  1. No, I think he's avoiding this place like the plague. I don't think he can come in here without posting. Of course, I've said some stuff over the last month that probably put him might over the edge.
  2. I don't have any experience with silver plated copper interconnects & Heritage speakers. The Superlative seems to be liked by many. It has a huge following. You can buy the kits here: http://www.diycable.com Instructions provided, and getting them together shouldn't be too bad. If you don't feel like dealing with it, the Cardas 300b Microtwin is very nice for less than $100 a pair. Litz magnet wire with cotton and teflon dielectric. The RCA's are low mass, and silver/rhodium plated. At half the money is the Monster 550i. It meets all the criteria of a good cable and lets the system sound great. Good cables are important, but don't get lost in cable hell.
  3. Oh, I see. I thought you were picking on me. The personal attack bit is strange to me. Seems to make more sense to attack the idea which one thinks is 'bad', instead of the poor sap who's burdened with it. Rick 'Audio Flynn' just emailed me telling me how great records are, and that I need to move away from digital. It seems some people have no sense of decency.
  4. Your kidding me right? Greg's post to my initial response was: "Dean, You are right there! In our county they can override your parental authority and put your children into foster care. You just have to stand up to them. Regards, Greg" You respond with: "...Let's not turn another thread into another bottomless political sinkhole...I hear enough of this BS on Radio and on TV...Give it a rest and let's stick to audio." If that's not acting as a self appointed moderator and censor -- I don't know what is. Also, I have no idea what you are talking about above. What "extreme" religious/political views were being expressed in this thread? And who is restricting your opportunity to respond if it were? There was nothing inherently "political" about the posts until you made them such, as evidenced by the posts that followed -- and none of them (yours included) had absolutely anything to do with addressing statements in Jim's post. What the hell is wrong with some friendly advice between members on personal issues, or an affirmation by another member on the given advice? What I really don't understand, and have never understood -- is someone reading through a thread dealing with an issue they have no real interest in, or find offensive -- and then posting something to the effect, "Now, now, let's talk about audio." I just don't see any point in this. If a thread is discussing things of no interest to you, or are non-audio related -- then why not go another thread? Forums are built around virtual relationships, and so are dynamic in nature. Things are naturally going to come up that are not audio related. People have developed a sense of comfort and trust with each other here, and this is bound to be taken advantage of. Last month, in two-channel, you said: "2-Channel Audio is starting to look like General Forum v. II. Non -audio political/religious threads/rants should be restricted to the General Forum." Well, here we are in the General Forum -- so what's the problem? At any rate, you seem to have no problem posting in threads dealing with non-audio related topics, and I would appreciate it if you extended the rest of us the same courtesy.
  5. "I am torn between two projects." Gee, this sounds familiar. I can sure relate. I'm the resident loon here on two-channel. I think I've driven half of everyone crazy with my antics. Man m00n, I feel bad for your RF-7's -- squished in with all that HT stuff. Everytime I go to your page to see where you are at, they cry out to me, "save us", "save us"! Jeff, Is he dead? If so, let him roll -- It would do him some good. Damn controls are part of the circuit anyway -- mind as well use them!
  6. Ah, now I understand! Yeah, you need the outside support from these agencies or you would lose your mind. Plus, if you are getting financial support for medication and outpatient treatment, they do tend to take a look at where your money goes. I have a 22 year old daughter who is bipolar. She made life hell for us. Believe me, I know exactly where you are at with this. She 'moved out' when she was 18 and has just about destroyed herself. Even most professionals don't know how to deal with it. If she stays on her Depakote, she is for the most part O.K. The problem with bipolars is that you can't keep them on their meds. As soon as they feel better -- they quit taking them. It's a battle just to keep them on their medications. Two decades of dealing with her on a daily basis ended up putting ME on meds! People just don't realize the amount of stress associated with this kind of thing. I guess my brain just decided to check out on me one day. I will tell you something that helps a bunch, and as she gets older it will be harder to implement. Keep her away from sugar and processed foods.
