  1. I had the same issue with the tweeters on my RF-7s at first. Then I reduced the treble from max to about 12 o'clock or 50% whatever you call it and it is perfect. He prolly had the treble maxed like most people do with most speakers. No need for that with Klipsch however.
  2. http://www.av123.com/products_product.php?section=processors&product=13 Thoughts?
  3. I think he had a lemon or something. Harman is a very musical receiver and is also very warm and smooth with Klipsch.
  4. With Klipsch, Harman Kardon hands down~
  5. Cant you rotate the RC-7 horn by unscrewing the 8 screws, turn it once to make it the same as the RF-7s since the horn is perfectly square and that is taken care of? I thought it was easy to do, that the only negative of using the RC-7 as a tower is the bottom thing on one side where the feet and stuff go, other than that I thought I read that they would make awesome tower speakers. There was a thread on this a long time ago. m00n: Try to get the RB-75s in your home on your gear before deciding, we all know it is night and day to what you hear at a dealer. What did your dealer power them with, was it HK? Huge difference if it was another receiver, esp another brand, dont under estimate HK and the sound it has over the competition in its range. Listening to RB-75s at a dealer on a Denon or Yamaha or whatever will be way off when trying to compare RC-7s in your room with the HK 7200. Just my two cents~
  6. I will do that. I need to find another dealer by me, the one right down the street has the Dyna setup in an HT room and Rotel is the only option. Kind of stupid IMO. The only way to really know what you like better is to have a room setup for 2 channel with multiple brands and sizes and multiple powering options. For all the money these people put into this massive HT/Audio store they really dropped the ball IMO. This store in question caters to the ultra rich people of River Oaks in Houston so I guess they make their money on complete HT rooms because they make zero effort for two channel or speaker buyers period for that matter. Edit: What do you power your Dynas with? I saw on their site they recommend at least 80 watts for mid size rooms. At 86db do you have trouble really jamming out or do you have serious wattage pumping them?
  7. I was thinking the same thing you came up with m00n when I read your post. I would build a little shelf on the bottom of the frame in the wall and pull the RC-7 out further than your picture. That would solve your problem and look nice at the same time. You can build a case/shelf in the wall 6" deep easily and probably deeper than that. Have the RC-7 flush with the wall and the extra 6 or however many inches the in wall cabinet has for the port space should be perfect. The RC-7 is only 12" deep I think. That is not to far out if mounted flush with the wall IMO. Thats only 2 1/2 more inches out than the RS-7s were and you have your port space.
  8. I will do some more auditioning with the Dynaudio soon. When I had a chance to demo them a few weeks ago they were being powered by Rotel and the sound was good, just not awesome and that must have been do to the setup which seemed to be focused on HT and kind of half *** IMO. The guy kept having problems with the left speaker going out. I cant believe the sound I heard was accurate when so many informed people on this forum swear by them. Maybe the place is trying to push people towards B&W? The little Dynaudio room was nowhere even close to the HT rooms setup for the B&W speakers, plus the B&Ws were ran by McIntosh. They had two fully decked out HT rooms for the 800 series and the top of the line series B&W. Anyway not trying to dog your speakers at all. Just from what I heard with Rotel gear I couldnt justify the price difference between them and the RB-75s. I was offered a pair of new RB-75s for $800 and some change at my local dealer. We are talking about almost a $2,000 difference. Man, I could buy three RF-7s for that price. Whoa, that is pretty serious. Of course everyone has different wants and needs. I understand some people simply dont have that kind of room or dont want that kind of decor in their home. Anyway, congrats on the new speakers, wish I had that much to spend right now. I need a center, surrounds and a sub. On the sub issue I am torn between waiting for my house to build a killer IB sub in the attic, completing this Tempest or just buying a SVS until I can really work on a great DIY IB. So much to do and so little cash and time. I still need to upgrade my RF-7s, get a tube preamp and amp for two channel, and figure out what to do about powering my HT with either separates or a nice receiver my HK 325 was a great beginner piece but not enough power for what I want and need once I am done. Anyone filthy rich want to donate to the Vital HT Fund? Only kidding, I have come a long way in one year and all because of this forum. It will come together piece by piece.
  9. Those CF whatever look killer. How do they sound and why dont we hear much about them? They look fantastic. Do they sound as good as they look? I would think they can thump out some serious bass.
  10. What was the cost on the Dynaudio Contour S1.4 btw?
  11. I was not impressed with the Dynaudio at all a few weeks ago. In that price range I would take the B&W anyday. Myself I would take the RB-75s and extra cash though.
  12. I thought I read that to hit reference level bass you need to hit 121db at 20hz.
  13. "Thanks Moon! Did you decide if you are sticking with the RS-7s for the side surrounds? I just put my RB-35s up this past weekend." Awesome room, I cant wait to move into a house so I can start work on one myself. As for the RS-7s, I had a nice time listening to RB-75s and they are sweet. Might be what I go with once I move.
