USparc
Well, a system can be called a "home theater" when it is capable to give a picture larger than 36" and can reproduce the sound via at least 5 speakers at the right position. Like JTS8 said: what you are getting in december is certainly qualified as a "home theater". ------------------ ------------------------- Receiver: Onkyo 676 DVD: Pioneer DV-525 Screen: Thomson 46" RetroProjection Front: RF-3 tFTP Rear: RF-3 tFTP Center: RC-3 tFTP
Colin
TV or video or DVD played through the stereo system with a sub-woofer comes close enough for me - yours is the ideal set-up; multiple channels, large screen and free popcorn for guests ... ------------------ Cornwalls & Klipsch subs; leather couch & feet up; lights out & tubes glowing! TheEAR
My definition of Home Theater... System that can play both image and sound(sourround) to make me forget reality and escape in the movie being played. And that is where my HT systems take me. To me the display does not have to be 36",quality has to remain and sound has to be real, dynamic, detailed and spatial information recreated. USparc
It is not the quality that count's with the description of a home theater. The quality and how it sounds is another issue. Well I gave the description of a home theater from an architectural point of view. The 36" I mentioned is a relative measurement. It depends how far you are seated, but a large picture is needed to capture all the details in the movie. And also a big sound can't be without a big pictures. From a performance point of view it would require a more detailed description. Maybe THX can fill this in. But in the end it has to be as TheEAR describes it. ------------------ ------------------------- Receiver: Onkyo 676 DVD: Pioneer DV-525 Screen: Thomson 46" RetroProjection Front: RF-3 tFTP Rear: RF-3 tFTP Center: RC-3 tFTP
matthew2
Big sound does not need to come with big picture. I had a mini system in my bedroom that really shook things up. And until now, I had a 12' Black and white TV.I would never go back to that, but the sound makes a hudge diffrence to me at the time anyways. You cant miss something you never had..Unless you pawn your stuff lots. ------------------ Matthew
myram
To me...a home theater is a setup that can recreate the movie as it was meant to be seen as if in a theater. That being said, the aspect ratio should be preserved, the sound should move you as well as wow you, and the video should be as good as the original. That is what we strive for isn't it? I feel that I am as close to that description as I can get with my current set-up. ------------------ Home Theater Page
