  1. Guess I've never heard of one. They're going for $600 a piece. http://cgi.ebay.com/Bose-Base-Acoustic-Wave-Cannon-Driver-System-12-Sub_W0QQitemZ9725879866QQcategoryZ3275QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Anybody have any experience? I can only assume it's a commercial installation. Looks kind of cool. I wonder if there are some Bose commercial products that I may like.
  2. Ah, a nicely cast line into the flame lake. And a very well informed poster I might add. Actually, Paul, I had a friend who bought a Trinity sub and it was so weak that I had my tweaters crossed over lower. We ended up using it as a kitchen table with the woofer as a plate.
  3. Why does the black alway have to be negative? Just another way electricity's keeping the black wire down... Them suckaz be always keepin the red wira in da limelight! [:@] Da black wire doesn't sweat it. If he did he would cause a short []

  5. Regarding the previous mention of the CDT-5800c's, I would agree. I have the dicontinued RCR-5's (which are nearly identical to the 5800's, but the 5's have slightly better frequency response and sensitivity, however the 5800's have a directional woofer as well as the tweeter) and test tones to those will make the blinds shake. For anyone who doubts the abilities of a ceiling speaker, 2 eight inch drivers definitely get the job done.

    Need help!!!

The reason I asked for the link (and I think also the reason he didn't give it to me) is because he probably didn't read the entire item description and went back later to realize that the sub wasn't included in the auction. Very common noobie mistake: not reading the whole description plus the fine print. I'll bet you a beer that's what it was.
  8. You were probably deleting from an application that does not use the Windows delete/bin function to send it to recycle. Sometimes when I'm using an image editor, doing ptp or something similar, the application just deletes the file from it's own cache and it never goes to the recycle bin...even if it's permanently saved on my pc but within the constraints of the application running the file.

What's the link to the auction item?
  10. I agree that multiple port tuning detracts from implementing other tricks, however with an enclosure as large and inert as SVS makes them it's not all that necessary to implement the tricks sometimes required on other volume-deficient, under-powered subs.
  11. nope. You're fine. A "y" will only boost your output slightly in the same way simply turning up your sub volume would. Don't bother buying one.
  12. Did you just say that plastic is an accousitcally better product? I'm not sure why some people are so unendingly mated to these Klipsch subs and that they're so "musical." I think in the long run it's just something they say in order to compensate for a competitor's product that can better them in SPL and extension. BTW, if a Klipsch sub is so much better engineered, then why do they cost more and sound poorer? Perhaps they should engineer a solution to that. Dr. Who...not going to argue about it. I just thought you were brighter than that.
  13. Actually, you have it backwards. SVS is exclusively engineering (which is why they're so much better than Klipsch subs for the same price) and very little marketing/overhead. The 12-NSD would lay waste to the RW-12 in output and extension, pure physics. I have no experience with HSU. Not sure what Dr Who meant by SVS resembling DIY. If you mean the NSD doesn't have a pretty plastic glued-on front piece and some fake veneer like the RW, then ok. No offense to Klipsch but the more fancy plastic pieces you snap on to your sub, the less respect you'll get from me. Don't make me pay for that crap. Sorry Dr. Who. It's been a long weekend and I don't mean to be so opinionated. I'll cool down in a few hours.
  14. You typed: "I can afford to buy ANY of the current Klipsch reference systems BUT I cannot afford to buy the THX System (aside from the subwoofer since I am willing to pay up to $4000 for a subwoofer(s)." and "I am downgrading from a $20,000 THX certified speaker system that is better than Klipsch own THX system (but obviously a lot more pricey than Klipsch's system). " Why don't you just sell your $20,000 system and you'll easily be able to afford the Klipsch THX system at less than half that?
  15. Never had a problem with mine. Good and sensetive even with barely audible low freqs. The time delay is 15 min: more than enough.
  16. Phrased that way there's absolutely no way to predetermine what will be needed. For a room of given size, one 12 of a certian brand will be worlds different than another 12 of a different brand, and this goes for all sizes. Also, volume of the room, shape of the room, enclosure size, amplification, furniture, and a thousand other things influence too much to assume. If you want my general opinion with no data, I would say an AVERAGE room size with several openings would not be adequately covered without dual AVERAGE 12" drivers with AVERAGE enclosure sizes and AVERAGE amplification. What you're not taking into consideration is that a 10" Radio Shack sub will cover a closet while a Sunfire 10" sub will cover a living room. Result: There is no equation.
  17. You do realize that your SVS only has a single brace in it, right? It's all .75" MDF construction which is good, The 150+ lbs comes from the sheer size of the enclosure and those hefty Plus drivers. Any-who... [] Actually, it's 1" mdf with a 1" thick brace. Not to split hairs... I think the purpose behind this was that if you added much more bracing or mass then it would be immovable. It would probably have been impractical to build a sub that you can never move without 4 other guys around. It's a pain in the rear to move as it is. You don't need a much more stable enclosure than that.
  18. (sigh.............) The Citation is a fine plane and yes, purdy dern fast. But we fly just as fast and while your X is making refueling stops, we still be flying. Can it do this?? Tom I'm just partial to the Cessnas because that's all I've ever flown. Let me take a Gulfstream out for a few maneuvers and I'm sure I'll like it, too.
  19. Yes. Depending on the model, it can perform some of the computations (speed/direction) pilots need to do on the fly. There are marine and aviation models. They're handy for the civilian pilot who doesn't want to drag his manual computer out of his knee board or flight bag, however military pilots are usually issued time pieces of their own. That's a nice gift. Some of them are not only resistant, but operational to depths of over 1000 ft. I'll trade you my manual flight computer for your new watch if you don't like it.
  20. Sorry, I'm a diehard fan of the powerful Citation X. Nothing can touch her. Isn't she beautiful? With those enormous engines, no wonder nobody can catch her!
  21. That question is about as subjective as saying, "How much house is enough?" In my opinion, it's this simple. Your sub should do 3 things: 1- go as low as you wish (20 hz, etc) 2- transition smoothly from your satellites (similar to number 1 but on the other side of the band) 3- do all of this undistorted at the maximum calibrated output (or a few db's hot to make sure) of your satellites Minus lots of other characteristics like clarity, flat response, etc....Output-wise, if it can do the above 3 things then it's enough sub. Easy.
  22. I used to be the same way. Had a mustang I suped up. After all the heavy metal and costly upgrades it was disheartening to realize you can throw a small turbo into a little japanese front wheel drive and turn a 5 or 6 second 0-60. And it'll last you into 300k miles. Ugh. My mind's made up.
  23. For what you probably pay for the upgrade, you could go down to the local car audio shop and buy "actual" car audio components and have some real sound. It's been over a decade since I had anything in my car, but I do know the difference between "stock premium" and real car audio. Some Alpine separates up front (not the $20 kind you find in your new car) a good Clarion CD player, a couple small amps and a nice RF or JL sub. Replace the weather stripping in your doors and tighten all your loose screws before enjoying. You'll have a nice quiet ride and some nice tunes. Very different sound and environment, but worlds better than "stock premium."
  24. I don't get it. What am I suppose to be looking at?
  25. $50 is a pretty good deal. IT's usually around $40 to take a look at it even if they can't fix it, but will apply it to the cost of repair if it can be done. So it took all of $10 to fix your relay. Hurray!
