  1. <Sigh>[] Another casualty to Political Correctness. You just can't say anything these days without somebody being offended. Where is Larry the Cable guy when you need him? Or maybe Dr. Phil?? What would he say? "You can't be offended unless you let yourself be offended"?? Hmmmm... Look, if you don't like my humor, that's fine. Suck it up and get over it. But DO NOT get up on your high horse and wrap yourself in the flag for me, fella. Patriotism, National Sovereignty, the loss of our manufacturing base to defend ourselves in the future is all very important to me. The fact that the Atlas V, used to carry OUR spy satellites, is powered by engines made in RUSSIA, pains me to no end. Just because I, nor 99.9% of my fellow Americans didn't attend the Academy, doesn't make any of us any less PATRIOTIC. As far as the Navy...you forgot Tail hook. NO... No,,,I don't see any historical trend there......The Good Lord only knows the stuff not reported. For the record, I'm NOT saying you personally are one of the bad apples. As far as the Astronaut, yeah... it's tragic, no question. However you can not deny that Her actions produced a lot of victims. If you want to defend your classmates, GOOD for you, that's honorable, and I truly mean that. Do you plan to write Jay Leno, and Dave Letterman too? Or just some schmuck making a bad joke on the forum? What do you want to bet, a new Fatal Attraction movie comes out with this twist? I never met her, so I can't say what kind of person she was. Yes, the news reports paint her a caring, loving person, who would do anything for you. A person who just happened to cheat on her husband, which led to their separation. Who am I to judge? We all have our own character flaws...well most of us, Which leads to...(This is where it gets personal for me) These astronauts aren't perfect. Many of them think they are. Many are pampas ***, primadonna, jerks. They get that way because they are to NASA what Mickey is to Disney. A BRAND. An IMAGE. Do you think she or any of the rest of them are the only people in this world that are smart? over achievers? That they are the only ones to have to deal with the stresses of life? I'm surrounded by a group of talented engineers that are all going to be unemployed in the next 30 days or less. You think they're not stressed? She crashed because she'd never fly again? SO WHAT?? That's an excuse??? Look, contrary to what NASA would have you believe, you don't need to be a PHD to turn a wrench in space. You know how many people it takes to fly seven astronauts? None of them will ever fly either and many are just if not more talented than her. Talent is a broad word as well. I cringe every time I see the IMAX movie where the astronaut whips out his buck knife to cut open a cable bundle. They'd escort you off the base if you pull a stupid stunt like that here. It doesn't matter. She's yesterdays news. Now we have Anna Nicole to talk about. I hear she was a nice person too....... Now for some thing more important ... Sad News With all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the moment, it is worth reflecting on the death of a very important person, which almost went unnoticed last week. Larry LaPrise, the man that wrote "The Hokey Pokey" died peacefully at the age of 93. The most traumatic part for his family was getting him into the coffin. They put his left leg in. And then the trouble started. Shut up. You know it's funny.
  2. She could not help herself. She was PiSSD! Post Space Syndrome Disorder. (sorry) The saddest part is the object of her affection will never fly again either. She ruined her career and his. Some one at work was telling me of a similar incident a few years ago at the Naval Academy. Turned into a double murder suicide. Given that she was a Naval grad...and him a Naval officer...I'm starting to see a pattern here....
  3. There's no one on board the launch platform (an old oil rig) at the time of launch, but yeah it'd probably rattle your fillings out if you were. I haven't seen a rocket crinkle like that since the 60's.
  4. Todays launch by SeaLaunch (Boeing) = BTW... The same Russain company also makes the engines for the Atlas 5 which will be lifting the mission I'm working on. http://www.spaceflightnow.com/atlas/av013/070111date/
  5. I've got an ignorant question. I've read little tidbits here and there about the K-48, but never any spec's, or if it'll dig deeper when ported. Hearing you state you may wish to experiment with dual parallel 8 ohm woofers made me wonder. Do you know the spec's on the K-48? If you do...would the K-48 be a candidate for such a ported experiment? Not that you have any... I'm just curious.......
