Fretmaster
Would that receiver, at 120 watts per channel, properly drive those speakers, or would they be damaged by underpowering?
oldenough
Hi Fretmaster, 120 wpc should be ample power for the RF83'3 given their efficiency, of course more can sometimes be better. Generally speaking H/K are conservative about their ratings so i do'nt believe you have cause for concern. IMHO FWIW Harman Kardon amplifiers are a good match to klipsch speakers you'll not be dissapointed. I'm sure others will give their opinions so hang in here. By the way Welcome to the Forum...John
Arky
I agree with oldenough. I used an H/K 7200 with rf-7's for awhile & liked the match.
arfandbark
I've found the 3480 to be weak regarding bass. I have one. Plenty of high end. I was using Cornwall 1s. It may be a good match for less efficient speakers. I dunno.
Arky
I may have been premature in my assessment having never heard the 3480, that's why I tried to include my H/K model #. The 7200 was the flagship when new.
Fish
I had a pair of 83's,I hooked em' to my Rotel and my HK 635 for a little while. The 635 had plenty of power to spare(75w per ch) to drive the 83's to 110 db crystal clear from 15ft in a 375 sq ft room. Fretmaster
Thanks for the info and the greeting. I wasn't so worried about the ability of 120w to make enough noise, I was just double checking to make sure I wouldn't need to add in an addition power amp to avoid underpowering some rather large units, the RMS given on the site is only a max, not a range. But anyway, it seems that isn't a problem. Also about the weak bass comment, I assume that is in regard to just the stereo speakers right, not including the sub out? I do plan on adding a sub as well, most likely an RT-12d.

I'm not knocking the 3480. I like the unit. Adding a sub to it is exactly what it needs. I'd bet it would perform very well with that addition. jmorgan32
I am driving my 83's with a McIntosh 6300 integrated that only has 100w per. It has PLENTY of power.
