  1. Let's see if my fellow Klipschians can help me solve this issue. Here's the deal: 2002 Chevy Express (full-size) Van; 1/2 ton; V-8 350 Problem: Van was blowing moderately warm air but temp guage was showing at or a hair below the 160 hash. Service engine light on (checked code-says running cooler than normal or something along those lines) What I have done: 1) Replaced thermostat (195 degree failsafe model)-afterwards van still blew moderately warm air (although it did seem a tad cooler than before the replacement but that could simply have been due to a decrease in outside air temp). Guage still reading same, just at/below the 160 hash (it does move) 2) Replaced coolant temp sensor-after change air still blew lukewarm and decreased when van was moving. Guage reading SLIGHTLY higher, barely edged above the 160 hash. 3) Replaced thermostat again (same model)-van now blowing warmer air even when moving (despite frigid MI temps). Guage now about a hash or hash-and-a-half above the 160 mark. Service engine light still on. Van will blow much warmer air even when moving. One other issue that I noticed last night is that the rear air/heat is blowing very cool air. I failed to check this air temp before/after the other changes so I cannot state for certain that this is something new. I cannot imagine what else this could be other than a thermostat. If the coolant temp sensor was bad and indicating a low temp to the guage the air would have been warm. If the guage is bad the air would also still be warm. Any ideas for me?
  2. Awesome pic, my friend. There is nothing quite like seeing a loving father with his child(ren). Keep it up, bro. Looks like the little one is signing, "I love you."
  3. My Glock came with a mag loader but it doesn't compare to the uplula. I believe the XDs all come w/a loader as well.
  4. Nice pickup, Professor. I handled the XDs before purchasing my Glock and liked the safety features on the XD but the Glock felt a bit better in my hand. Everything is a tradeoff, no? When I first bought the gun I was at the range doing some shooting and someone handed me one an uplula mag loader. I can load the mags by hand no problem but the final round (13) is a bit tight. The uplula makes loading a breeze. http://maglula.com/ I think mine was around $25.
  5. I'm so sorry, Trey. What a horrible thing to endure. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.
  6. I much prefer Socom for online gaming, except the Nazi Zombi levels as I mentioned earlier. You should try it a couple of times, it's pretty addicting. Send me a friends invite and I'll play w/you sometime. GUNR1
  7. Popcorn kills, who knew? Wednesday, September 5, 2007 Death By Popcorn The deaths linked to the use of diacetyl in microwave popcorn were originally all linked to factory workers. 'Popcorn lung' is what they called the deadly disorder acquired by the factory workers. All that seems to have changed today, as doctors diagnose a patient who was exposed to microwave popcorn fumes several times a day with the affliction. Consumers, not just factory workers, may be in danger from fumes from buttery flavoring in microwave popcorn, according to a warning letter to federal regulators from a doctor at a leading lung research hospital. A pulmonary specialist at Denver's National Jewish Medical and Research Center has written to federal agencies to say doctors there believe they have the first case of a consumer who developed lung disease from the fumes of microwaving popcorn several times a day for years. "We cannot be sure that this patient's exposure to butter flavored microwave popcorn from daily heavy preparation has caused his lung disease," cautioned Dr. Cecile Rose. "However, we have no other plausible explanation." Additionally: ...the Flavor and Extract Manufacturers Association issued a statement Tuesday recommending that its members reduce "to the extent possible" the amount of diacetyl in butter flavorings they make. How about NO diacetyl flavor industry?
  8. IMHO: Single player: not as good as COD4, not even close. I went through it twice and was bored the entire second time through. Multiplayer: I don't play it (I prefer SOCOM's online platform) Nazi Zombies: AWESOME! I dunno what it is about killing those zombies, but I love it!!
  9. Weird. Now I'm seeing the blue car. Am I in the Matrix or something?
  10. You macho gun-nuts need to knock it off right now. You're damaging our reputation with this little love-fest.
  11. Congrats to the Penguins for pulling out of this series! Wow, that was a great game (although I can think of one way that it would have been better []). The Pittsburgh defense really did a great job.
  12. Wow, great post and very deep too. You are probably right, though. We should also eliminate from possible discussion topics covering: heart disease (600k deaths per year), cancer (560k deaths per year) etc etc etc. Want to talk about corvettes? Sorry, there are over 40,000 automobile deaths per year and this is just too sensitive a topic for my thin skin. 5 minutes to Miller time? I don't think so, Tim. 15,000+ deaths each year are due to drunk driving.
