How does it sound for 2-channel audio (music). Thought I read somewhere that INTEGRA processors are NOT intended for good music quality. Rob

I’m going with the Blu Ray camp even with the escalation of price-cutting battles in the “format wars.” If HD DVD becomes the new HD standard, I’ll get a cheap Toshiba…I’ve narrowed field down to the Panasonic BD10A. It has the built-in decoders for the new DTS HD formats, although movies encoded with these new formats are very few. My thought is to by-pass the digital processor in my somewhat-dated Yamaha DSP-A1 integrated amp by using quality RCA cables. The Yamaha has a 5.1 analog-in for external decoders. As for video, I’ll use a HMDI cable directly from the Panasonic DVD Player to the back of my Hitachi 42” Plasma HDTV. I do have concerns with by-passing the Yamaha’s digital processor. I hope the DVD Player has some bass management, dynamic range settings, and I can adjust frequency roll offs for the speakers - probably not. So, thoughts and opinions – anyone bypassing their digital processor to experience HD A/V? Or is it time for a new A/V Receiver (or separate components:))?

damonrpayne - 1. Is there material recorded in a discrete 7.1 surround for home theater? 2. Wouldn’t you need a fairly large, and dedicated, home theater to hear the benefits? 3. For me, 5.1 is my standard until I win the "megabucks" and build a dedicated home theater that can seat 20 or so of my newfound friends.

I don’t believe the U.S. electronics’ market will ever see a standard, not with consumers striving for the next coolest advance in technology. I’m swearing off AV receivers and so-called future proof integrated amps. When my Yamie dies, I’m going with separate components like near-disposable AV pre-amp with all of tomorrow’s best technologies and an expensive HIGH-END solid state 5.1 channel amp for the long haul (20+ years). I think 5.1 DD is the long term standard for most home theaters.

The A30 does NOT have analog out in 5.1 surround. So much for my so-called future proof Yamie, which has 5.1 analog in for external decoding devices...

Virgin poster here I'm looking for A/V digital/analog connection recommendations... My Gear: * Yamaha DSP-A1 (great integrated amp but no DVI/HMDI. Digital decoding technology is dated (i.e. no NEO, TrueHD, etc). Still produces great sound!) * DirecTV H20 receiver. * Hitachi 42” Plasma TV (new last year. 1080i resolution max). * Toshiba SD9200 (Flagship DVD player in it's day). # Considering Toshiba HD-A30 (on sale at CC for $199!) For video, I currently use composite video cables from the source(s) to my HDTV. For audio, I use optical cables from source(s) to my AMP. If you had a Toshiba HD-A30, how would you hook it up using my gear? Would you use analog out (RCA) to enable the HD-A30 to do all to digital audio decoding? If so, would that cause the video and audio signals to be out-of-sync?

Finally upgrading the subwoofer! I wanted a sub that could produce powerful yet accurate low freqs during HT but would bend in nearly seamlessly with my bass-deficient Heresy IIs when listening to music. I listen to 70 percent music/30 percent HT and give a much more critical listen to music. The REL strata III is choice. Tanman, if you want to keep 5.1 channel HT, then why the 950? Price? For everyone else, why does a "good" pre/pros and "excellent" receiver cost about the same? You would like a pre/pre would be cheaper because they dont have an amplifier. But that's another tread

So guys, what's your recommendation for a AV pre/pro to be matched up with the Outlaw 755. Consider a 1,500 USDs budget when providing a recommendation. - Outlaw 950? - H/K? - Sunfire? - ???? I want analog by-pass for DVD-A and DPLII would be a fun. I've always been an intergrated amp/receiver guy so my knowledge is limited. I think having a great power amp and changing processors when new technology comes out just makes good sense (and good sense in this hobby is hard to find) All comments will be useful. Later! Has anyone else read about Outlaw's new amp, The 755 . Looks like another high quality and high value product from these cowboys. Any thoughts/comments??? They've updated their 5-channel amp but not their 5-channel pre/pro, still carry the 1050 receiver though. The 950, their new 7.1 channel pre/pro (7-channels?...don't need all that), looks good but I want to stay in the 5.1 realm. Any thoughts/comment about a good 5.1 pre/pro to be matched up with the 755. My pet peeve against Bose is the market saturation. My God, they must be making some serious bucks. The average shmuck gets brainwashed into thinking Bose is a really good speaker. That mostly what they see for speakers...THEY'RE EVERYWHERE! If you like get your butt kicked, try THIS. I'm having a hard time getting the wife to let me upgrade the sub. A bass shake would be out of the question, but I really wouldn't want a bass shaker to attached to one of my good sofas. Maybe its the color of the Denons. That smokey sort of bronze metal thing goin' on there. They remind me of a old JVC receiver I had years back... Go for yammie - better build, quality, and sound. A lot of Denon fans in here but at least they have good taste in speakers. The specs on the RX-V3200 look pretty impressive. I see that Yamaha has gone for more wats per channel and dropping the front effect channel. According to Dolby , the preferred placement is to the side of the listener, not the rear. But I've seen surround speaker placement to the rear from other sources, so who knows. And its built like a bricksh*t house.
