Deang
There is the old, original K-55-V which was used with the Type A, AA, B, B2, E, and E2 networks. The driver has spring loaded terminals and a single port phasing plug. In the late 70's, the K-55-V was redesigned with a two port phasing plug and soldered terminals. This driver only saw production and implementation for a short time. Both of the drivers were Altas PD-5VH. Alnico was getting expensive and companies were moving to ferrite magnets. PK wanted a ferrite version, and both Altas and Electrovoice got a shot at it. The ferrite version by Atlas is the K-51-V and the Electrovoice version is the K-55-M -- which is the driver Klipsch finally adopted for production through the 80's and 90's. The K-55-M was used with the Type AB, AB-2, AL, AL-2, AL-3, AK, AK-2, and AK-3 networks. In the late 90's, Electrovoice quit making the K-55-M (and K-77-M tweeter), leaving Klipsch without a vendor. Heritage production ceased for a while until new drivers could be sourced. Klipsch ended up going back with Altas, and began using the PD-5VH again, which is called the K-55-X -- and is virtually identical to the old, original K-55-V.
