  1. You'll probably need to spend $800-$1000 for a good glass bead screen that is just wall mounted, more if you want a saucy motorized roll-up one. Keep in mind the screen will likely outlast your projector pyro is right, front projectors really aren't for watching the morning news. Then again, I'm not too picky about having "The Weather Channel" or "The Drew Carey Show" look their best either
  2. I'm in much the same boat because I don't have an extra room in my current house. However, my woman is very easy going and she's a little bit excited about the idea of a movie room as well so it shouldn't be a problem to get a HT room in the next house.
  3. Oh man, the plaster work is beautiful, the crown molding re-done right after I bought the house. Check out http://photos.yahoo.com/damonrpayne and click on Duplex to see the empty living room. It would be no small undertaking to rip it up to find a stud.
  4. My current home theater room is less than ideal, mostly because of a large walk through on the rear right side exactly where speakers ought to be. Currently I have bookshelfs on stands (barstools actually) but I was hoping to replace those with RS-7s. I do have space above the walkthrough to mount speakers on the wall. However this would put them fairly close to the ceiling. How much is the absolute minimum space between the top of the speaker and ceiling? Could I put cloth or something up there to help absorb echo? Also, the interior is plaster (old house) should I be worried about mounting speakers to it?
  5. Oh, my mistake, I thought your remodeling was in fact your creation of a dedicated room
  6. www.reliableaudiovideo is another site with good prices on stuff. I plan on getting RS-7s to go with my RF-5s though, you might want to consider them as they have a larger ranged than the RS-3 II and the RS-35
  7. As much as we all covet good gear, I think anyone who's even half serious dreams of having a room _dedicated_ to sound and movies. No living room traffic running through your sound room, no concessions to be made for aesthetics, no comprimises on gear placement because a lamp needed to go there If I had to choose between the best gear in the world or just having a dedicated room. . .
  8. I don't have the PS2 optical yet, everyone is out of them around here! Vice City is not my kind of thing but FF-X is, really good sound in that. Will probably be even better once one of the 4 area Best Buy gets the lightwave cables back in stock.
  9. The color is all screwed up, or black and white, if the plugs are in wrong. I've got the plugs right but it just won't do P-scan.

    PS2 Games

What playstation 2 games do you enjoy the sound of? Right now I'm actually finding Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance rather fun on my new system.
  11. I was in much the same situation (except I never touched Bose) recently. What I did was to start assembling a 5.1 digital system out of what I had - now I've replaced almost everything. You've got 4 speakers so maybe start with getting a center channel and an audio video receiver? Does your DVD player do digital sound out? Replace that first if it can't.
  12. I have a WRX. You cannot drive it hard enough to get the times Car & Driver gets without it breaking. I'd take the E46 M3 over my car any day. Bah to volksw-, er I mean, Audi.

LOL ---------------- WOW, and to think I spent all this money on Klipsch when I could have had it all for less than a couple of cables cost
  14. I don't have the model number here but it does show widescreen movies in letterbox automatically. I need a new house, with a big room, so I can get a projector
  15. I'll have to look into that, I think I lost the manual to the Wega
  16. BTW saw your sig, I have Henckel knives too. Last cutlery you'll ever need to buy And yes, I just moved recently and the movers groaned and said "Man, Wega is the heaviest TV made by _anyone_ !"
  17. So to answer my question, you _do_ need HDTV capabilities (or close to it) in order for the TV to be able to accept 480p video? Thanks! The picture is still sharp as hell just with the nice cables. /me starts pricing HDTV models

You normaly can get some of it to disapear with better equiment, but not all. Welcome to some nice speaker. ---------------- It is just a little hissing, I certainly can't hear it with music or a movie going, even using the crappy 9 year old Sony receiver. I have to be about a foot away from the speakers with volume fairly low to hear it Seems as though all is well then, thanks.
  19. I have a progressive scan DVD player and the proper component video output. I connected my component outs last night to my Sony Wega. I don't have the model number, but it is not a true HD TV. The video is mangled with progressive scan on, I tried all the various modes. I can only assume the TV can't accept the 480p signal, but I thought all Wega TVs had that capabilty? Anyone know?
  20. My new RF-5s have a slight amount of noise which is really only audible very close to them. All the noise comes from the horns, none from any of the other speaker parts. What are possible causes of noise in speakers? I'm thinking: -Signal/Noise output ratio of my current receiver? Shipping was delayed for my HK -Speaker/Receiver connection? -Speakers are underpowered? -Not broken in yet? -Dirty power? -EMF? Or, a small amount of noise is unavoidable? I've never owned speakers this nice before so I don't know what to expect.
  21. clyclonej - Sweet setup, nice pictures! Nice site, I don't have pics on mine yet.
  22. If you're buying new, why not get the RF-35s to match your fronts? On the flip side, I'm using bookshelf speakers for surrounds right now and they're working OK. If you bought RB-X bookshelf speakers I'm sure it would sound great.
  23. One alternative, if you're feeling lucky, is to use a retailer who isn't authorized but will match the manufacturer's warranty. http://www.reliableaudiovideo.com is such a place, with apparently a good Yahoo! service rating. However, I guess I'd still be worried about companies going under or not honoring their "gentleman's agreement" to support the product.
  24. Won't most dolby ex and dts-es receivers extrapolate the extra channel of information from a 6.1 source if you want? It's not faithful reproduction because you're inventing a channel thats not there though? Or, do they just play the same rear channel data through both rear surrounds?
  25. My opinion is to go with the HK especially if you have Klipsch reference series speakers. Denon is too sharp on the highs for my taste.
