  1. Good choice...Onkyo do give the best bang for the buck and this model will have plenty of power. Amazon is great, isn't it? I keep on buying from them because they give the best price (just bought some software and storage for my computer from them).
  2. Reasonble - yes, but not without it's problems. Many 240Hz TVs suffer from the "soap opera" look, where everything looks too "smooth" and motion is "flowing". The result is somewhat unnatural feel to the content. Often times one would need to disable the 240Hz mode or play with other settings to get rid of this effect. Film and properly processed digital content has grain and motion that is not perfectly smooth. I have a Sony TV and generally happy with it, but I do think that Samsung has an edge right now. I would personally go for a 2D, 55" at least, 120Hz at least internet enabled (netflix, pandora, etc), LED TV for around $1500. This seems to be the sweet spot right now.
  3. If money is no object, you have a discerning ear, space and desire to configure - pre/pro is the way to go. However for many setups it is either impractical or unjustified. My 90watt per channel Denon pushes RF-7s just fine for my taste. I've never maxed out on the volume or felt like i needed more power or cleaner output. Unless you have a trained ear and you adjust your space for sound (wall treatment, furniture, etc) I see very little reason to get more sophisticated than an AV receiver. Klipsch speakers are very efficient and don't need that much power to reeach desired volume levels. In fact, i was running a vitnage 35w amp with my RB-3s and it was plenty. I also used to have RF-62s, which were my first floor standing setup and they were also paired with Denon 1910 and sounded just fine. Changing to RF-7s changed the frequency output more than anything - i get a lot more base with them and can go without a subwoofer (for most material). I would opt for a good AV receiver and spend the rest on bigger TV [8-|]
  4. There was a discussion here on this topic and here is the link that was provided with overview of the receivers - LINK It comes down to Denon being more expensive and having fewer older connections. As far as sound - both are very similar. As the link says - Amazon is a great place to buy with their low prices, liberal return policy and good customer service. I run a previous Denon model - AVR-1910 with a pair of RF-7s, RC-7 and RSW-12 subwoofer (which is now for sale in garage sale section) and the sound is amazing. But I do like Pioneer a lot and used to have a THX receiver that sounded just splendid with RF-7s - very warm and pleasant sound.
  5. I have a few RF-7 woofers in great condition. New ones from Klipsch (if they have any) are $170 each. I'll sell two for that price of one. Let me know if you are interested
  6. I've sold some RB-5s for $200 a little while back. I wouldn't pay $380 And yes - you should look at RB-3s. I've had both at the same time and i liked the RB-3s more. For some odd reason their lows sounded better than the 5s with bigger woofer. Just felt more tight and controlled. I still have a pair of 3-s stashed in my garage in case i decide to add some music to one of the rooms. In fact, a pair of new RB-51 II is $400 for a pair http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882780057
  7. Cut drywall, route cables through the wall to TV, install a few wall plates for speakers connects and then run short patch cables to the speakers
  8. Not bad, but you need to tame the cable monster.
  9. Just to play the devil's advocate - While RC-52 is not an exact match to RF-62, it is very close. I've had RF-62s paired with different center channels and most of them can sound fine if you can adjust your settings. I would add a bit of "gain" on the front channel and make it slightly louder. I think your receiver may be holding your system back and something with Audesey2 MultiEQ speaker room calibration would really bring out the good sound.
  10. I used to run RF-62s with my denon, then moved to RF-7s and i just can't be happier with the sound. I do think that Pioneer sounds slightly warmer and seems to bring out more lows from my speakers (use an older Pioneer THX 110Watt receiver), but technology in Denon (Audesey 2MultiEQ, etc) is really hard to beat for the price.
  11. Not true. I run a previous model of the denon 1910 - so i know how it sounds. My friend just got a new 3D capable Yamaha and I've checked out the Pioneer with Onkyo. Pioneer is best overall, Denon is nice, but not cheap. Yamaha is middle of the road - does things well, but doesn't shine in any task. Onkyo has serious reliability problems.
  12. If you can swing it - get the new RF-7s. Sound is nothing short of amazing - best speaker's i've heard (and I've had reference, heritage, etc ) Dual 10" woofers will give you enough base even for movie explosions. I run a pair of RF-7s with RC-7 center and RSW-12 sub (the sub does the least of work as fronts have so much impact).