  7. I love the tone controls. A very nice thing to have. When I listen at low volumes, I turn both the treble and bass up to 1. When I go 95 to 100 db -- I flatten the bass and turn the treble down to -1.
  8. I didn't know K-horns dropped that low in impedence. In series would be better.
  9. It doesn't work that way. The speakers determine the load to the amp, and you have to use the correct taps for the given load. Do you want all 4 K-horns playing at the same time? If so, that's simple. Wire two of them to the 4 ohm taps of the left channel, and 2 of them to the 4 ohm taps of the right channel. Is this what you are trying to do?
  10. I can't figure out why you only have one output. Why do you only have one ouput? What are you doing with the other one?
  11. "I better hold off on getting a tube amp for now until I can afford something that is not going to cause such a riff between us." "Which is ok, cause I was thinking about buying a Harman Kardon AVR-8000. Now I have a good reason to do so." Help me out here. You can't afford something on the tube side that will please her, but you can afford $2500 for the H/K? I'm banishing you back to the HT forum.
  12. My initial post was addressing a concern for Jim in the context of what he revealed. It had absolutely nothing to do with politics. Some of you seem to think any post not directly related to noise coming out of speaker is "politics". Lynmm -- I don't get it, I think you're getting obsessive about this kind of thing. Whatever happened to "changing the channel"? I'm sick of the third party moderating, and those (including you) deciding what is and is not acceptable to post about. I can't believe Jim went back and deleted every damn post.
  13. Hey moon, My gut tells me that this thing probably sounds pretty sweet. http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cl.pl?ampstube&1054471580&class&3&4&
  14. I was trying to bait Bob Gassel into a show. What a wiener.
  15. I used a Luxman M-117 power amp for over decade. I only sold it a little over a year ago to move to tubes. It was a great sounding amp. How old are your units? The main problem you are going to have is that only someone with a familiarity of the Luxman superior build quality and great sound are going to be attracted to them.
  16. Here we go. The infamous HK 430 against the 5 watt Heath. Did I guess right?
  17. Clipped, Won't your crossover point between the woofers and squawker be primarily determined by how low the driver/lens of the squawker can go? I guess I would crossover as low as possible.
  18. Outside of the 'Grease' & 'Saturday Night Fever' sountracks, strange music from some country I've never heard of, and Barry Manilow -- I don't see anything here to be embarassed about. As for me, I binge on chocolate and sugar enriched cereal while checking out a new DVD. By the time the movie ends, I can usually thread a sewing machine while it's moving.
  19. Actually, I would be surprised if they sound as good. The new drivers aren't as thin, and come with more mass on the cone surfaces.
  20. "I'll send you a copy if you'll mail me a stamped, addressed, legal size envelope." Yeah, buying a stamp and envelope would definitely set you back a ways.
  21. What the hell is a 'Family Counselor', and by what authority is this person operating that they can actually tell you to take your bunk beds apart -- and you actually comply!? It rates up there with one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. "...we do take care of our kids, its the k-horns that they can't understand!" This is an alarming statement. Who are 'they', and what does it matter if they "understand" your hobby and the associated K-horns? And what does this have to do with your kids? Are these people part of a State Agency? If so, you better watch your back.
  22. I wonder what PK thought of multichannel as it is being implemented today? I just got done reading his biography, and though it is apparent he was a big advocate of three-channel 'stereo', there is no indication of what he thought regarding rear channel placement. I know he had real concerns involving unpredictable polar patterns in the soundfield and the resultant cancelation effects and room node excitements, which could take one away from a smooth and accurate frequency response. There is a very interesting wiring scheme in the book for three-channel stereo using two mono-amps. I'll try to scan that in and post it later tonight.
  23. You're late, we've already beat this to death. Besides, who cares? It's not like you can actually DO anything about it. What will be will be, even if it never comes to pass.
  24. That's some very nice work, I bet those do sound great. Man, I would have put those on casters.
  25. Ah man, I forgot to do those measurements. I must be going brain dead.
