  1. Anyone out there bidding on any of the empty La Scala cabinets currently on e-bay if so lets talk and see if we can come to an agreement I need only one.
  2. OK I have tried several DVD's, I don't know if I indicated this before but the standard run of the mill movie type Surround Sound DD or DTS encoded DVD does not cause the problem it only occurs on DTS CD's and on a very rare instances when DD is broadcast via my digital cable box but it does not always happen when the multi-channel formats via the cable box are in play. I have played a number of different DTS CDs and it always happens when I play them. The player is nearly brand new and the lens is clean and the discs are not even minutely scratched.
  3. Two names arto and q-man should be able to answer these questions definitively
  4. OK I swapped the optical cable and that had no affect. Its either the Receiver or the DVD player I am leaning towards the DVD unit but I'll have to remove it and take it back to Good Guys to see if the problem follows it in their floor set up. Its a cheapo combo unit so I would not be surprised if it is the DVD player.
  5. I own La Scala's and they are a superb loudspeaker but you are not comparing equals here. A fair comparison would be Belle Klipsch and La Scala. But the Klipschorn is the undisputed king of this world. I can tell you if you are going to run a set of La Scala's with SET amps you will be astounded, flummoxed and befuddled at how great they sound but compared to the Klipschorn they are a smaller sound. I will one day own a set of Klipschorns but untill that day my La Scalas will keep me smiling. If you want big and I mean big sound but dont have the requisite corners the La Scalas will not disappoint you. But if you have the corners and can get the Klipschorns you will be in horn heaven.
  6. Greg, After seeing your grillwork I may well steal your idea entirely when I do my three La Scala's. Your work is exceptional, I mean those look fantastic. WOW I have always liked the look of the La Scala but what you have done those four that you Oak Veneered WOW.
  7. Well their value is subjective. As stated before e-bay seems to set the used market vaue, based on their condition and demand. I would say 700-1150 is about what I have seen. As already recomended do a search and take a look.
  8. "J, Good advice, but if you want to make and keep friends, please don't recommend buying an Academy as a good match for Heresies. I had an Academy between Heresies, and I put the Academy away. The Heresies are better off without it. Now Chorus and Forte types are another story." Was not aware I was making or losing friends. Hmmm I guess some of my posts in the general forum awhile back may well have taken me off of the Christmas mailing list again. I hate it when I do that. Yeah I know Forte's and Choruss are a much better match to the Academy, I was just thinking of his placement problem. The obvious choice is the Heresy thus keeping the timbre match solid.
  9. Yeah, I have Heresys. Should I go Heresys all the way around? Including center? Yep!!!
  10. Hi, are you using the optical or digital coax connections? Both This symptom has occurred using two separate sources. MY cable box uses Coaxial Digital cable and the DVD player uses the optical cable. I have not noticed the problem playing DVD's just DTS CD's and a couple of times when DTS signal is provided from my cable box. Does your CDP have any analog output RCA jacks? - Try those. I use the RCA for standard CD's played using my DVD player with no problems. The problem occurs when I play DTS encoded CDs primarily. I remember a thread from a while ago, that mentioned similar symptoms but I didn't follow it, and I can't locate it. Bad/damaged cable?
  11. Piranha - Hmmmm....I have never seen a pair of mint La Scala for $100, have you? If I ever did, I would jump on them in a NY minute. That would be way too slow all you would see would be my purchase receipt. garymd - well said!
  12. Based on my experiences with La Scala's they are not sent out in matching pairs with sequential serial numbers. They are usually raw or lacquered birch, or black stained lacquered birch cabinets and there is no care taken to match the wood grain so no need to match serial numbers. Mine are from 1984 and have a disparity that is fairly large in the serial number sequence as well. They still sound great. If you want em ...Get em...cause one thing I know is you'll love em!!!!!
