BenG Posted January 17, 2002 Posted January 17, 2002 Well, Im anxiously awaiting for the arrival of my Heresy II's. This is my first pair, and Im new to this forum. I have never heard the Heresy's, but I have a strong feeling they are what Im looking for. The order was placed 01-16-02, so Im looking at 4 weeks, according to the dealer. Has anyone heard the Heresy's with the Monarchy Audio SM70 amp before ? Your thoughts. ------------------ Monarchy Audio SM-70 Onkyo DV-S535 MSB Link III Parasound PLD 1100 KLIPSCH HERESY II AudioQuest Slate/Diamondback Quote
maxg Posted January 17, 2002 Posted January 17, 2002 I have Heresy 2's running with 2 amps (tube and a solid state amp). I think you are going to love them, however, you may want to consider a sub to get the most out of them. They are a little bass shy but for staging, clarity, vocals, volume and sheer presence they are right up there with the others in the Heritage range - especially with the aforementioned sub. ------------------ 2 * Heresy 2 (mains) 2 * Homemade horn speakers (rears) 1 * REL Strata 3 sub Accuphase E211 amp. Manuel Delaflor Posted January 17, 2002 Posted January 17, 2002 I totally agree. You will hear "the Heritage sound". For me, this speakers even have a better sound than the new Klipsch line just because one thing: the mid horn. Couple them with a subwoofer and you will be next to heaven. Quote
edster00 Posted January 17, 2002 Posted January 17, 2002 Ben welcome to Klipsch and the BB! I have used my SM-70 with Forte's, Cornwalls, Belle's and Khorns. I liked it so much I bought a 2nd SM-70 to monoblock them and run them in balanced mode on my Khorns. Now I suppose I am going to have to hook them up to my Heresy's to see how they sound together! My Heresy's are currently hooked up to a Sansui AU-717 amp and TU-717 tuner (I really like the sound I get with the Sansui but I don't need anywhere near that much power @85wpc). I am quite sure you will be very pleased with the SM-70 and Heresy combo. The SM-70 is probably my favorite low powered SS amp. I think it is a real giant killer at the price they go for. ------------------ Ed W This message has been edited by edster00 on 01-17-2002 at 10:57 AM Quote
BenG Posted January 17, 2002 Author Posted January 17, 2002 Thanks to all who responded. I stopped by the Klipsch dealer hear in Houston, TX. They allowed me to hook up my SM70 to the RF7's (thats the only speaker they had) they just became autorized Klipsch dealers so they too are awaiting the rest of the line. Back to the event the session was memorable! to say the least. -benny ------------------ Monarchy Audio SM-70 Onkyo DV-S535 MSB Link III Parasound PLD 1100 KLIPSCH HERESY II AudioQuest Slate/Diamondback Quote
mobile homeless Posted January 18, 2002 Posted January 18, 2002 So you bought some NEW Heresy II? Wondering why you didnt hop on ebay and try for some vintage 70s or earlier Heresy's which would probably be far cheaper and sound better to boot given the drivers and enclosure material....all without a wait. I personally thought my 77 Cornwalls were far superior to the 2001 RF-5. kh ------------------ Phono Linn LP-12 Vahalla / Linn Basic Plus / Sumiko Blue Point CD Player Rega Planet Preamp Cary Audio SLP-70 w/Phono Modified Amplifier Welborne Labs 2A3 Moondog Monoblocks Cable DIYCable Superlative / Twisted Cross Connect Speaker 1977 Klipsch Cornwall I w/Alnico & Type B Crossover system one online / alternate components / Asylum Listing f>s> Quote
BenG Posted January 18, 2002 Author Posted January 18, 2002 Dont tell me that! 1st - fear of purchasing a damaged/modified pair. 2nd - my thoughts were if they are new, they are superior. 3rd - I would be able to hold on for quite sometime and perhaps put them on e-bay (like 10yrs from now) BUT now, since you said "old ones sound better", Im at a loss of words. Having never heard either. ------------------ Monarchy Audio SM-70 Onkyo DV-S535 MSB Link III Parasound PLD 1100 KLIPSCH HERESY II AudioQuest Slate/Diamondback Quote

BenG Posted January 18, 2002 Author Posted January 18, 2002 Thank you. mine are Mahagony May i ask what (01-S) stands for? this is reffering to the Heresy II's Thoughts: My room is 15 x 25, carpet, and the speaker locations will be centered on the 25' wall. After they are in place, my listening position will be about 9' from the speakers. about 7' apart / 2' from the back wall / 7' from the sides. Do I need the slant risers? Is my question clear? thanks -benny ------------------ Monarchy Audio SM-70 Onkyo DV-S535 MSB Link III Parasound PLD 1100 KLIPSCH HERESY II AudioQuest Slate/Diamondback This message has been edited by BenG on 01-18-2002 at 04:32 AM Quote
