  1. Taz, thanks for the explanation. I understand that since the money has been refunded, there is no real harm done. It makes sense. You mentioned wondering why so many were so quick to judge the seller. Did the seller act within the bounds of the law? Apparently so. Is he within eBay policies? By your explanation it would seem so, but I suppose eBay would be the arbiter of that. Did the seller do the right thing? Absolutely not. The choice to take the merchandise as-is or to take a refund ought to have belonged to Freak. The seller didn't give him that choice, he just reneged on the sale and sent the money back. That sounds more like someone who got a better offer than it sounds like someone who is concerned about Freak getting what he paid for. I can't speak for anyone else on the rush-to-judgment bit, but in my case it's simple -- it just plain smells fishy. I only hope that Freak gets an outcome he's happy with.
  2. Are you serious? I have a black Academy.
  3. I'm not a lawyer, so I don't know. Maybe someone here is. Sorry I can't be more helpful there. Still, if you rattle him, you may end up with your Academy, and at the very least you may scare him into proper behavior for the future. You'll have done your part, that way, to increase the good and decrease the bad in the world. Mostly I'm just angry on your behalf and would like to see you and him both get what you've rightfully got coming.

I understand exactly where you're coming from with this, but I'm not sure what I can actually do. If I say I want the speaker even if it's damaged, and he makes up another excuse, I'm still getting scammed. Is he a piss poor Ebay'er? Yes, probably is considering that it's this sort of crap that angers people because he failed to do his part and properly research his item before hand. I also think he's a COP.....which is sort of funny. It would be funny to show up on his doorstep and demand my ACADEMY. I could notify Ebay, but could they really force him to turn the speaker over? Not sure, don't have enough experience at dealing with Ebay to know. ---------------- You tell him you intend to prosecute for fraud if he does not deliver the unit in one of the two conditions he described, and for the price you agreed. You made a payment for a speaker, not a refund. Make him squirm a little, if nothing else. People ought not be able do do this kind of crap without some repercussions. ANd I agree with Frzn, you neg him on the feedback at the VERY least. You had a deal, and he reneged.
  5. I wouldn't equate a lack of replies to a new post with a lack of people in the situation. Sometimes it takes time for replies to come. I'm using a Velodyne CHT-10 with mine. I'm happy with it. I only bought it because the price and timing were right, and it was right there in front of me at Circuit City. If I'd known about SVS at the time I might have tried one of theirs. I think most of the mega-chains will let you return them for refund within a set time. You could use that to your advantage by buying one, trying it, and returning it if you don't like it. If you have a local boutique shop you ought to be able to do an in-home audition as well. Almost forgot to mention, you can get a LOT of used sub for $500. Research a model on eBay, be patient, and try to pick one up at the bottom of the range. You can always resell it if it turns out not to be your cup of tea.

Northward for me.
  7. Well heck, m00n said everything I wanted to, and he did it as well as I could.

The learning curve for anything Unixy sucks. There is little that doesn't suck about Mac OS < X, and there is plenty that still sucks about X. (We could start with file system organization.) Windows has a new security problem every few days -- almost everything my firewall blocks is either a compromised MS machine looking for new victims, or someone trying to compromise an MS machine and create a new victim. You just have to find the one that is least bad for you. I make money working on all of them. Variety is good for me.
  9. Freak, I still say you demand he send it as is. You bought is as is, yes? You can fix it cheaper than you can get another one. Then maybe you like it better than your C7, or maybe you want to flip it. You could make a friend a great deal and STILL come out money ahead. Fact is, you bought it, paid for it, and now by all rights it is yours in all but possession. The choice to take possession of it or not really should lie in your hands, not his.
  10. I'm with these fellers. Everybody always has a big "YOUR BID IS A CONTRACT" in their auctions -- I see no reason for that street to only run one way. Tell him he committed to sell it to you, as is, at the price named, and tell eBay about it if he balks. Hell, tell eBay about it anyway.