  6. Dean what makes the Super-T better? I can't find anything spec wise to justify the extra $100...other than it comes with its own wall wart and upgraded connections/case. Thanks
  7. Hey! Wait a minute, I've seen the new Camaro at the movies. Lighning McQueen... Gallery: Cars Next: Sally http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.channel4.com/4car/media/features/2006/cars-film-review/03-large/cars-lightning-mcqueen.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.channel4.com/4car/gallery/gallery.jsp%3Fid%3D1859&h=305&w=440&sz=35&hl=en&start=12&tbnid=_4QlskWjkQ8NmM:&tbnh=88&tbnw=127&prev=/images%3Fq%3DLightning%2BMcQueen%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26channel%3Ds%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26hs%3De9V%26sa%3DX
  8. Once again, P. T. Barnum was right......
  9. DAMNNNNNNNNnnnnnnnnnnnnnnniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTttttttttttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can figure out that the damn plane will take off, but I can't post on to this forum!! Let me try again... D-Man...As much as I admire your knowledge of audio and speaker design, you've go this all wrong concerning the plane. Do you know what an air bearing is? We use air bearing pallets to move literally TONS of flight hardware around on a micro cushion of air. Suppose for a moment that you replaced the planes wheels with air bearings. The plane would float on a micro cushion of air above the spinning conveyor belt ...right?? Nothing there to impede it from taking off, correct?? Okay, put the wheels back on. Would you agree that unlike an automobile, where the engine and drive drain are coupled via the wheels to the surface, an airplanes wheels are just free spinning? Would it not make sense therefore that if the conveyore belt spun at matched speed to the speed of the plane, that the wheels would then spin freely at twice their normal rate? While the wheels will not enjoy the same friction free attributes of the air bearings, in this case it's close enough for government work...Would you not agree??? Please say yes!!!
  10. Oldbuckster...What??? You actually think I'm going to buy it? Okay, IF I was Jay Leno I probably would, but I'm not. I posted the link out of nostaglia and a reality check of where car prices are going for those who have more money than sense... Personally, I'd love to have the time and money to play with a vintage Toronado again. The body is an art form that I can ID with. I don't care if no one else does, or if I had to sell it afterward that it didn't fetch a million dollars. I wouldn't be doing it for "them"...just "me". JJKIZAK, I couldn't agree with you more. It's all about STYLE. Yeah, today's higher tech cars will out perform yesterdays...and for less money. That's not the point. Some car styles will with stand the test of time, while others are tomorrows Yugos. To paraphase Harley owners, "If I have to explain it, you wouldn't under stand" Sorry if I've offended anyone....
  11. You probably won't like my suggestion because you're going to need a backhoe and EPDM rubber. You need the backhoe to dig a trench next to your basement wall, and about two feet deeper than your foundation. Then you need to take a single sheet of EPDM rubber 45 mil thick and hang it against your wall with the remainder creating a trough in the section that ran 2 ft deeper than your foundation. This will drain the water in the direction of your choosing (french drain). If you are not familar with EPDM rubber it has at least a 50 year life, and stretches. It's impervious to water and most chemicals. If you shop around you can buy it for less than 50 cents ft/2 and can be found in just about any sheet size you need. It's a bitter pill, but I think this would be your best bet, and other than the back hoe, you can hang the sheet yourself. If you want more info let me know. Good Luck. TC
  12. Anybody have any spare cash?? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SUPERBIRD-FACTORY-999-PETTY-BLUE-ROTISSERIE-RESTORED_W0QQitemZ330066606012QQihZ014QQcategoryZ43921QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  13. I've seen other tricked out vintage Tornado's, but never Leno's...DROOOOoooooLLLL. I REALLY wish I still had mine. Paid $2500 for it, but didn't have a decent place to keep it. I already had/have one hanger queen...73' Olds Gutlass. Nothing special about it, other than I've had it since 76' and spent a ton of time and $$$ on lacquer. The Toronado just has such fine lines you really don't have to do much to it and it offers plenty of potential if you do. If any one car had STYLE this would be it. Not to say a Ferrari, or Lambo are ugly. They're more like a crotch rocket compared to a Bourget chopper. I wish I had to time to play, I'd buy another and breathe some life into it. I have to tell you for a land yacht it really handled pretty good for it's size too. Thanks for the Leno link TC
