  1. Sorry to disappoint some of you but I have no ties to SVS. I to am one of those who felt that SVS was all talk and had plants on every forum. Curiosity finally got the best of me and I ordered one. I have owned too many of the well knowns and always felt that there was better available. I have RF7's, RC7 and RS35's so yes I am a Klipsch lover. I too get upset when I hear the anti Klipsch crowd talk about them being bright or forward so I know how you felt about my comments. I say that some of their components contribute to the brightness. Mine are not bright to me or any who have heard them. While I have enjoyed the many pieces of HT equipment that I have owned I have kept an open mind about things that could improve it. The SVS was one of those great improvements. You never know what you have missed if you never try it. I realize that many will defend what they own no matter how terrible it may sound. You are the one who is missing out. Sound is subjective to the listener. While I prefer ultra deep and undistorted sound there are those who prefer the boomy splattered bass sound. Neither is wrong, just different. Thankfully we all have the right to buy as we choose.
  2. lol, the sub-12 is a great sub for the money, but there is no way in the world it can touch the RSW-12, RSW15, or KW-120. And to which velodyne were you comparing? As far as I know, there are only 3 velodyne lines with 15" drivers and I know the DD and HGS series are amongst the top out there... Anyone have a link to the Nousaine subwoofer comparison chart? It hasn't been updated in a while, but a lot of the subs in question are on it. It is a CHT15 which was an excellent sub for the price.
  3. No doubt you will need a good sub to keep up with the 7's. I tried some pretty good subs and settled on a 15" veleodyne. Just before Christmas I got the bug to try something else. I bought a Sub 12 and it is as good as the velodyne at much less cost. It also outperforms the higher end Klipsch subs. This was to hold me over until my SVS 20-39 + arrived. I doubt that I will ever search for another sub after owning the SVS and it does not cost $1000.
  4. Upgrade RF35's to RF 7's for the front mains. New Panasonic DLP. This stuff sure accumulates. I have enough stored away to start a business.
  5. I got a DLP Panasonic (PT-50DL54) on Saturday. Got this stand from CC. I reversed the lower and upper supports to give approximately 12" clearance on the middle shelf. I previously had my RC7 on top of my Pioneer 530HD set. http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Z-Line-Designs-Palisades-TV-Stand--Z241S-/sem/rpsm/oid/82359/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do The overall sound of my system is better with the center speaker at this level.
  6. Marksdad is correct. The RC25 and 35 are no match with the RF7's. I originally bought RC35 with RF35's. The RC35 was a total disappointment so I got the RC7. It is an excellent blend with the RF35's and worth every cent of the cost over the 35. Listen for yourself before you buy. Good luck.
  7. I have RF35, RC7, and RS35's. I was using a Super Cube 1 which was great with my previous Paradigm speakers but not so well with the Klipsch's. I tried HSU from CompUSA, and some 12" subs as well. I called Velodyne and talked to Curt. When I told him that I was using Klipsch he told me that I needed a 15" sub due to the efficiency of the Klipsch speakers. I bought a CHT 15 and I am 120% satisfied. Curt gave excellent advice in my situation.
  8. RCA has a mid line of cables. They are available in every type of inter connet. I use their optical and component cables. I have used many other brands that were more costly and the RCA is as good as any brand that I tried.

easylistener, How much Aragon are you referring to? The Stage One and 2007 are $5500 retail and can be had for around $4500. This is less than some top rated receivers and will sound better. Another point. All too often I read that one receiver or pre/processor/amp plays louder than another. The best electronics that I have heard did not sound louder than the others. They just sounded cleaner. Noise sounds louder to the ears than high quality sound.
  10. Get the Integra. I bought a Denon 4802 last year and it was like other Denons that I have owned. Sound is shallow and thin (almost bright). This was on Paradigm Monitor 11's. I returned it and got the Integra 8.4 and have never regretted the exchange. I now have Klipsch RF35'S. I auditioned them with a 4802 and they sounded terrible. I use them with a Rotel 1066 and Sherbourne 5/1500A. The difference is night and day. The Rotel/Sherbourn sound quality is superior.

