Mudkicker
Hi Today a picked up a RPW 10 Subwoofer. I was wondering what would be the best setting for the XOVER. I can set it between 40Hz and 120Hz My Center is a KV2 and my Fronts are KG 2.5. Also, what does the toggle switch do exactly? Thanks for any help. nezff
try 80hz first then go to 120hz. I have my RW10d on 120hz. wow!
bigdaddy
I'd start at 80 hz and then go up and down and decide what sounds good in your setup. You'd have to be more specific about the toggle as I'm not familiar with your sub. My guess is it's a phase switch to change the phase from 0 to 180 degrees. Depending on the placement of your sub this can make a pretty big difference. If you happen to be at the right place you may not notice any change at all. If this is the case your sub is in the worst place in the room.
htxpert
If you are using an A/V receiver set the RW-10's variablex-over to 140Hz and use the x-over in the receiver to set LFE frequency. If you use both you run the risk of cascading crossovers which is not good atall. If I correctly remember the RW-10 has a continuously variable x-over thatwill take some time to dial in. Set it at the position that gives you the mostLFE output at your listening position starting with 0 and working your way upto 180 degrees out of phase. The toggle should be an On/Off/Auto On/Off switch.Subwoofer placement is critical for good LFE performance and room interaction. Generallycorner loading a subwoofer will increase in room LFE output, if you want smoothbass try placing it 1/3 in from a side wall. There are many other factors forsetting up a subwoofer try this tread for more info. http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/p/102270/1036706.aspx#1036706
Moderators Youthman Posted March 31, 2008 Moderators Share Posted March 31, 2008 I'm not sure 120hz is the best sub xover point. IMO, it allows for too much mid-bass. I want my subs picking up just the lows, letting my mains handle the mid-bass.
htxpert
If you set your HK receivers LFE x-over at 60 Hz speaker size small you willhave an effective x-over setting of 60Hz. Once again let the receiver set thex-over not the subwoofer. FYI for you speakers all should be set to small andan x-over setting of 60-80 Hz should be set in the receiver and the RW-10 setto maximum x-over. AaronM
Like htxpert said placement is important. This was helpful... http://www.audioholics.com/tweaks/speaker-setup-guidelines/crawling-for-bass-subwoofer-placement It is amazing how a room will have dead spots and IMO corners are a bit exaggerated and boomy.
