  1. Thanks mOOn. It certainly does look like the old speaker tweaks forum.... Good to see a lot of the same old crazy characters still posting here! Rock on legacy Klipsch!
  2. Hello everyone. I've been gone awhile and just now visited the Klipsch forum for the first time in some time. I seem to recall that there was a forum for speakers or speaker tweaks. Something like that. Has there been rearranging of the forums going on?
  3. One of my favorite topics to discuss is music. I would post more often if there was a section devoted to music, without having to look through the movie posts. I'm sure the movie guys would prefer thier own section as well?
  4. The new one from Black Label Society, Hangover Music Vol VI is very good. Anyone that wants to hear some guitar mastery will love this CD. Zakk Wilde is amazing on this release. The songs are all top notch. Anyone that likes old school rock with a new twist must add this one to their collection.
  5. I just listened to the latest CD from the Cure. It's a self titled release. The lack of name is a clue to the lack of direction and relevance of the music itself. What makes this album even more disappointing is that it follows Bloodflowers, released in 2000 and considered one of the best Cure CD's from their collection of great and exceptional releases. If the Cure album disctography was sex, then Bloodfowers was the climax. The swirling, surreal, trip into Robert Smiths head is mostly gone on this album. In Bloodflowers Smith sang of the end of his career with such desperation and intensity and in the process conveyed his inner soul as well or better than ever before. The result was a pinical the bands career. I can't figure out the purpose of this latest release other than to prime the upcoming concert. Disappointing.
  6. The primary reason that I visit/post here less lately is simple. There is too much bandwidth. Too many here are eggar to talk when they have nothing to say. How many threads break down into useless comments that have nothing to do with the topic? How many flames and personal digs does one have to wade through? I wonder why the Klipsch "moderators" don't ban about %30 of the members here?
  7. There are two songs that stand out: From the CD The Cure, Bloodflowers - the song "39". This has got to be the sadest song of all time, ever recorded. Bloodflowers, the latest album by the Cure recorded in 2000, also believed to be the best recording ever by the Cure. Robert Smith in "39", sings with desperation and sorrow unheard since their Pornography album recorded many years earlier. The entire album is an amazing piece of work. Watch out, this album can mess with your emotions like no other that I have ever heard, or heard of. Smith, the king of melancholy From Lynn Andersons album, All The Kings Horses - the song "Long Long Time". To hear Lynn sing this standard is to love Lynn. She has a way of convincing you of every word said in the song. A love gone wrong, sung with the kind of conviction rarely heard. Passion, hurt, emotion, a very good performance indeed. What are some of the sadest songs that you have played on your system.
  8. I recall that two of the best systems that I heard in the late 70's, early 80's used Vegas. Some may want to slam them and the reason may be similar to why some slam Klipsch speakers Vegas tend to over accent the bass. Klipsch tend to over accent the midrange. But, does it really matter? To each his own. If I wanted a rock only system, I would be looking closely at that auction. For classical and jazz, you may want to move on.
  9. Black Sabbath. No question. Iommi is no doubt one of the best guitarists ever.
  10. Congratulations on the 83's. I too have 83 oiled walnut. One fine year I must say!!
  11. Folks that know me are familur with my record purchases and some may wonder what the heck I see in much of what I listen too. After all there are the likes of artists like: Billie Jo Spears Brenda Lee Eddy Arnold Gale Garnett Connie Smith Glen Campbell and on.... and on.... But I just came to the relization that I have 5 Kid Rock CD's and countless others that rock as hard or harder that Kid Rock. Man can he sing with soul! Talk about contrast. How about you? What kind of diversity do you have in your music collection.

I am a victom of the current times. ---------------- Lynn Anderson is a country singer that recorded and performed mostly in the 60's and 70's. Her voice is incredible. A couple of her most well know songs would be Rose Garden and I Dont Want to Play House. I really like her rendition of Johnny Cashes Sunday Morning Coming Down. We are all victim's of current times.
  14. lynnm - you are absolutely correct. I wasn't very specific. So thanks for hte great response. I thinking of the female with the most beautiful voice. I agree with your choice of Sylvia Tyson. Liona Boyd is an exceptional guitarist. Another great, yet perhaps less known classical guitarist is Antigoni Goni. She does a haunting version of Koyunbaba by Domeniconi that is one of my favorite guitar performances. She plays with emotion every bit as well as Julian Breem or Franco Platino.
  15. The most beautiful female vocalist of all time..... and the winner is..... Lynn Anderson. Are there any others on the forum that would agree? If not, then what would be your vote?
