    Quake 4

(Putting on the amature game programmer hat) The graphics card is all-important. Triangle setup, shadow calculations, and texture mapping are done natively on the GPU. In some extreme cases your texture memory may leak into your main system memory, in which case having tons of RAM and a fast bus(ergo PCI-Express over AGP) helps the graphics card retreive texture or vertext mesh information from your system's main memory so that it can do work on it and render it. So, spend money on the graphics card ESPECIALLY if you are mostly deathmatch. (Putting on the amature physics and AI programmer hat) Many of today's modern games are using more and more realistic physics and AI. Realistic physics takes a lot of CPU cycles to, say, calculate the position and velocity of a spinning projectile as a function of time after it's bounced off of a surface. AI takes both tons of processing power and tons of memory. The better the AI, the more attributes it is aware of and training it has, the more memory it will use and CPU cycles to figure out what to do. CPUs can keep up with the type of AI and physics in games today much easier than graphics cards are keeping up with the punishment dev shops are throwing at them. thanks, i figured as much. I knoew the CPU is very important for games, as the entire game logic is done via the cpu. the gpu is just for drawning thoes polys, but as we progress, the polys get seemly more and more complex.. real time bumbmaping, reflectinos, what not. I guess its good to just get a fast cpu and a fast gpu. Thats sorta what im going for, but not the top of the line as i can not afford it. btw, ear, i have pulled 300+/0 in half-life - not easy. In quake4, i was happy to get 19/7 last night.. boy that game is hard and i need a new pc BAD!

    Quake 4

crossfire... and elite players never bothered with that. You can ecaspe the nuke by gauss jumping up about 250+ feet right before it hits. Is your 3.4hz still lagging in quake? Shit, Do you knwo if the cpu is more important than the video card or the other way around. I hear its the videocard, but i know if you have a slow cpu, things also crawl.

    Quake 4

I just picked up my copy of quake4. Its a lot like quake 3 with a touch more of quake2. Mostly because of the map The Edge. There are a few quake 3 maps thrown in there two which I have always hated. I tried to get "elite" at quake3, but never really got to the pro level. I was a pro half-life dm (VERY FUN GAME AT the pro level) player for a number of years.. top 5-10 players for a period of time, but that was years ago. I was thinking I could try to get back into the scene with quake4, but the competition is VERY tough. I was playing in some tourney servers tonight and I got killed by quake 3 players all night long. One other notable thing, you'll need to upgrade your PC if you are serious about this game, unless you have a good one. I was running a XP 2400+ with a Ti 4800. That doest even come close to what you need. Im gonna grab a 4000+ with 7800 GT in a few days. Good luck people, and ill see you in the servers...
  5. That guy is an idiot to set up thoes speakers on a hard surface floor. That would just ruin the imaging.
  6. hey bro...can you do each and everyone of us a big favor and... HOLD THE CAMERA STRAIGHT OR LEARN HOW TO ROTATE A PICTURE. MY GRANDMOTHER CAN DO THIS AND SHE DOEST KNOW JACK SH!T ABOUT ELECTRONICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. retail is only 200. You better find someone willing to pay over retail for a used item. which implies this is a collectors item.. which may be true.. depends. I sold mine for 227 a while ago.

    svs plus/4

I bet they would.. may have to be braced more. I asked SVS if a custom ultra4 was do-able.. They said, for the extra money, absolutely <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Then I hid my puny debit card out of sight.
  9. Cost is about 180 dollars, next to the 2.0's whic are only 80. You cant tell me subtracting two speakers, then putting everything in only 1 enclousure with a smaller amp is going to cost over 100% more because of a freaking iPod DOCK! Klipsch, what the hell are you thinking? This is BOSE-like indeed.
  10. ya, the synergy's are a stick deal.. svs is not gonna be able to match that.
  11. As if YOU wouldnt buy an new Klipsch subwoofer the day it came out anyway......
  12. we (compusa) dont have it in stock yet, but I am very disappointed with the only dual drivers setup. I expect quad drivers like the 2.0's or tow bigger drivers like 4ers. I think that would have at least given the iM7 some competition.
  13. Dayton 10" www.partsexpress.com <--its in there somewhere
  14. http://www.svsubwoofers.com/news.htm svs now makes speakers! And klipsch now makes a sounddock that doest not suck (iGroove) www.klipsch.com

ya well, did I thought the iFi raised the bar on the ipod speaker systems, but all it did was put itself in a class that not many people wanted to try.
  16. The RW-8 is a step up from the iFi, but both the iFi and RW-8 are more like a flight of steps up from the 2.1 THX subwoofer. The iFi subwoofer has the least amount of port distortion of any multimedia subwoofer. Its got less than even the Ultra 5.1, so its a very nice subwoofer indeed. Its also a bit smoother, and has less harmonic distortion than the ultra 5.1 too. Its output is a tad lower, but its quality is as good as any subwoofer in its price range can be. Its very well designed and performs above expectations. Most people honestly discredit the iFi subwoofer when they first hear it. This occurs because the subwoofers volume is matched more appropriately with the system. In other words, most multimedia systems are bass heavy. The iFi is simply balanced. The subwoofer will be less fatiguing but far more dynamic. In other words, if your listening to a Logitech system, youll hear a lot of bass and thats about it, but with the iFi youll hear the right amount of bass with a few surprising dynamic moments when called upon which in the previous case, would have only lead to distortion. Of course you can crank up the iFi if you like, but you wont be able to distortion much at all. So to answer your question, yes the iFi is a MUCH better subwoofer, but dont worry about RMS. that really doest tell you much about how a subwoofer sounds or even how loud it can be. Here is my ifi next to my 2.1... big difference!
  17. whats the deal with the remote upgrade?
  18. I used to own the PB12-ISD. I returned it ultimately because it did not haveenough punch for my needs but it certainly had the low end covered. It would shake the room at 20hz. Nothing can replace cabinet volume + linear displacement, even a 2000 dollar sunfire has tradeoffs for its size. The SVS is simply going to get it done just the way a big block V8 would. But instead of paying low gas mileage, you pay for real state in your living room. Im planning on a buying a Sub-12 which has more air displacement and is about ~$200 less, but its smaller and lighter with a higher FR response. Keep in mind, the svs is 600 but shipping is another 50, and that cable is another 20. so factor 670 for the pb12-isd. The sub-12 can be had out the door for 450 from bestbuy and its got more output from 25hz and up againts the pb12. I'll tell you this, the build quality on the svs is unmatched and it makes Klipsch subwoovers, save the RSW's, look very cheap. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Good luck.
  19. oh wow, krell uses TC woofers too? Do you know what oem they use in thier speakres and tweeters?
  20. Oh sure, ill just swing by on my way home to San Diego Ca, rofl. I would have......
  21. oh, i go full time too, but i need to work also, kinda sucks.

How about compusa w/ apple stores?
  23. ROFL that jerkoff just banned my ip from the entire ilounge.com website! Thats about the 10th time he has done this, yet I hardly said anything. IF you tell him flaws in his review, you'll be banned! Its very biased and I think bose and altec has payed him off to write negative reviews for klipschs. Even the Creatures, which suck, get better write ups than the iFi's.