  13. I find these two quotes simply detestable. Assuming that any one of us who carries has some sort of macho fantasy about killing someone is about as far from the truth as one may get. Re-read the thread, Colin, and come back to reality.
  14. I am of the opinion that we delude ourselves when we begin thinking that crime cannot occur at anytime and in any place. Are the percentages in your favor if you live in a safe neighborhood and work in a safe area? Sure. However, I would prefer to carry for a lifetime and never need a weapon than to be in a single situation where it could have been a lifesaver and not have had it there with me. I also do not believe that my risk factor is increased very much by having a pistol on my person. It isn't terribly difficult to carry comfortably, it won't go off on its own and as long as it is safely secured in a holster, the chances of a negligent discharge are infinitisemal. This is my personal choice; I am not trying to sway anyone that carrying is for them. A good friend from college has been my CPA for the past 17 years and works in one of the swankiest cities in Michigan. As he and a partner of the firm were walking out one day, a former colleague was walking into the building. They didn't notice what he was carrying and he, thank God, did not see them as one of his intended targets that day was the very partner that my friend was walking with. He was carrying a shotgun and used it on some of his former coworkers. Story below. 1 Killed, 2 Injured In Office Shooting Shooting Suspect Arrested Following Police Chase POSTED: Monday, April 9, 2007 UPDATED: 7:57 am EDT April 10, 2007 TROY, Mich. -- Police have announced they have Anthony LaCalamita, 38, in custody in connection with a workplace shooting Monday inside Gordon Advisors' Accounting Firm in Troy. Police said a 50-year-old Dexter man driving a pickup truck on Interstate 75 near Flint and spotted the silver 2007 Ford Fusion for which police were searching and called 911. "We knew who he was and what kind of car he was driving," Troy Police Lt. Gerry Scherlinck said. "Local police and state agencies were advised right away, and it appears we were successful in finding that car." The Genessee County Sheriff's Department was en route to the Ford and became involved in a short chase with the driver, later confirmed to be LaCalamita. Officers followed the car through Saginaw and pulled him over in Bay City. They said they recovered a 12-gauge pump shotgun and three bullet shells from inside the car, according to Genessee County Sheriff Robert J. Pickell. Pickell said LaCalamita was subdued when they finally caught up with him. "When you're going at speeds up to 120 mph, and he's gone through some of that -- you can imagine right after that he felt like it was over," Pickell said of LaCalamita's body language. The vehicle LaCalamita was driving was impounded and transported to the Troy Police Department, according to officials. LaCalamita was processed at the Genessee County Jail and charged with fleeing and eluding police, but returned to the Troy Police Department later Monday afternoon. Police said he is expected to be charged with murder, among other charges. LaCalamita entered the 1301 Long Lake Crossings building on Long Lake Road and opened fire on the second floor. Police and witnesses said that LaCalamita was a former employee of Gordon Advisors' Accounting Firm but was laid off last week. One person has died and two more were injured, according to Troy police. Police said LaCalamita seems to have chosen his victims carefully, shooting the first victim at the front of the suite, then charging toward the back and making eye contact with other employees until he allegedly found his two other targets. In the first few moments following the shooting, no one knew if LaCalamita had escaped the building or was going to attack others inside the building. There are 40 other tenants in the same building and workers were were trapped in their offices, not wanting to leave for fear something would happen. "All we heard was the screaming so we ran into a middle office -- our offices are all in one line -- we all ran into an office together and got under a desk," said Krista Partin, who works in the building. Steve Johnston works on the second floor less than 100 feet from where the shots were fired. "I just pulled everyone away from the reception area and made sure all the doors are locked," he said. "Then we sat there and waited for information." A police swat team searched the building from room to room, starting on the ground floor and working their way up. Police said they slowly cleared sections of the building and escorted workers outside. George Smrtka also works in the building and he said the incident is hard to fathom. "Very surreal, you always see it on TV but never think it will ever happen where you work," Smrtka said. The person killed was a 63-year-old woman from Warren, police said, but police wouldn't name the victim. A message posted this afternoon on Gordon Advisors' Web site said the office would be closed Tuesday in memory of Madeline Kafoury. Police said the injured were Alan Steinberg, 48, of Sterling Heights, and Paul Riva, 48, of Bruce Township. They were rushed to Royal Oak's Beaumont Hospital because it is the only level one trauma center in Oakland County, officials said. Hospital officials said they have both been in surgery. Families of the victims have requested privacy so no more information on their conditions will be released Monday. Troy Police officers said they have obtained a search warrant for LaCalamita's apartment, and they said they hope the search will clue them in as to why he went on a shooting rampage. Neighbors said that he was quiet and they can't believe he would shoot anybody. Rescue 4 has learned that his wife recently filed for divorce. Last week, police said LaCalamita applied for a concealed weapons permit but was denied. LaCalamita will spend the night at the Troy Police Department and is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday. 15. Most so-called "bad guys" are looking for soft-targets and not those having a gun at the ready or making eye-contact with them on the street. I am always amazed when catching one of the "world's dumbest criminals" type shows and seeing the bad guys duck and run for cover as soon as they see the cashier going for a weapon. I have seen this countless times even when they have entered the store with gun in hand.