Colin Posted January 18, 2002 Posted January 18, 2002 if you liked the sound of the RF7s, you will love the sound of the Heresy's, more of the same, IMO, how did the SM70s sound on the RF7s? ------------------ Colin's Music System Cornwall 1s & Klipsch subs; lights out & tubes glowing! Quote
BenG Posted January 18, 2002 Author Posted January 18, 2002 The pre amp was Audio Reserch SS. The source was Rega Jupiter, and my SM70. The sound I had at home utilizing the Paradigm Studio v.2 60's (now sold) was to me very detailed, precise, liquidy. But not until i heard the RF 7's, I realized that the studio's were thin sounding. The SM70 and the RF7's produced music so wide and with plenty of character. In a room full of other speakers, they just did everything right. The store had the RF7's hooked up to an Antique Sound Lab Int. 3.5 watts a channel. It was nice, But, the SM70 had more control of the low end, made me forget where i was at.(openess, huge soundstage, and a relaxing sound) I hope this gives you an idea of what my experience was. -benny ------------------ Monarchy Audio SM-70 Onkyo DV-S535 MSB Link III Parasound PLD 1100 KLIPSCH HERESY II AudioQuest Slate/Diamondback Quote
TBrennan Posted January 19, 2002 Posted January 19, 2002 Mobile---Actually the tweeter in the Heresy II has better performence than the old T-35 in the Heresey; flatter and more extended. It's not as efficient which was why it was used in the Heresey IIs, Fortes etc. but not in the all horn 3-ways. Quote
RobCurran Posted January 19, 2002 Posted January 19, 2002 My thoughts on Heresey IIs - !!! How about Heresey IIs for an entire music/HT system, a six speakers (L/R/Cx2/RS/LS) setup. Would need a killer sub though. I'd like to find a nice pair of Cornwall IIs (more bass and sound stage) when I get back to the states and use the Hereseys as surrounds. Now all I need to do is find a house without a damn fireplace taking up so much valuable wall space. ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 TV: 29" Sony Trinitron DVD: Toshiba SD9200 CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap) This message has been edited by Rob Curran on 01-19-2002 at 09:18 PM Quote
boomer9911 Posted January 20, 2002 Posted January 20, 2002 My Hersey II's are 2001(hence 01, Khorns - 1993 for fronts(93), LaScalas for RS 00, KLFC7's for centre and rear centre-01). Yes, I am lacking your ".1" ....still need a sub to meet the requirements of the Heritage line, more musical then dvd(but still kicks on a movie) for my choice. Big order to fill in my thoughts, the M&K sounded nice, yes, and I mean yes, Paradigm PWS1000, 1200, even 2200, leveled the KSW12/15. maxg Posted January 21, 2002 Posted January 21, 2002 Rob - if you want to look for a sub for the Heresy's I can recommend the Rel Strata 3 very highly. It is a sealed unit (similar sound to the Heresy) and with its 10 inch driver juwst as fast as the Heresy's bass. You can set it up so that the Heresy's simply appear to play all the way down to 20 Hz - certainly seemlessly enough for me not to be able to tell where the cross-over is. alternatively you can jack up the volume, lower the cross over to about 40 Hz and blow yourself up with movies (saving private ryan - opening 30 minutes is positively frightening!!) ------------------ 2 * Heresy 2 (mains) 2 * Homemade horn speakers (rears) 1 * REL Strata 3 sub Accuphase E211 amp. RobCurran Posted January 21, 2002 Posted January 21, 2002 Maxg, I like the idea of a sealed sub that is very taught, musical, and has good volume at 20hz. Subs I'm considering pairing up with my HIIs: - SVS 20-39PC (wish I could hear them in a store) - Sunfire MKII - RSW-12 - REL Strata III (recent addition) Quote
maxg Posted January 22, 2002 Posted January 22, 2002 I would limit yourself to one of 2 of the ones you have listed. The RSW is not getting very good reviews and the Sunfire is probably not in the same class as the SVS and the Rel. SVS has many fans on this site and seems to be very highly regarded indeed. As for the Rel - check out Consumer review asides from my own recommendation. People seem to love the Rel and there are several people there who claim to have switched to it from some fairly serious subs indeed - eg. Velodynes et al. ------------------ 2 * Heresy 2 (mains) 2 * Homemade horn speakers (rears) 1 * REL Strata 3 sub Accuphase E211 amp. Tube monoblocks with separate pre-amp (solid state).