  14. You are correct about the powering source not being the same and maybe that was the problem. Is McIntosh quite a bit nicer than Rotel? The Dynaudio also has very small drivers though. Maybe with better gear they sound much better. I was really expecting to be blown away after hearing ThEar talk about his sounding better than his RF-7s. The 802s are awesome though. The guy told me people fly in from all around the state to audition B&W. I think he said George Lucas uses them in his mixing studio. We tried to audition the big boy B&Ws but the processor was doing something wierd to my MP3 cd. Whatever McIntosh gear he was using had like 3 settings, Music 1, Music 2 and Music 3 and it was adding a flange type of sound to it. I'll go back with a real cd next week to hear them. He said they rock the house. It was the B&W sig 800 I think that we were trying to audition. Now, if we only had a Klipsch dealer with Khorns to demo~
  15. Well, I spent about two hours last night in the Home Theater store here in Houston listening to the above two speaker systems. I must say Klipsch is simply amazing. First let me tell you that I was a little disappointed by the Dynaduio 3.4s that he quoted as $2,500 each I think. Of course that is highly negotiable but that is suggested retail price maybe? They were being powered by a Denon DVD 2200? and Rotel preamp and some type of really cool looking Rotel processor that showed the screen image on it's own little display on the face of it. The sound was nice, but not amazing by any means. My girl and I both thought our RF-7s sounded better with the song we used as a demo. (Celine Dion - Seduce Me - "crystal clear highs with nice bass")I can only imagine how our RF-7s would perform with DeanG's crossover upgrade and the same gear powering them. We are talking about a set of Klipsch RF-7s for $1,800 + $500 or so crossover upgrade vs. a $4,500-$5,000 dollar set and the RF-7s simply smoke them. I was very interested in hearing the Dynaudio after hearing TheEar go on about his. I simply did not hear what he hears. Now, on to the B&W 802s, now we are talking. These speakers were simply amazing. They were powered by an all McIntosh setup that looked hella expensive. The sound that came out of those speakers was awesome, but not by any means $3,000 or however much more than RF-7s. They were incredible, but I truly think that RF-7s with a simple $500 upgrade and powered by the same gear will be just as good if not better. The B&W has a much better presentation as far as build quality and the finish on the speakers but when we talk pure sound, the RF-7 & even a stock pair gives the B$W a run for the money IMHO. The point of all this? Klipsch is simply outstanding. Put a pair of brand new Khorns against the 802s and I doubt it's much of a contest and that is what Klipsch offers in that price bracket. To me clarity is one of the most important details in music or HT and what can possibly beat a crystal clear horn? Nothing is better than a females voice and nothing can produce that sound like a horn IMHO.
  16. "Have you tried both speakers in a side by side comparison? I am not doubting you, but I am curious to know why you differ?" How could you doubt me, it's my personal opinion. In a 2 channel shootout, the RF-7 would blow the Scala away in many HT and music situtations. As a matter of fact I think the RF-7 would win the majority of the time in a blind shoot-out. All modern movies would have the RF-7 wiping the floor with the Scalas. You would swear there was a sub in the room when the RF-7 was playing, it digs that deep. Want to play hip-hop, dance, trance or anything of the sort, the RF-7 again would be wiping the floor. Just like the Scala would kick butt with other types of music. So, that is why I beg to differ. It is a give and take and the RF-7 can most certainly look the Scala in the eye IMO.
  17. "Even the RF 7, the reference flagship, can't look the La Scala's in the eye. " I beg to differ~
  18. I have two of the Walmart a/v racks, they are awesome for $79.99 IMO. They are a perfect match for my black RF-7s and silver 65" Toshiba too. All the other a/v racks I found were $200.00 and over.
  19. How does this preamp - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14974&item=3051456025 - compare to say a fully upgraded Foreplay? http://www.bottlehead.com/et/adobespc/foreplay/foreplay_line_stage_kit.htm The Foreplay kit with all upgrades is $298.00 and the other is $299.00 now so they are the same price. The Foreplay needs to be put together but from everything I have read the instructions are detailed and can be easily done by anyone. Thoughts? We are talking about two different tubes so the sound should be pretty different. From what I have read a lot of people favor the 6sn7 over the 12au7. What is the better value here and what will sound better to "most" people on the forum? I know this 6sn7 got great reviews when you guys met a few months ago.
  20. Wow, thanks for that link to audioenvy.com. I found a guy with an SVS CS and an SVS CS+ that lives five miles from me. I requested an audition, this should be cool.
  21. Is that the new Klipsch HT line on your frontpage? What is the retail for that setup if it is?
  22. He cancelled the auction. I guess he received one too many emails~
  23. Can this be done or is it overkill? I can fit two side by side on top of my 65" and am wondering if I would get more out of it. I don't have room for a RF-7 so two RC-7s is the next best thing as long as my receiver can push it. Next question is if I decide to do this what is the best way of hooking it up? Can I hook one up with a banana plug and the other with bare wire or the little horseshoe looking connector or is there another way? Thanks in advance. I'm just looking for the best option available with my limited space.
  24. What's up with all the Klipschers living up north? I would love to make one of these get togethers but living in Houston Texas makes it hard. I have only seen a small handful that live in the Houston, Dallas, Austin area. Maybe if a big northern get together is planned well enough in advance my girl and I can make it up there... or maybe if I'm good I can get away solo, man that would be great~