  13. Funny thing you've mentioned those...Here are some recommendations on which to get. I personally would get either Pioneer or Denon, depending on your existing gear and type of connections in use.
  14. This is not the first time I hear about the harshness of the RF-7s, yet I don't understand it. I have an unmodified pair and i can't think of it's sound as harsh by any means. I have also RF-62 and while they are good, they are not nearly as good as the RF-7s (i know there is a size difference, but still). What's there so magical about the RF-83/83 that makes them better than RF-7s?
  15. In all honesty - I've tried listening to Heritage line and it just wasn't for me. On the other hand I've got the RF-7s and they are the most wonderful speakers I've ever had. So it's not just the components that make a line better in asbolute, measurable terms, some people are more predisposed towards certain qualities of the sound.
  16. I have 5.2 from time to time........... 5 adults and 2 dogs...
  17. Yura

    SUBWOOFER

Not necessarily. Simons says maybe his receiver has 2 sub outs?
  18. I just watched it the other night and think the sound portion of the movie was rather medicore. It did have an excellent sound theme in the movie, but the sound effects overall were lacking. As much as I dislike cartoon/comics based movies - Transformers 2 had one of the best sound tracks of any movie released in past two years. Too bad the movie itself can't be taken seriously, which spoils the fun for me. I've got Aliens to watch tonight, i haven't seen it in about 7 years. Can't wait for the evening...
  19. That's overpriced for what you are getting. You can get a better system for that amount. There are deals around for klipsch home theater package (HD500 + Pioneer/Yamaha receiver) around $600. If you want better sound - Klipsch RF-62s (around $650) Klipsch RB-61 (around $450) Klipsch RC-62 (around $400) Klipsch Sub12 (around $300) Denon AVR-1911 (around $500) So for $2300 you get a real home theater that will give you excellent sound that will blow Quintets away. And those are mostly retail prices without any bargains or discounts, so you may be able to bring it down to less than $2,000 OR another way to go about this is to visit "Garage sales" section on this site and buy excellent speakers in mint condition for a fraction of the new ones. For example I'm selling RF-62s, RC-35, RC-7 others have other speakers that you can match together for an awesome theater that will play music and movies like you've never heard them before (at least at home).
  20. RF-83s are excellent speakers and will hold their own against many other great speakers. In general dealers steer people towards products that make them the most money. From personal experience i can tell you that Klipsch goes very well with Pioneer Elite receivers, but Emotivas are also decent units with a big following among many Klipsch owners. RC-64 is the center to have if you have the space - make sure it will fit in your cabinet/space as it is a very large center speaker. While i would recommend buying RF-83s, i would also suggest you look at a pair of RF-7s - they have 2 woofers of bigger size and sound amazing. Oh, and Jamo is made by Klipsch - it is one of the "other" brands that they own.
  21. Then we start talkingnot about "having too many subs" but "too much of a sub". After all, I personally don't have space for anything bigger than 1.5x1.5 feet. My current RSW-12 is too big for my living room.
  22. Denons have different modes for showing volume levels, there is a volume limiter and the speakers have individual level adjustments. So to tell you the truth - i think your AVR is not set up correctly. Unfortunately these machines are so damn complicated that i have very little desire read the manuals and trying combinations of all the possible settings. My advise is to visit Denon 790/1910 thread on AVS forum and ask your question there - a guy by the nickname of Batpig knows these machines by heart and can probably give you the answers. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1152799&page=245
  23. I'm not a big fan of subs in general - anything below $2000-3000 just sounds distorted/muddy or lacks punch. On the other hand a decent sub takes up too much space to keep it anywhere but a dedicated theater (somewhere behind walls/curtains). So before we start talking about number, the quality and size should be discussed. Then the size of the room comes in - in some you need more than 1 or 2 to get the proper volume and dynamics. In others a single 15"-18" will work.
  24. Very different speakers. I would either stay with vintage or go all Ultra THX. Heresy is an excellent music speaker, but i didn't like it for home theater. It sounded a bit weak and had a lot of high freq. If you want to mix - better get Reference and Ultras
  25. If you can find someone else with a bad set - maybe you can make a working one out of the two. On the other hand if you want to experiment - i have two 10" drivers from RF-7s. They are slighly more efficient and are obviously newer. Let me know if you want them.
