HOW TRUE IS THA ALL SPEAKERS ON A HOME THEATER SHOULD BE SET TO SMALL EVEN IF THEY ARE FLOORSTANDERS AND THE CROSSOVER SHOULD BE SET TO 80, SO THAT WAY THE SPEAKERS DONT GET OVERWHELMED WITH THE BASS WHEN PLAYING LAOUD?

ALSO, DOES ANYONE KNOWS WHAT IST THE PHASE O-180 SWITCH FOR ON THE SUBWOOFER? AND WHERE IT SHOULD BE SET 0 OR 180?

The setting for large or small is what sets the crossover for the speaker. I tend to run my floor standing speakers on large and run the sub with a 80 hz xover. I am using Fort'e speakers for the mains. YMMV. The 180 setting is to set the phase of the sub 180 degres out of or into phase with the other speakers. If they are not operating together, they are working against each other.

One more thing, on the net typing in all CAPS IS SHOUTING!! I AM SURE YOU ARE NOT SHOUTING AT US BUT PLEASE DON'T TYPE THAT WAY!!![;)]

arriagaricardo,

Phase is talking about electrical "Phase" in an Alternating Curent circuit. You may of heard of electricl 3-phase circuits for industrial use? Anyhow, 120 volt house current is single phase, it has a sign wave, the hot wire reverses direction back and forth, so there is both a positive and negative voltage peak and trough, this phase change takes place 60 times a second. Suffice it to say that any wires that are switched somewhere can put a subwoofer out of "Phase" with another subwoofer, or your other speakers. This can happen many ways, your Sub is usually plugged into a seperate recepticle from your surround amplifier. Didthe idiot who wired the house correctly put all hots on the short blade only (wires often get pig tailed, and other things happen where the hot and neutral could get things reversed. Did all the workers on all the cords not correctly wire the inside of a cable, inside the subwoofer, or wherever in one of the circuits?? Those chineese guys might not be doing the best possible job working on the line for 25 cents an hour. What it boils down to is that if the sub is out of phase with your other speakers, the woofer cone will be pulling in on the sub, when the other speakers are pushing out, and visa versa. This will reduce your db output or volume level. Switch the switch back and forth to see which way sounds louder, it will be subtle. If you have two subs, shut one off and do each sub independantly, one at a time to assure everything is in propper phase. Simple as that.
