Islander
(Nice to see your current layout Pat! ) Thanks, Peter, but that photo is months old. You certainly were right about moving the speakers further apart. It really opened up the soundstage and actually added detail to the sound. However, just last week, I moved them even further apart, to 12 feet center-to-center (with a listening distance of 13 feet) and noticed even more improvement in imaging and detail. As well, I added the high-power Yamaha amp in May and and replaced the Paradigm center with a Heresy II two weeks ago. That made everything really click. I put the electronics in a new stand yesterday, from Skylan in Calgary (http://www.skylanstands.com/racks.htm) and the room looks less cluttered (or more organized) now. I'll post a picture soon. psg
Sounds great Pat! Good for you. The speakers disappear from the room now?
IndyKlipschFan
I have my Scala's ina room that is 17 feet wide. Toed in to the listeners chairs center of the HT about 16 feet back. (I can get exact measurements later if someone likes...LOL) I can play some cd's in stereo and you SWEAR the center channel of my HT is on witht he singer dead center and perfect stereo separation of the remaining instruments as if they were in front of you too. You walk up to the middle speaker close to it.. OK, it is not... sit back down and WOW it has to be on!!! It's that good with the propper recording. Once you experience that in a system, your sold! Ray_pierrewit
Congratulations, I've got a pair of those puppies too. What I read here on the forum years ago is worth a try. Roll a towel around a scrap of 2 x 4 the width of each LaScala and put it under the front to just aim the cabinets up a little. This helps eliminate the standing waves with the floor and aims up the tweeters a little more to ear level rather than the navel. I remember reading a while ago that speakers need to be as perfectly level as possible for the best preformance, something about the drivers reacting quicker or better or something. Does anyone care to comment?
Islander
Sounds great Pat! Good for you. The speakers disappear from the room now? About as well as two black boxes the size of washing machines can. [] Seriously, though, with most recordings they definitely do disappear. I'm still impressed with the way some of the performers can appear at various heights, sometimes at double the height of the speakers, which is a pretty good trick of audioacoustic engineering, if you ask me.