  14. 1968 Olds Toronado with 455 ci quadrajet. I don't have a digital picture of my mine...sadly no longer have it...but here's a similar one. Mine was "Ticket me RED" w/ black accents. Once got into a impromptu race in the 80's w/ a co worker who just bought a Dodge Shelby w/ turbo. Let's just say there's no substitute for cubic inches... here's some other views http://www.cardomain.com/ride/582914
  15. Tom, I too am glad to hear you are getting your ship turned around. I have something to offer and I hope that I'm not out of place in doing such. I offer it because it helped me with my own relationship with my wife several years ago. Ignore the title of the site, for it's much, much more. Look through it and you will find a wealth of articles, cause for self relection, and a road map out of relationship hell. Really, what I gained was a new out look on how to treat people. Not just your loved one, but everyone you meet, or even work with. I hope going to this site helps you and Laura as much as it helped us. http://www.divorceasfriends.com/ Good luck TC
  16. I must have missed the link discussing these originally. Can anyone point me in that direction. THANKS Nice work, BTW!
  17. I was in the process of reporting it, but Ebay had already shut it down. I'm also a little PO'd at Ebay. They make it hard as hell to report anything. Hoop after hoop after hoop one must jump through and THEN they ask for more information about the listing..which means you have to go all the way back........ it's be nice (smart) if they had a hot button you could click on the report the item right then and there. Jeff, that sucks! I don't remember how many characters I had typed in before I caught myself, but it wasn't many. I can only hope that my dual layer firewalls, spybot detectors and ZoneAlarm will be enough to shield me....yeah I know it's never enough....
  18. This just happened to me and I almost fell for it. I clicked on an item and was immediately sent to the log in screen where I started to enter my data. Had I not looked up at the address bar, and saw it wasn't a https: ebay address, I would have been SCREWED. I didn't really think twice about being asked to log back in as this happens to me often. Probably due to me leaving my machine up and staying logged in all the time causes it to time out. The theives are getting slicker all the time.[:@] Be careful out there!
  19. RE: Geez guys, twenty five pages and still going at it?
  20. Plane or Shuttle, jet engine or rocket motor, wings or no wings it really does not matter ( yes, I know a plane can't fly w/o wings). The forward propulsion is the same. The wheels and conveyor belt have no part in this equation. The conveyor belt could be going a billion times faster in the opposite direction and the plane or rocket will still fly. The thrust or drive is not against the belt. It's not an automobile where the wheels are what's being powered or driven against the ground or belt. In the case of the plane the wheels are free rolling and totally independant of the propulsion. What if the plane were already in flight and you were able to raise the counter rotational conveyor belt up such that it contacted the wheels. Would the plane suddenly stall out and be unable to take off again?? I've probably restated whats previously already been stated several times already. My apologies to the original staters![]
  21. Can anyone tell me how this can fly? Let's say it had wheels on it and it was leaning against a vertical conveyor belt spinning in the opposite direction with equal speed? I mean, this should be static in motion...Right? [] I know this (proof) argument has been offered before, but seems to have been ignored. This will take a minute to get to the crux of things... http://mfile.akamai.com/18566/wmv/etouchsyst2.download.akamai.com/18355/wm.nasa-global/sts-121/right_forward_srb_camera.asx http://mfile.akamai.com/18566/wmv/etouchsyst2.download.akamai.com/18355/wm.nasa-global/sts-121/right_forward_srb_camera.asx