One thing I have found is that amps with a high dampening factor perform better than those with low dampening factors. Most receivers do not show this in their specs. I have recently been toying with a B&K 307 as a pre/pro on my Sherbourn amp. The 307 is excellent for a receiver but it's amps do not compare with a seperate amp as the power supply.
  12. Several months ago I visited a shop that specialized in room treatments. One of the products was wooden panels that could be wall mounted or or used on stands in the room. One claim was that the lacquor coating contributed to improving souund. The salesman gave me some free tips. One was to loosen each screw on the light switch and electrical receptical cover by one or two turns. I stopped by the liquor store, got a bottle and went home to try this. After consuming a bottle of Jack I actually noticed that the sound became somewhat muted.
  13. john4618, It is strange that the digital connection would only affect the center channel but if it worked for you then that is good. I would lower all center frequencies from 1khz and higher. I have the same mains, center and surrounds as you. I originally had the RC35 and thought is sounded muffled as opposed to harsh as you described. I traded tor the RC7 and it is excellent to me.
  14. I have owned Sony in the past. I was using an 8xx series at the time and brought an HK home to compare. The Sony cost about $500 less and sounded every bit as good. I later got a 777ES. This may be one of the best receivers ever built. I sold it and got a B&K307 which cost two times as much and was only slightly better. I use another term to describe Denon and that is 'thin'. I have only used the 4802 and higher series. They all sounded thin and bright. My Kenwood 6070 could drive my Monitor 11's to much greater depth than the Denons. I have owned most all receiver brands and have never found any to be perfect. You just have to find the one that sounds best to "you" when used in your system. The search is half of the fun. Firebird, have you considered the RF35's? I listened to the 5's and 35's and ended up with the 35's. I preferred their sound and they cost less. I could get you a deal on them in Nashville if you are ever in the area. I can also get you a Rotel 1066 if you decide on seperates.
  15. I was not aware that CompUSA sold HSU until Sunday. I have heard only good about them so I decided to take a listen. For the price this seems to be a good sub but I was not impressed as I expected after all that I have read. I am giving the benefit of the doubt that the store surroundings contributed to less than stellar performance. It did play loud but sounded very similar to the Velodynes at CC, no better. Loud is not always better if the sound is hollow. Definitive may have high profit margins but there is no way that the HSU outperforms the Super Cube 1. After comparing the SC to the HSU I could not keep a straight face because I am happier with the SC 1. Does Panasonic own HSU?
  16. I do not think that the RC35 would be a good match with the RF7's. I was using the RC35 with the RF35's. The RC35 sounded small, boxy and muffled on movies that were not perfectly recorded in the center channel. The RC7 is much clearer. I actually had to turn the center volume down with the RC7. I also switched between the two in the store and the RC7 was clearly the winner.
  17. I just got the RF35's, RC35 and RS35's. The weak link was the RC35. I replaced it with the RC7 and it matches the rest of the system. I believe that the 5' and 35's are very similar.
  18. I have recently purchased a similar system. I already had the Super Cube 1 sub and I sold the RC35 and replaced it with the RC7. This is my first post and I do not want to begin by starting a flame but I am wondering if you have listened to any receiver other than the 4802 with your set up. A 4803 was used in my demo at the store. I thought that this combo sounded thin and almost bright. I previously owned a 4802 and it sounded the same on my Paradigm Monitor 11's. I would listen to a warmer receiver like Rotel, Marantz, Pioneer or NAD before I reached a decision. Sound is so subjective so all that matters is what sounds best to you but you owe it to yourself to at least listen to as many brands as possible. I use Rotel 1066 and Sherbourne 5/1500A which removes all brightness from these speakers. I doubt that I will ever go away from Klipsch now that I have owned them. Best of luck in your search.