  16. The show itself was great. It seems to me that Glen was really enjoying himself and it showed. At some point after recieving the city key, he played Galveston to a standing audience. I believe that this was his first ever appearence in Galveston. Afterwards, I purchased a signed CD of a performance that he did earlier with the South Dakota Symphony. Excellent show, excellent company. I would never have traded the experience for staying at home and listening to my stereo. But, just maybe the show jogged my memory as too how good by home system really is.
  17. Thanks for the ideas about correcting the problem. I'll see what can be accomplished by cleaning and lubing. It will be over a month before I'm in a position to purchase, so it would be nice to get some further enjoyment out of the Yamaha. Not to mention, it's sale, if in operating corrrecly could help towards the upgrade. I'll post the results of the clean and lube. The yard work comes first though.
  18. An interesting thought came across my mind a few weeks ago while a friend and I were watching Glen Campbell perform in Galveston, Texas. I started thinking that he sounded more dynamic and alive on my stereo back home in my living room. But how can that be? The show was in the Grand Opra House, built in 1894. We had come from a wonderful dinner and drinks and Glen was putting on a great show. He received the key to the city from the mayor of Galveston. Now my system is not by any means the end all. But let me tell you, when those tubes and horns are cooking there is some serious music going on. And in fairness to Glen, we were on the second balcony, not the best seat in the house. He was also not accompanied by an orchestra on this show, not to mention most of the audience was an older crowd, so maybe he kept the volume down. But, nevertheless, I was thinking about the better performances in my living room. My system must rock. That can be the only explanation, right? That show made me appreciate my system even more than I previously did.
  19. Hey Josh, thanks for the suggestion. But, I think that I'm going to upgrade past the point where my Yamaha was. I figure the Pioneer would be in the same class. I've been buying so many vinyl albums and there is no end in sight, so I think that upgrading will be a good investment...... actually I haven't listened to many CD's since I've been on the record binge. I have quite a few that I am enjoying now. However, by the time I get my new table, I'm sure that I'll be ready to get back into some vinyl!! The CD's are sounding good though. It's all about the music.
  20. My late 70's Yamaha turntable has finally bit the dust. When the record finishes, the arm lifts up and then moves in over the record label and sets itself down. Next it slides across the record making a sound that one must hear through horns to fully understand. It has happened three times and I think that I can no longer take the risk. I have no choice but to buy a new turntable. I have had a lot of expenses and will wait until I return from Vegas June 11th before purchasing. So, please, I know I have pondered this question before, but I have no choice but to buy a new turntable. What is your recommendation for something in the $250 - $350 range, used? Your experience is always appreciated. Thanks!! Enjoy the music.
  21. It seems that the country genre name tends to lead one to a negative impression. At least it does for me anyway. I personally love many country artists from the 60's and 70's, but wouldn't even think of listening to the current Clear Channel inspired stuff on the radio today. Lynn Anderson is one of my particular favorites, much of her stuff is really good with little of the country twang that many find distasteful. Greatest hits albums rarely present an artist in their best light. In Lynn's case, it probably contains many of the songs of hers that made the country station play lists. Its the other, less popular songs that she does that I enjoy more.
  22. How about this 24bit remaster on CD? http://www.cdconnection.com/bin/nph-main/ZYnap2GE9jHf.b Any idea how it might fair next to some of the best vinyl pressings? How about the label... Emd?
  23. Dee, It looks like I am going to have to stay in town since I am on-call, since another DBA had to travel out of town (to Australia) at the last minute. So, I will have to say that I will not make it. There is a small chance that something will change before the weekend, but probably not. Thank you very much for the invitation..... have a great time, everyone who attends. Brad
  24. I guess with the resonable prices of the used Rega's and Music Hall's, that would be the way to go. I'll keep and eye and ear open and may purchase in the near future. If I purchase a used table with arm and cartridge, is there a reliable way to determine if the cartridge is good or how much life is left on it?
  25. The life can be sucked out of a forum if you over moderate, become overly, politically correct, keep tempers at bay when you want to vent. It seems to me that there is a common interest among us, and that is Klipsch horn speakers. There are also some other common threads besides our speakers. Many of us that enjoy tubes and I think that vinyl is also common. Of coarse there are many differences in equipment and opinion. It is the differences that make the exchanges interesting and keep the forum alive. Once in awhile heated exchanges occur. They make the place interesting and keep things alive. I for one am not sure if this tippy toeing around, watching every word is the forums participants interest, although, definitely it is in Klipsch's interest. We are guests. Maybe the time has come to create a new venue for members of 2 channel to use. I for one have considered footing the bill for a dedicated server and commercial software to start a new forum for horn speakers. Even (politically correctness off) $%#% off's like tubinhard would be allowed in (back on). Am I the only one that has given consideration to a new venue?