Apple is much better since they started using linux.... granted... I honestly think linux is a much better system compared to windows... since apple is based on linux. I can't deny I think apple is a very secure and great system. Problem I have with a Apple PC, is why not just go linux.... its free.... Secondly, why go Apple when all you get is less than one tenth the products that appear on a windows machine.... Apple's problems are not with its operating system or its hardware... it is with its software....... ---------------- Apple does not use Linux. Who told you that? They use Darwin, which is an amalgamation of FreeBSD, NeXT, and OSF 2.2 or something like it. Linus has nothing to do with anything in the Mac. I know you're currently a computer major, so you're young and full of ideas. Let me give you a really useful idea. The machine is a tool. So are hammers and wrenches. There are some things for which a PC is better, and there are other things for which a Mac is better. There are other areas in which neither is clearly superior -- office apps, and basic email/web surfing come to mind. For that matter, those functions are handled just as well by a basic Intel/AMD system with $FREE_OS on it. Finally, you've got your high end apps -- big databases, big file servers, really high end vido (Pixar et al.) Now you're talking commercial UNIX -- Sun, etc. All this platform and OS evangelism is just that. Mac vs PC, Windows vs Linux, whatever. It's a religious issue. Use the right tool for the thing you want to do. I use $FREE_OS. My wife uses Windows. My mom takes her eleven foot pole and shoves the computer out of her way, but if she HAD to use the Internet for some reason, I'd get her a Mac. It does the best job of making the computer transparent and exposing the usefulness of the programs a person wants to run. I wouldn't get a Mac for someone whose main thing is Quake or Unreal, and I wouldn't put a PC on someone's desk whose main thing is publishing with InDesign and Illustrator and Photoshop. My US$0.02, FWIW.
  12. Thanks guys. They seem to be fairly readily available and also fairly reasonable, and I thought they might make a good starting point for a foray into separates. One of them would satisfy my two-channel needs -- especially since two channels is all I really have space and equipment for right now anyway -- and I'm thinking adding more of them to make up the HT would get decent bang/buck. Since it's not practical to audition them here, though, I'm glad for the feedback.
  13. Please do. I've yet to find a linux I like, but I never tried out Suse. I'm very happy with FreeBSD, though.
  14. Especially if anyone has used or heard something like the ST-140 or its ilk on Heresies or Chorus II's. Thanks!
  15. I'm surprised nobody's touched on variable-bit-rate (VBR) encoding. With a good encoder like LAME, you can set a max rate of 320, a min rate of (say) 128, and tell it that silence=zero bps. You'll get darn near the quality of 320 kbps, but your average bit rate will usually fall between 160 and 192. You get about the same sound for about half the storage. There's a nice GUI front end for LAME on Windows -- RazorLAME. It doesn't get much easier.
  16. I don't mean to dog you, but I'd rather have you annoyed at me than annoyed at your blown amp. Have you metered them yourself?

I'm starting to think the Heresy would be a better timbre match with my Chorus II's. ---------------- Heresies and Chorus II's don't sound remotely alike. Maybe Heresy II's are closer, but I don't have any of those to compare. Your best match to your Chorus II is going to be more Chorus II's, Forte II's, Quartet II's, or an Academy. If I didn't already have an Academy I'd be looking for a pair of Quartets -- one for a rear center, and one for a Frankenquartet front center. IMO, YMMV, etc.

Looking forward to hearing the differences with them compared to my RF-5II. Joe ---------------- Please do yourself a favor. Insist on double boxing, even if it costs more. Insure the entire package for all costs involved. UPS = Unlimited Potential for Screwups. The man in brown has no regard for your stuff.
  21. If I hadn't just gotten a box of lumber made of Chorus parts, I'd ask you to ship them. Then you could say "No," just because it feels so good to do that sometimes.
  22. Sorry I don't have anwsers for your questions, but congratulations on getting a great pair of speakers. I've had mine about thirteen years now, and if I have my way they are life-long members of the family.
  23. Chorus II's routinely go $835 to $950 plus shipping on eBay, depending on condition and bidder determination.
