I would like to find a center to match my system better. I also just purchased a pair of KG 1.5 for rear surrounds but I don't think I need to worry about doing this for them. Does Dean use your existing crossover or use a completely different unit? You speak of having great amps etc. but as you can see I currently only have an AVR-3802 that is by no mean great. My question is with this equipment would I notice a vast improvement or would the change be barely noticeable? Thanks again ---------------- He takes your existing crossovers and upgrades them with top grade capacitors and resitors, he uses only your boards and posts. Everything else is upgraded. To be quite honest regarding your Denon reciever, I am not very fond of Denon and Klipsch speakers, my brother bought a Denon AVR-3805 to try out with his KG 5.5's and KV-3 center channel, it was horrible. The bass was anemic and the highs would drive a ice pick through your skull. On music and movies, the treble was very edgy and we had to turn down the treble -6 on the dial. We returned it a few days later, he is using the Scott 299-C tube amp and it is wonderful!!!
  2. Siesmic Pulse, If you really want the full effect, I would have all 3 of your speaker's crossovers upgraded, the C7's, 4.5 and 3.5's. Trust me, you will notice a big diffrence. Ive had Dean G do my RF-7s, my RC-7 center, my bro's KG 5.5's. You have to try to maximize your speakers and work from there, they are in fact where the final signal is to be reproduced, so it only makes since to focus a majority of your resources into them. You can have great amps and great sources and preamp, but if your speakers arent at the best performance they can be, then you will only get good sound, not Awesome sound!!!
  3. I have personally purchased a set of KG 5.5's from Brett 8 months ago, which are running like a champ in my bro's 2 channel system. He shipped them Via UPS to me, I had Dean G do the crossover upgrades on the KG 5.5's and they sound awesome, really clean in the treble and mids and mega bass from his Scott 299-C.
  4. Carl, I just pull them out with my bare hands, I doubt your fingerprints will have any impact on the tube whatsoever, any residual oil will burn off once the tubes heat up. Let me know how you like you Electro Harmonix KT-90's that you just purchased.
  5. Actually Ive been working on my own brand of cable for a bit, I am calling it Konster Mable brand, it will perform nothing like Monster Cable, in fact 2 out 3 listeners said that "This sounds nothing like Monster cable" I will be selling it strictly to the budget concious consumer, they will be so delighted at the performance of this high end cable. Look for it in local botiques, the slogan will be "This cable sounds nothing like Monster Cable" BTW, I wonder if Monster Cable use's 99.9% OFC stranded or solid core? Hmmmm........
  6. Some stellar guitar work can be found on Alice Cooper's 1987 Album called "Raise your fist and Yell" It features guitarist Kane Roberts, he tears it up with massive solo's, hammer riffs, licks and power chords. Its a treat to listen to with that 80's hard rock sound, its sure to satisfy the solo hungry crowd Here he is
  7. Hell, I use a RSW-15 with my RF-7's, awesome deep bass with plenty of attack and finnesse. Not sloppy whatsover, it is exactly what the RF-7's need in order to sound their best.

  9. Ive been running the RF-7's on the 4 ohm taps of my Dynaco Mark III amps and it is sounding nice so far, it smooths out the highs somewhat and it takes a little more volume to get it as loud as the 8 ohm, but it is smooth!

  11. Dean, What would you recommend for the RF-7's?

  13. Here are some nice 2 channel recievers from the 70's, they are fairly cheap but very high quality and will put out monster sound from the Forte's. Here is a Sansui 9090D 125watts per channel from the mid 70's, this is a monster!!! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=50592&item=5741124540&rd=1 Technics SA-5370 looks to be in Mint Condition. 48watts per channel, which is plenty for your Forte's. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=64610&item=5741444175&rd=1#ebayphotohosting Pioneer SX-990. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=39789&item=5741635943&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=39789&item=5741245465&rd=1
  14. I would highly consider this Preamp, it is made by Audio Experience. The maker is in Hong Kong and a very nice man, I own his Symphonies + preamp and it is a steal for $660 that i paid for it shipped for it from Hong Kong about 7 months ago. Read all the reviews from the following link below and you will see what i mean. Make sure to read each and every review on it, they are all positive. I also recently demoed the Juicy Music Peach preamp for about a week, it was a very well built unit, very heavy and the internals were very nicely laid out and designed. I did a sound A/B between the two and to me sounded about the same, I got about the same bass response, the highs were extremely close. Also, the Audio Symphonies has two preouts for a sub in the future. The Peach only had one preout and I had to use a Y cable if i wanted to hook up my sub, i didnt have one on hand so i demoed it without my sub. http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?aamps&1027189615&openflup&1&4#1