  16. There was some phenomenal goaltending in that game, no doubt about it. The Wings were lucky to be down by a single goal for as long as they were. Their performace seemed quite similar to that of game four when they looked tired and unenthused until it was too late. That said, they had many chances to even the score (Zetterburg hitting the post) and quite a few pucks lying around out in front of the goal that they just couldn't put home. It seems like they get a little bit caught up in the dump and chase style and wait too long to get serious. When they finally start skating the puck in and taking it to the net they actually get some good results. I don't recall a goal in this series that was scored from the top of either circle. Wanna score? Take it to the net. There is simply nothing like a game seven in the Stanley Cup Finals. I am obviously hoping for a Wings win but would prefer a double-overtime nailbiter to a blowout anyday. Mr. Illitch is getting his money's worth this year, for sure. A caller into one of the Detroit stations asked about doing a "JoeVision" style event at Comerica Park. Can you imagine the hubbub in Detroit if they filled the Joe AND Comerica AND Hockeytown Cafe with Wings fans?! It's too bad NBC has disallowed the broadcast of their games in that fashion. What an atmosphere that would make in Motown. Fighting & other sissy-stuff: There is no doubt that the fans like it and pay to see it. Fighting in hockey is what makes it different and therefore more emotional than most other sports, IMHO. As they have slowly taken fighting out of the game the games, to me, have become less emotionally involving. Maybe I'm a redneck at heart but hockey has always been a blue-collar sport and one in which fighting has been an integral piece. Sucker punches and the like have no place in the game whatsoever.
  17. Can't do better than Milt Sparks. Look at their VersaMax http://www.miltsparks.com/VM-2.htm Also look up "Thunderwear" and don't laugh. It works and I can carry a full-sized 1911 and spare mag in kakhi shorts and you wouldn't know it. Milt Sparks gets high marks on most accounts but last time I checked had a waiting list of about 9 months.
  18. Just makes you a target here in good ole' Las Vegas. Plus, if you are an atractive female the animals that live here like to harass you. Timely thread. This weekend my wife and I just bought a small Taurus 38 revolver for her, a Sig Sauer P250 9 mm compact for me and a 20 gage shotgun for any surprise visitors at night. My wife wanted a S&W Ladysmith but the deal on the Tauer was so good we couldn't pass it up. We'll get her something diferent if she does not like it. Either a revolver or an automatic. Did we make good choices? I have never really liked guns but this is necessarry nowadays. Is the Sig a DAO?
  19. These kids have an illness. How terrible.
  20. "Aim small, miss small." How many military, police and private defense instructors recommend shooting for the head, especially one that is moving?
  21. Not quite a BAR, but I understand they are quite effective at close range! []
  22. I don't see anything offensive about this thread. Am I missing something?
  23. Double whammy. I missed both the most exciting 15 minutes of the series AND the fight. The Wings really turned their power play around with some of that Mickey Redmond bingo-bango stuff though. Great game overall. What say you, Wings fans? Would you take a game 6 loss with a game 7 win? Was 1997 the last time they won it at home???
  24. DKP, What brand of holster is that and how well do you like it? I have been thinking about getting one but with all the brands it's hard to tell. Thanks in advance. James I have a Com III (I think it's the III, anyway) which is made by a company specializing in holsters and belts. Website is: www.hbeleatherworks.com Here is a link to a thread that may be helpful to you. There are tons of pics showing most every variation of ways to carry. The second is a forum with tons of information in it. http://www.defensivecarry.com/vbulletin/defensive-carry-holsters-carry-options/28114-lets-see-your-pics-how-you-carry-concealed.html http://www.defensivecarry.com/vbulletin/defensive-carry-holsters-carry-options/
