  1. If you are going to use this set up for music listening also then go with the speaker you like best. If you like Cornwalls better there are probably forum members who want a single center channel La Scala. I run 3 La Scalas up front with KLF 20s for surrounds and it is great!! The only thing the movie theaters beat me on is a huge screen cause my sound is better than at the movies. If you like Cornwalls they would sound great with Home Theater also just go with the same 3 speakers up front. One mistake I made was my left and right LS are 2004 model and my center is a 1976. The center was being used in Houston at a church and they had added some things to the crossover to use it as a PA speaker. So it had a very old crossover and for music the sound did not mesh together very well. I got Bob(BEC) to build me a new crossover which helped improve the sound on music but it still does not have the sound I want. I may have to order the half the upgrade package from Klipsch, which I think is a crossover and new midrange and tweeter drivers. Now for home theater I cannot tell a difference. Vocals are excellent no matter how loud the rest of the speaker are! So try and have the same type of crossover in all 3 speakers. Then enjoy!! Xman
  2. Using the digital out sounds harsh to me I like analog better. Analog to me sounds fuller, smoother more lifelike. Try both and see which one you like better. I have a NAD C542 CD player and a Denon 2900 DVD player and the CD player with a good recording sounds much better than the DVD player. But a bad recorded cd sounds better on the DVD player. Xman
  3. Congrats on the Heresies those were my first Klipsch also!! But be WARNED once you start down the Klipsch path the next thing you know you will have to have Cornwalls, La Scalas(I'm at this stage), or KHorns!! Enjoy!!! Xman
  4. I like your choice in CD players!! I have the NAD C542 and it makes my La Scalas sound great!! Xman
  5. I have a NAD C542 CD player that sounds great with my La Scalas so their other gear should sound great also. Find a NAD dealer and leave a deposit on one of the demo models and take it home for a day or two and try it in your system. If they won't let you do this then don't buy from them. I've done this on the C540 and the Jolida CD player both from different dealers. Xman
  6. moquito welcome to the forum and this forum is a great place to get info on Klipsch speakers and the equipment to run them. Xman
  7. Didn't see any pics so. Xman
  8. I really need a bigger house to really cut lose with the La Scalas for music. I'm now more concerened with the quality of the sound than how loud it can get but a bigger room would help the La Scalas. When I was in my early 20s my best friend used La Scalas in his DJ business. It did not matter if he put them in gymnasiums, dance clubs, just about anywhere and they sounded incredible, filled anyplace with full, rich, beautiful sound!! Now for anyone who wants a excellent all around speaker for a small to medium living room find a pair of KLF 20s and for music run them with a good preamp and amp!! They sound great with both SS amps and tube amps. Xman
  9. I work nights and do most listenig from 3:30 AM to 7:00 AM. So having tone and a loudness controls is very helpful. I use the loudness button and keep the volume at a level so that a person sitting on the couch next to me would have to raise their voice to talk to me but not scream. When I take the loudness off and set the tone controls to 0 the sound is thin and lacking in bass. Now I could turn up the volume to levels that would give me neighbor madning bass but I prefer to get along with my neighbors. My living room is 15 X 15 X 8 and the La Scalas overpower me when I go past the listening point I described. I own a Luxman int amp used as a preamp with a Cayin TA 30 tube int amp and the Luxman has a EXCELLENT LOUDNESS button. Even if I had a larger room TO ME with the loudness on the sound has a fuller, richer sound and I'm not about trying to get it to concert leveles anymore but the best sound possible. It might have to do with the fact that some people say La SCalas lack any low bass and the loudness helps a little with that. No one on the forum can convince me that my music sounds better without the loudness using my system in my current living room and I cannot tell others that their music would sound better with tone controls. Whatever floats your boat: tone controls or not it's all up to each of us and what we like. With the right equipment I may not need tone controls. I'm saving my pennies to try a Juicymusic Peach to see how much better it sounds than my Luxman. I may just need to get a couple of VRDs to go with my Luxman and when I get a bigger house then get a peach. Xman
  10. I replaced my KLF 20s with 2004 La Scalas and the KLF 20s in a small living room are better speakers IMHO. My living room is 15 X 15 X 8 and the La Scalas sound very good even better than the 20s. The LS sound better at mid volume levels, you can talk to the person next to you but you have to speak up but turn the volume up more and in my living room the LS overpower me. With the KLF 20s I could crank them up and not hear the person screaming at you and not be overpowered by them. I'm using the 20s as my rear speakers and feel realy bad cause it feels like they should be used up front since they sound so good! But for home theater 3 La Scalas up front, KLF 20s as rears, and a RSW 12 movies sound better than the theater. If I was going to stay in this house for the rest of my life I would sell the La Scalas and go with the 20s. Xman
  11. Timmikid I just noticed you have Herieses so this type of riser would not really help your speakers. Before La Scalas I had KLF 20s which had the mid and tweeter horns at ear level. So when I got the La SCalas the horns were aimed at my chest. So I heard the highs more so than the mids that is why I built the risers. In your case you need to sit on your couch, listen chair, etc and measure from the ground to just above your eyes. Then subtract the hight of the Herieses and either find something in your house that is about that hight to put the Herieses on or build a basic pair of riser and see if you like the sound. The easiest thing is to find something in your house. I used wooden crates for my herieses for about ten years and then bought the KLF 20s. This is a small crate I made for my SB3s. Xman
  12. I took 2 x 4s and cut them so I could make a 2 foot by 2 foot square and then braced the inside with two or three 2 x 4s and then put a 2 foot by 2 foot 3/4 inch thick piece of plywood on top and put my La Scalas on top. You can then by more plywood sections and slide them under to raise the La Sclals up higher to see what hight you like best. Once you find the hight you think the sound is the best then you can make a nice pair of risers. Mine are very crude but work. I can work alot so I have not made a nice pair yet but I will. Give it a try for me and Tofu helped tame the highs. Now don't expect a huge night and day difference but it will help. A lot of other things can help also. Xman
  13. These are only DVD Audio: First anything done by Silverline should sound very good!! I'm going to start with the best sounding ones I have(my opion) you may not like the style of music but of the 30 or so I have these are the best sounding. Title 1. Silverline--Inside the MUsic New Age-- 2. Silverline--Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band XXL--Big Band music 3. Silverline--Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band Swingin For the Fences-Big Band 4. DTS International --Music Experience Esteban Enter the HEart 5. DTS international--Blue Man Group Complex- very good bass DVD 6. DTS International-Music Experience Les Brown & His Band OF Renown-Big Band 7. Telarc surround- 1812 Overture(has DTS, Dolby Digital) 8. Fleetwood Mac Rumours 9. Lyle Lovett--Joshua Judges Ruth 10. DTS--Steely Dan Gaucho are all very good I'll post some more later. Just about anything from Silverline is usually very good. Not sure what kind of music you like but try one of these. Xman Xman
  14. I bought a single La Scala off of Ebay for $300 took my tv stand and put it on top of the La Scala and the tv back on top. Then made a grill cover to hide everything. I had a KLF C7 and for movies it did not match the La SCalas but with music it matched the La Scalas better than the center La Scala. The left and right ones are 2004 and the center is 1976 so I had Bob(BEC) make me a new crossover which helped but There is still a noticible difference when playing SACDs or DVD audio. If I had the money I would order half the upgrade package for a new crossover from Klipsch and see if that would help. The camera I used was a 4 megpxl Kodak EasyShare C330. I got it at Best Buy for $180 plus a 256 mb card and a scandisk for a total of $250. The camera is last years model so the new model probably starts around $250-300. The thing that amazes me about digital cameras is how you can take a pick of something and then zoom in and it is still very clear. This is a zoom in of the right side of my living room from the previous pic. Now if I could get the pics to post with the text. I got it to work once and since then it will not show the pics with the text. I looked at the time it worked and I try the same thing but it doe not work. Must be some setting on my computer I'm not aware of. Xman
  15. Congrats on the Cornwalls!!! There are a lot of people on the forum that can help you with any tech questions. Klipsch speakers need the right equipment to run them and when you find the right combo they sound fantastic!! I own a pair of La Scalas, similar to the Belles but not as good looking. Tube gear seams to match very well with Klipsch but I have also heard solid state sound great too. Welcome to the forum!! Xman
  16. To the right of the tv is a Luxman 100 watt int amp and a Cayin TA 30 int 35 watt tube amp. In the cabinet is a NAD C542 and a Luxamn system selector so I can switch from this 2 channel set up to my home theater preamp, Denon 4800 and Denon 2900. Have 3 La Scalas up front and 2 KLF 20s in the rear and a RSW 12. Hope to get a Peach preamp later this year and 2 VRDs early next year and other than a bigger house to put all this stuff in that is it no more, I'm done upgrading!! Except for the KHorns and the 3rd VRD for the center La Scala, etc, etc, etc!! Xman digtal pics 6 email (2).jpg
  17. In Dec I bought a 2004 Luxman Int amp that has 100 watts. I already had a Cayin TA 30 tube int amp using it as just a amp with a 20 year old Luxman preamp. Bought the new Luxman to mainly use it as a preamp and with the Cayin tube amp it sounds very good!! When I got the new Luxman I tried using it's power section and while it sounded good the Cayin sounded better. I only used the Luxmans power amp for a day so I did not give the amp time to really break in. I know some people don't believe equipment has a break in period and some people do believe but IMHO it does make a slight difference. But a slight difference can improve the sound. Some of it may be your ears adjust to the new equipment and you perceive that as the equipment has finished burning in. When I got my 2004 La Scalas they were bright to me and after 2 months sounded the same. Made 6 inch risers and this helped but until I had the speakers about 4 months after I made the risers did they start to sound better than my KLF 20s did. What's your theory on this subjec? Xman
  18. I've used a Cayin TA 30 tube amp 35 watts with my KLF 20s with very good results. Now I'm using it with La Scalas and my TA 30 has the option to pull 2 tubes out and rebias to 700 and run the amp at 4 watts with good results in the mids and highs but when you turn up the volume the bass is not there with 9 watts it may work. Depends on the size of the room and how loud you like your music also. Xman
  19. Welcome Julie!!! My first Klipsch speakers were Heresies also. Saw them in when in Saudia Arabia while stationed there in 1985 and bought them. Had them for 15 years before upgrading to KLF 20s and now La Scalas. Beware the upgrade bug he will suck all the money from your viens!!! Let us know what you have them hooked up to. Xman
  20. The Jolida sounded better except in the highs. The Jolida sounded like the highs were laid back even when using tone controls. The stock tubes may not present the highs as much as I like them but with tube rolling you can bring the highs up. Also realize when I did the comparision I already owned the C542. If I did not own either one I would go with the Jolida if I could afford it. I payed $525 For the C542 and I did not think the Jolida was that much better to pay another $900 and then resell my C542 for a loss. The Jolida is a better player but if $900 is too much for you to spend then try the C542. For the price it comes in a very close 2nd to the Jolida. Xman
  21. Like I said there are so many things that affect the sound and I did not realize this when I bought my LS. This would take some work but find someone who has a very good stereo and see if you could bring over your speakers. Just make sure it is a bigger room. I know this would take some work but it could give you a idea of what your speakers can do. Or if you can convince them to bring some gear to your place that would give you a idea of how different components can change the sound in your room. Hang in there you can always resale those speakers and get back what you paid for them and try something else! Xman
  22. Sorry did not mean to add to the confusion. Take everyones ideas and if you can try them and they don't work then go with what sounds best to you right now with your set up. I could be in your room and not like the way the speakers sound at the angle you have them but you do like them at that angle and a third person would like it another angle. Hang in there and keep trying and if you get to the point that these speakers just won't work for you then sell them and get something else. My KLF 20s sounded very good with 2 80 watt mono amps and my A/V reciever. Got my La Scalas and they did not sound as good as the KLF 20s. After getting a Luxman preamp and a tube amp and using the risers the La Scalas finaly sound better than the KLF 20s up to a certain volume. When I turn the volume up with th La Scalas to the point you could talk to the person next to you but have to raise your voice a little they sound great! But turn it up past that point and they overpower me. With the KLF 20s I could turn them up to levels that the person next to me could not hear me and they sounded really good much better than the La Scalas. So for ME a bigger room would help and it probably would help you also. Xman
