  1. I'm going to call the shop for clarification, but if they have a pair it would be nice to meet some of you guys down there while I'm meeting the palladium speakers.
  2. A reader of my site tipped me off about this, but my contacts at Klipsch were very skeptical. Carefully reading the info on their website, they say a "preview of the line" or something like that, so it may not mean an actual listening session. They have not returned my request for comment.
  3. Standard DVDs work of course. The ole 60gb model has the hardware and has the best backwards compatibility.
  4. Sorry I should have been more clear. I already own a headphone amp that I am reviewing, I'm not looking for something portable. I was just starting a discussion on this topic now that Klipsch offers headphones. The amp is the entry-level offering from Headroom, I should have the review up next week.
  5. Yeah, the way these work is you send the output directly into the amp, then to the phones. It seems like amplifying an already amplified signal could be all sorts of problems but I know next to nothing about that realm of electronics. I'm doing the back to back listening today with my demo disc, after that I'm just going to live with the amp for a while.
  6. So, this is for Klipsch people (Prof Thump and Others) and anyone else with an opinion: What is your opinion of headphone amps in general? What type of system was most of the testing of the new line of headphones done with? Headphone jack on the stereo? Discman? Ipod? Headphone jack on the laptop? I'm writing a review of a headphone amp for my website, which will lead nicely into my review of the Custom 3 when available. So far, I think the headphone amp is a very noticeable improvement over plugging the headphones directly into my laptop. I started out the first few hours thinking "Different, yes, better, I'm not sure" and moving into "Definately better, moving closer to the detail and dynamics of my cornwalls but still a ways to go and still lacking good bass." I work on a computer and I listen to headphones at least 20 hours per week with a pair of Senheiser HD-280. I'd like to think I unquestioningly know how my headphones sound but I'm extremely paranoid about reviewer bias and psyching myself out to expect better sound. I promised myself I would live with these for a week before posting the review, and take some notes each day. Once I get a day this week where work is less insane I should be able to do some back to back (no amp/amp/no amp/amp) critical listening with some music I know excrutiatingly well to satisfy myself a little better.
  7. Those look incredibly new for '72 vertical cornwalls. The grilles look brand new, and what year did klipsch start using that style of PWK badge?
  8. Whee! I'm ditching at least one of my advertisers on KlipschCorner.com. This is easy to do since all my advertising is free! DeanG, Bob Crites, Mark Deneen, Soundbroker, Popbumper, and others I don't know about: a little free advertising couldn't hurt if you have any kind of ad graphic, logo, or text(and a web site I can link to). This is a free service for people who want to soup up their Klipsch stuff with aftermarket parts or complimenting electronics. My friends in marketing tell me it adds "legitimacy" to the site, so you're doing me a favor too. PM me.
  9. The song selection isn't quite as cool as previous guitar hero games, but it sounds pretty good on my Cornwalls. (Not as good as some games with HD audio like Lair)
  10. That's how I used to have them mounted. I don't care about "flush", meaning the front of the horn is perfectly even with the motorboard, but was seeking to screw them into thefront of the motorboard for the aforementioned acoustic reasons. When I get the new parts back I'll remount everything to the back of the motorboard unless I hear some wacky ideas here...
  11. "Entertainment centers" are your enemy: they take up valuable space and cost money that would be betters spent on more gear. Go with the top of the cabinet idea. I don't remember if the C7 has screws built in to tilt it but rubber grip furniture coasters work surprisingly well, that's what I have proping up my vertical cornwall.
  12. I haven't deer hunted since I was 14. Eating the tenderloin with eggs for breakfast was almost worth getting up at the dawn of time and freezing my arse off, though. Bring me some tenderloin and I shall forgive you []
  13. So, I have this excellent CW cabinet from Popbumper. During his recent visit, Colter was surprised to see that I had mounted the horns and woofer from the rear, where on my CWIIs they are obviously flush mounted from the front. I mentioned that Bob Crites was redoing the diaphram in my squaker and a new crossover too, so I'd just take the whole thing apart and mount from the front. The motorboard isn't routed out so that they'd mount flush but I don't care about that, and sometimes some dialog sounds like it's "coming from around a corner" so to speak so I figured that's probably the type of distortion they got rid of by changing how things were mounted on the CWII. Take a look at the picture, that is absolutley NOT going to work for me, is it? I could get creative at the contact points and make the k-77 and k-601 fit, but the woofer is a lost cause.
  14. I would think the noise reduction is not a S/N ratio, but that they block environmental noise from getting into your ears.
  15. When are you going to get your k-horn theater on my site John?
  16. http://www.klipschcorner.com/BlogDetail.aspx?guid=04421cc7-23e5-406f-8d16-8d8f617fe87b Next time give me warning guys so I can have some ribs and home brew ready!
  17. Hmmmm.... Michael's hinting at setting up the mother of all sound systems for the Pilgrimage ... maybe everybody could load up their ear plugs and we could put a couple of sets of those little cube speakers in the sweet spot and see how much acoustic power they can take before shaking to pieces [6] I doubt Klipsch could officially sanction such a demonstration. However, a fan site could video tape this event and such a nice home movie would be entertaining for years to come. We'll have to take up a collection to purchase said little cubes.
  18. It's not that I forget to thank people but that I don't really know if people want their names on things; I need to do a better job of asking [] Favorite fansite? I am flattered! Most days I like to think of klipschcorner as the "best" fansite, on frustrating days the "only" fansite [].
  19. I can't duplicate this in IE7, Firefox 2, or Safari
  20. I thought some 2ch folks might be interested in my latest handy work: http://www.klipschcorner.com/Articles.aspx?guid=ca77bac2-8629-4357-a9f9-31264f97cb6b I really like the way Jim ends the interview.
  21. Google Reader, Outlook, RSS Bandit, IE, Firefofx all have RSS support. Who here uses these readers, or others? I'm looking for people to test the KlipschCorner RSS feed. The feed URL is http://www.klipschcorner.com/Services/2005/11/Rss.asmx/GetRecentEntries
  22. It's a good thing for some people, but not for the ecosystem. The big winners in all of this are conntent creators and end users. Those two groups cannot play without the CE companies. The amount it takes to play and the margins they stand to gain are not that great for CE companies. Suppose that a real good looking HD movie is 30gb-50gb. It will be years upon years (my guess is 10) before enough people have the bandwidth to just grab a 30gb movie and store it. HD packaged media depends on the ecosystem of CE companies, content creators, and customers all thinking this is in their best interest. If format wars make the CE aspect an instant race to the bottom, they are going to run away and hide the next time new technology comes out.
  23. And what does that have to do with the sale? There were two posts above that went on a video quality tangent, I followed them.
  24. How good an HD film looks depends on the condition of the master the HD transfer was made from and the job the compressionists did. The compressionists can do a better job by being able to use a higher bitrate throughout the encode. The greater space of BluRay means they can use more space for video and still have space for lossless audio. This fact combined with the higher max audio/bitrate supported is an absolute technical advantage for BluRay. I hope BluRay wins in the marketplace: if you take away which studio and which CE companies are supporting which format you are left at the end of the day with a technology stack, and I'd like the better tech stack to win. Who wins in the marketplace remains to be seen.
  25. Any kids in costumes posts this year? Here's my punkin girl:
