  1. Interesting article regarding ventilator alternative sources. https://www.asme.org/topics-resources/content/coronavirus-update-engineers-to-the-rescue?utm_source=ME&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=03302020_ME_Newsletter&utm_content=SEG0010198&asmepromo=MER0018979
  2. You now have the opportunity to get everything you need (design materials and software) to build the Medtronic Puritan Bennett 560 ventilator. https://www.medtronic.com/content/dam/medtronic-com/global/Corporate/covid19/documents/permissive-license-open-ventilator.pdf https://www.medtronic.com/us-en/e/open-files.html
  3. FWIW, 18 days ago I was nearly done ripping my CDs to FLAC files for my Raspberry Pi DAC project that I was planning to bring. Took me several weeks to rip around 1400 CDs (lost exact count), but I finished just before we were thwarted by the Wuhan virus!
  4. Pete, come September, I hope you can repeat that post, word for word, and it all be exactly like that!
  5. It's hard for me to picture Clapton as a 75 year old guy. I saw him in '85 (Behind the Sun tour) and in the mid 90's (Nothing but the Blues tour - had a 6th row seat for that one). Those were two of the most enjoyable concerts that I have seen.
  6. I'm not sure that UV can effectively penetrate into the fibers of the mask.
  7. That would be Gamma sterilization, and it is still used for a lot of things, including some fruits and vegetables. This would effectively resterilize masks, but probably could not be used to resterilize more than once or twice since it damages plastic and elastomers. It is also about a 16 hour process, and there are only about a dozen facilities in the US that can do Gamma. It works by exposing the devices (or veggies) to Cobalt 60.
  8. Get well soon Rudy. Since we are at war with Covid 19. Must be played loud.
  9. The undiluted Everclear (95%) evaporates so quickly that it may not have enough contact time with pathogens to kill/deactivate them. The 80% solution diluted with water tends to dry out the skin. Its OK to use it in a pinch, but the 80% dilution using the aloe gel leaves the skin feeling better.
  10. Hate to hear this. Prayers for a quick recovery.
  11. If you have tried to find bleach recently, like TP it is generally unavailable. Lowes, Albertsons, Walgreens and CVS all had empty shelves. Then I went to my local pool supply store. They had liquid chlorine containing 12.5% sodium hypochlorite (household Clorox is about 6%). They would only sell by the 4-gallon case. So I now have the equivalent of 8 gallons of Clorox.
  12. I carry a 3 oz spray bottle with 80% ethanol in my pocket at all times, even when at home (made by diluting Everclear from the liquor store). The spray bottle is the kind used to spray a fine mist for cleaning eye glasses. It provides good coverage without completely soaking the surface being sprayed. Pretty much anything that comes in from out of the household gets sprayed , especially cell phones. Door knobs get it pretty often too. Essentials that I need to pick up get sprayed down, except for things that can be washed like canned goods and bottles. I made an 80% ethanol solution that contains an aloe based gel for sanitizing hands.
  13. I received an Amazon delivery yesterday, not shipped from an Amazon warehouse, but directly from a vendor via USPS to my mailbox. Return address was in Brooklyn, NY. Just great! Outer packaging went straight to the outdoor trash can. Contents went to the back corner of the garage for at least a week. Over reacting? Or should we assume all mail and every delivery is infected, regardless of the source?
  14. Since it is international whiskey day I'm having a dram of Old Pultney whisky and I'll follow that with a shot of Buffalo Trace.

    Vaping

The word "cool" does not come to mind when I see someone vaping. I wonder if a Coronavirus-infected person who is vaping becomes more or less contagious to others?
  16. When I saw the news that he had died, I mentioned it to my 19 YO son. He just said "who is that?". A lost generation.
  17. The way it broke up sounds like tempered glass. Maybe it had residual stresses, and maybe you made a slight impact when lifting the top glass. The sniper theory crossed my mind also, as well as the haunted cabinet theory.
  18. The virus is hard to take out with a shotgun. A drone on the other hand.....
  19. I'm not sure which is more frightening, the virus or the spy drones.
  20. The elevated benzene levels there will probably kill the virus.
  21. Well, I just saw this pastor on TV today. He is planning on at least 1000 attending on Sunday.
  22. And Montgomery county does yet not have a shelter in place mandate. Most of my family lives there. I talked to my sister yesterday, and she said most people were moving about as if things were normal. My elderly parents, both 85, live in that county.
  23. Dallas county entered a mandatory shelter in place lock down at midnight last night. Tarrant county (Fort Worth) starts tonight at midnight. Interestingly, liquor stores are on the list of essential retail.
  24. The arrogant politicians just cannot help themselves when they see an opportunity to move the needle towards their ideology. We are expendable poker chips in their game to gain more power for whichever side they are on. It is immoral, just as much or more as dumping their stock based on privileged information. It's sickening, the whole lot of them should be replaced.
  25. I guess they missed the part that says "For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them."
