damonrpayne
My copy just arrived via Amazon.com; reserving judgement until I get it home to listen on my system. Anyone else have the CD yet?
wheelman
I'm waiting on the box set, and my digital download to complete very very slow with dial up. I got my code for it today via email from Warner Brothers pre ordered it months ago.

toddvj
Actually Lars says hes OK with people sharing via P2P, although I kinda doubt he's really OK with it. If you like the CD, go out and buy it.
damonrpayne
The songwriting is not bad, I'm liking track #4 especially. The recording sucks! The dynamic range is insanely compressed and it's 1 dimensional. The positioning is bizarre: the drums are way up near my ceiling and the vocals are down near the floor. At least there's no noise. Sounds OK in the car, sounds bad on a 2ch system.

Cornwalled
Damon, Thanks for the link. Given the trend with modern albums, I didn't have real high expectations, but to hear that it's this bad is surprising. Let's hope that this is the worst it gets. It's amazing to hear that Metallica truly just doesn't care anymore... Perhaps their last album? -Jon

wheelman
Yes I wish it was mixed better, but its' such a solid album it's not gonna keep me from enjoying it. I got the download from Warner I haven't heard my "physical" copy yet.
damonrpayne
Its keeping me from enjoying it. It will be played from my Zune in my car and that's it. The only thing I've bought in the past 5 years that sounds worse is that "Raising Sand" album.
wheelman
Have you listened to any Velvet Revolver albums? I got to say that band has the worst sounding albums I've ever heard on my stereo but I like the band. I love Clutch's first album but it's an ear bleeder. This album almost sounds like a live album I have been listening to it non stop because I like it, but now I'm trying to see what they were going for. Clean is as loud as heavy guitar quite possibly they were going for the loudest album ever not sure, but it isn't as harsh as any of my Velvet Revolver albums. I will say that. HatTrick66
Is the LP any better?
wheelman
Is the LP any better? I heard it wasn't I guess the kids are saying the video game guitar hero is the best version with more detail and dynamics ( less slam). If it were a "blues" album I would be way more concerned. I'm hooked I may need rehab on this one regardless of sound quality.
HatTrick66
I really like it so far, too. I got a free copy of the CD with the tickets I bought for one of the Allstate arena shows in January. I also get a free download of my show. It's the closest thing to pre-Black Album Metallica they have put out. I was hoping this would be a vinyl purchase for me but if it isn't any better than the CD I will spend my money elsewhere. Isn't it ironic that in their attempt to give us loudness, they take away our ability to TURN IT UP?!
