  1. Starting is the hard part...no wait, stopping is the hard part...
  2. The problem with all this is it's subjective. I think everyone agrees we should be able to express our opinions - in may cases with passion. I think we'd also all agree there's no need to get personal in this. The problem is none of us will ever see the line between "debate" and "attack" in the same way. Subjectivity can be solved (usually to the satisfaction of only a few) by having one decision maker. This is Klipsch ball game and they can take the ball and go home if they'd like. We have to play within their rules or should go elsewhere, IMHO.
  3. Sorry to hear of your bind. Best of luck -
  4. I'm not so sure. I would think it's hard for the moderator's to monitor every post. When things get out of control (or are perceived to), shutting it down for a couple days may send a better message. Also, you can boot someone off, but that doesn't keep them from coming back with a different ID. I hope this is limited to 2 days and the trouble makers take the hint - if you are that passionate about the cause, then you shouldn't want to screw this forum up for everyone it helps.
  5. Are you looking for an Amp, integrated Amp, or receiver? While it's true you don't need a lot of power to drive Klipsch, more power certainly has benefits (including fuller response at low volumes, in my opinion anyway). I wouldn't personally be looking at anything less than 100W per channel, driven at the same time.
  6. Consistency - never had speakers reproduce the lows, mids and highs so well (most speakers are much better in one range than the rest). Can't argue with any of the other comments either!
  7. Are any of the on-line dealers "authorized"? If so, you should be set. If not, the local guy will probably argue the value of that (why he is charging more). It's worth something, but how much? If they don't match the price, they should certainly approach the on-line price.
  8. How big a problem has this become? I've been actively reading these forums since November and haven't noticed it getting too nasty.
  9. May want to post this to the Home Theater forum. Not sure how many of really HT experts wander into the 2-channel area.
  10. Very nice combo - would love to see a few photo's posted.
  11. "Rotel amps are known to be slightly "rounded" in the high end. In other words, they have some designed in high end roll off to give them their charateristic warm and rich sound" That's correct - I've also heard similar things about the B&K, though they are bit more money. If you can demo units - at home with your own set up - that's always the best option.
  12. " they don't hear this level of precision as commercial parties, or even Imax" We don't have Imax here, and it takes a little while for movies to reach Oman. About 3 weeks ago, Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King made it here. In prep, we watched the first two at home on DVD, then went to the theater. GREAT movie, but I'm not kidding, the sound was better at my house! I know I'm not covering a theater sized room, but no question the sound is better at home. Really made me appreciate the Klipsch even more - not to mention my growing DVD collection!
  13. Good advice. Just starting to look into this, and the juke-box option is starting to get some consideration. I do like the convenience of having more than 1 disc in the unit. I've also been happy with the Rotel equipment and know they have good CD player, but don't want to look too brand loyal (other than on speakers of course). I just noticed your sign-off "EVERYBODY IS SOME KIND OF JUNKY" Man, how true that is and some habits are more expensive than others!
  14. OK, I'm pretty happy with my system now, except for the CD player. I'm running a 5 CD Sony Carousel I got from Best Buy about 3 years ago (probably about $150 at the time - can't recall the model number and I'm not at home right now). I'm using my Denon 2900 for SACD and DVD-A, but don't want to wear-it-out playing CDs, so still use the Sony. It does have the optical digital connected - no co-axel option. What's a good multi-cd player to replace this one (quality wise, comparable to the Denon DVD player, if that makes sense)? I paid around $1,000 for the DVD player, would assume a good multi CD player can be had for $500 or less? Thanks!
  15. I was interested in B&K, but couldn't get them where I live. I went to Rotel as a second choice and have been very pleased. Honestly, if was starting over and had my choice, I'd likely go with the Rotel now. There are cheaper and more expensive options, but you get a lot of bang-for-your-buck with Rotel. Another big plus - the signal-to-noice ratio on Rotel is extremely good (check out the specs compared to others) - I think this is important when you're driving sensitive speakers like Klipsch. All that being said - B&K are extremely nice. May come down to what you get the best deal on.
  16. Congrats - there's no turning back now. When you look at new receivers, may want to also check out separates. You can get some decent separates for not-much-more than receiver prices. You have great speakers now, separate will do them justice!
  17. Buying Klipsch outside the US is a bit different. I live in Oman, bought my speakers in Dubai from an authorized dealer. I found them on the Klipsch web site. Even with all that - they don't offer the same warrenty as in the US. Not sure if Klipsch requires that "on-paper" or not, but assumed they can't force such things even on their authorized international dealers.
  18. OK, probably taking this a different direction than intended, but what is the benefit of "twisted pairs"? I have them on my surround speakers as it was recommended at the time, but can't recall why this was important (noise reduction, if my failing memory recalls - but why?).
  19. Distance really is relative. I live in Oman and had to drive 4 hours each way to get my speakers in Dubai! The 5's are really good speakers - the 7's are exceptional speakers. Personally, I've found I rarely regret stretching to get the better stuff first. When I do go with a smaller option, I end up upgrading later anyway and it costs more overall. I don't think you'll have buyers remorse with either option, but the 7's cost more for a reason - they are the better speaker.
  20. Plenty of power with your receiver. Not sure about how much more you'll get on the low end - some for sure, but how much? Can you demo a pair at home (use banana plugs and switch back and forth to test)? Alternatively, if you're only really concerned about more low-end, how about a sub?
  21. I missed it too - good call bring it back under control though. People come here to get help and share what they learned - no reason to get blasted for that!
  22. The Rotel 1066 is very nice - and as already noted - very quiet! There are only 2 optical, but I think there are 3 Coaxel inputs (if I recall correctly) giving you 5 digital inputs. A recent chain here seemed to concluded that coaxel was at least equal to, but likely "better" than, Optical. The unit also has analog inputs for SACD and DVD-A. It was very easy to set up - more intuitive than many others I've seen. Finally, I read some mixed reviews on the universal remote it came with, but I now run all my components with it and it works really well - no complaint from me. Good luck!
  23. That should work, but may be overkill (14 gauge at 50 feet would be fine - IMHO).