  16. Sweet, glad you got those bad boys in. Have you been jamming any rock on them yet? I would start with Europe - Its the final countdown, followed by Dokken- Dream Warriors to kick the new year off
  17. There is bass dont get me wrong, I never said that there was never any bass. It does have a tight, fast pace to the bass. Its not mushy or flabby boom box bass, its more of a tighter higher octave bass. It does vibrate the walls on certain cd's but it is nowhere near as thumping without the sub, the sub adds a whole new dimension to the bass that is lacking in the very low frequencies, that is what a sub is designed to do anyway isnt it? To fill in where the mains cannot reach or there would be no point to sub in a Klipsch system, Klipsch wouldnt bother making them. I love clean and musical bass, and its all there for the taking. The RSW-15 is just what the doctor ordered for the RF-7's and they need it to pound the walls into submission
  18. Trust me, I have used all sorts of solid state amps on these speakers, Krell 200 watts per channel amp, Rotel solid state 300 watt amp, Marantz 70's era solid state, high current recievers . None ever produced deep thumping bass, its just not inherent of the speaker. It is not designed to handle deep low frequencies, it will handle bass up to a certain point and thats it,Klipsch even recommends the addition of a sub for that purpose. Trust me, listen to you speakers with and without a sub, you will notice a huge diffrence, the amps are perfectly fine and were recently upgraded and rebuilt, so they are not an issue

If your RF-7's require a sub to have good bass, then something is wrong with your amplifier. ---------------- The RF-7's have decent bass, but it is nowhere near having a dual 15" Klipsch sub handling the low frequencies, it's not even close. I listen to lots of Rock and need the thumping clean bass of the RSW-15, it just sounds a heck of alot fuller and deeper. I know what the specs say and the RF's go down to 32hz, but the RSW-15 goes way lower to 19hz, that is a huge diffrence in bass frequency. You dont feel it in your chest or through your whole body like you do with the addition of the sub. I use a tube preamp without any tone controls, so I cannot add in bass. Id rather have the RF's handling the mid to highs and have a workhorse sub for the extrememe lows.
  20. I had the same dilemma, my RF-7's have the same anemic bass. The bass is ok but not earth shattering, so I just bought a Klipsch RSW-15 and boy does it make a huge diffrence, massive wall shaking and ground pounding bass!!! I power my RF-7's witha Tube preamp and two Dynaco Mark III monobloc tube amps running at 60watts each. Klipsch even recommends using the RSW-15 sub to handle the low frequencies, the RF-7 crossover is set way high around 2200khz, it is mainly designed to handle highs and mids, it is meant to be used with a sub to fill out the bottom octaves.
  21. Bill, Youll need to do yourself a favor and get the RSW-15, i have one and it is awesome!! Really compliments the 7's well, mesh together flawlessly. For movies and music it makes a gigantic diffrence!!! Thanks for the info Carl, I have no doubt that it will open up the RC-7's big time. I love watching concert DVD's and Movies and the center plays a big factor, it should clean it up nicely!

  23. Carl, I was wondering, I have an RC-7 myself and was wondering if you noticed a diffrence by upgrading the crossovers on them? I feed my RC-7 with a scott 99-D mono tube amp.
  24. Congrats on your RF-7's!! They are truly an amazing speaker, they should sound wonderful with your Macintosh gear. Definatly talk with Dean G about getting the crossovers upgraded, as is they sound good but with the upgraded components in the crossover section, the speakers really come to life, the mirange and highs become more natural and smooth!
  25. Aviserated, Why dont you pick you up a pair of used 7's??? They will surely do the trick and give you that sound your after!
