to 2.5g, I hooked up the new digital. Took all of 3 seconds and it came in at 2.51g. Nice job if I do say so myself. [] A lot to be said for the Shure gauge, but it's just too fincky for me.