  13. Maxg, OT Sorry for the hijack - Which Belgium shepherd do you have, Malinois , Groenendael, Tervueren or a Laekenois? Jim PS: - Didn't see it but for those of us at sea level do those cables come pre-corroded to match salt air corrosion as well?
  14. Pink Cornwalls ...white Heresy's maybe they can be set up in a Good N Plenty HT!!
  15. TCB, I understand your opinion I would not have spent 3G either but I did not bid on them. On this issue your opinion, mine and anyone else not directly involved in this transaction is moot. They were immaculate but way too pricy for me but obviously not for the buyer. After all is said and done the only two people who have to be satisfied in this instance is the seller and buyer end of story. So why get upset over it?
  16. OK phantom mode is nice but I found I preferred a center even a lesson center as a time filler. In some cases up to 70% of the movie soundtrack is played through the center channel so IMO it is a critical component in order to get a properly balanced, calibrated HT. You could consider an Academy center if you can find one but they are pretty pricey on e-bay. I agree the best option is to make your front array as close to identical as possible. You could get another Heresy but you would have to solve the placement issue. They were designed to stand vertical not horizontal although I have read a number of posts where people who have tried a horizontal Heresy center and really liked it. As for me I would place it vertical below the TV set if you can, but angle it up. Next vertical above the TV angled down, I would also try to lower the TV to keep the center speaker as close to the same sound plane as your mains. You would have to try the different options to see what you like no way around that.
  17. As you can see the Heritage is a cherished sound. I agree with the others don't sacrifice you K-Horns and Belle unless you are going to give them to me. You can fill with Heresies or Cornwalls and have a spectacular sounding array for both HT and multichannel music. I would go to the extent to say that the Heritage is the overwhelming choice especially for multichannel music. The Reference is a great sounding system but the Heritage is still the flagship of the Klipsch collection.
  18. EDIT Nevermind I just re-read and saw you tested both speakers through your high pass filter
  19. You are a gifted and talented man. Your work looks beautiful. When I build my La Scala Center I am going to steal your idea for the bracing and grill in the bass bin. I am going to end up re-finishing 3 La Scalas and I may well brace all three bass bins but will probably only put grills on the one I spilt. Again exceptional work. Thanks for sharing your progress.
  20. That looks like a knock off not a real Klipsch. The tweeter is oriented wrong no signatures. The picture of the label and the picture of the speaker look like maybe two different speakers, one looks like cherry and the other maybe light cherry could just be lighting but I would steer clear of it.
  21. I have an odd problem with my Yamaha RX-V3300. When I play DTS CD's I get an aperiodic "skip" in sound. It has also happened when I played movies via my Digital cable box on a few occasions. It almost sounds like the DTS Decoder is being overdriven or cannot sample fast enough and I get a fraction of a second of a "skip" in sound. Although I believe the DTS decoder in the DVD player handles the decoding on these discs. But since it has happened with a second source input I am a little perplexed where the source of the problem is. I know the obvious answer is to take it in and have it looked at. Its still under warranty but I hate to remove the thing and be without it. Has anyone experienced a similar problem?
  22. Yep I agree check your connections on your xover and tweeter. As for your tweeter filter leaking Mid frequencies...I would suspect your mid range would play them too, unless you had an odd change in impedance down to that/those frequency/ies through the filter, but if that were true I would expect you would here it when ever that/those frequency/ies was/were present and you said you do not notice ant under "normal" conditions. A diaphragm yeah if it was damaged it could distort; to me your description a little odd but that could just be me. I would expect a damaged diaphragm to offer distortion consistently.
  23. On 5/20/2004 11:28:52 PM basse wrote: It looks like I have to go for the Rotel RSP-1068 and a RMB-1095 since the dealer couldnt get the Yammy Z9 before August. Who can wait that long?! Well, I have to buy it then.... We can all bow our heads for a moment of silence for basse. Shame you'll have to just put up with that heh?
  24. Dean that is not a Corssover on a PCB that is a PCB sandwich with componets for bread. LOL! Nice work they look great.
