I was chilling by myself at my local Home Depot and went to the wire department (that HUGE revolving wire dispenser) and asked if they had any Monster Cable. I had seen the 12 Gauge, Original Monster Cable there before for; get this, 40 cents a foot! Anyway, the guy told me no, and that to comply with corporate policy (or something), they had to stop selling it because it wasnt UL approved. Now, I couldnt care less if it was or wasnt UL approved, but the guy said that Monster was told to spend the money to get UL listed, and said F**k off to Home Depot, Lowes, and some other retailers. Anyway, this isnt a ringing endorsement for Monster Cable, and I couldnt care less about UL approval, but I just thought I should share this story with you because you probably wont here this anywhere else. Also, does anyone know what sort of voltage and amperage runs through speaker cable? I think they were worried about people using Monster Cable for 110 volt; high amperage applications where a heat-to-fire problem might occur or maybe the insulation on the cable was not good enough for home use. Ray Garrison Posted January 3, 2002 Share Posted January 3, 2002 If you connect your Monster cable between a Boulder 2050 amplifier and a Thiel CS6.x speaker and try to crank the heck out of it, you might be pushing 2,000 watts on peak into 3.5 ohms or so. That equates to about 84 volts and 24 amps. I suppose there are combinations that would result in more amps or volts in the cable, but they'd tend to be a bit on the esoteric side, I would think. If you try this at home, be sure not to touch the red and black binding posts at the same time. This is kinda of topic but sort on topic... i am wall mounting my ProMedia 5.1's, same mounts as Quintets (using not the WB-1 but an Omni mount that has a ball-in-socket joint) for my personal home theater (I am 17 so it is small, a 47 inch HDTV and a Sony DVP NS-400D and the ProMedia 5.1's and occasionaly add in my 4.1's) I ran 14 guage wire, two lines to each outlet just in case i needed it for my 9.2 ProMedia setup (LoL), to the ceiling (still on the wall but like 8 inches from the ceiling), only place i was allowed to do it. I want to put in wall plates that have like banana clip inputs on the walls (otherwise i have to have a wire sticking out of the wall through the sheet rock ( ), so i would get a say 8 inch peice of 14 guage wire, put a banana clip on one and and the other end bare to go into the ProMedia speakers. Now here is the delima. All of the speaker plates for this kind of stuff i have found are full size like a wall plate. Has anyone seen one that is fairly small? Or is there anyway that i can make my own by buying the large wall plate ones and modding them? Raised and sold chickens, hey it paid! sold some in auctions at local fairs and got up to $2000 for three chickens A lawn service, did ppl's lawns, we lived out in the country so a lawn is like 5 acres A Tech help thing... $20-40 a job, normally the jobs lasted an hour, up to 4 a day! This was in high school when I lived in Bellville (the country), was even asked by the school board to be the official technical something or whatever... LoL! so i was accepted onto the school board as a technology officer worked for my dad's company, Scott Video productions Worked for The Thacker Group since i was VERY little, owned by my grandmother and my mom is slowly taking over... I save my money till i find something that i really want, invest in mutual funds and CD's. Trust me, when it isn't winter around here, I'm trimming around 260 acres of improved grass in a week, at the local AFB, for a contractor. With Military Q.A. BREATHING down your neck. Packin' a Shindiawa 270 string trimmer for 8hrs. It's nice to be outside, and excellent exercise. But you seem like a pretty sharp tack. Save your money and invest, like you said. If you work it right, you could be in a pad, paid for pretty quick. you better gather up a stereo before your folks give ya the boot, though. Did you figure out your wall plate dilemma? At the very very least, it's a lot more flexible, and heck it's only 3 cents a foot more. Using some gold plated Neutrik connectors from Parts Express, I can build a quality 2-meter component cable (using that MV2 cable) for less than $10 -- that same cable from Monster Cable costs $70 (see http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00003CWE6/ref=e_de_acc_2_1/ ). After that I sold clients where you call up say the national err... bell pepper commission and follow up on chef meetings asking questions, giving answers and basically selling another meeting to them. setting up media calls and media tours where like with Zespri Kiwi we got i think 18 VolksWagon bettles, the new ones, and got them painted lime green and then added teh Zpespri logoans and drove them all around america. i also got into pagemaker and started The Can-Do Chronicles.
