  1. To me it seems like, I've been going off in 10 directions at once in trying to build up my new 2 channel system. My HT system followed a fairly straightforward progresion and worked out fine. Here's mostly the way I've gone about it so far. Tried to do this in a fairly logical way but I've reached a point where I'm wondering which step to take next or if I should have done it differently. Anything missing, should I change the order? I know this may seem kinda basic, but when I think about the dough and time involved a simple guideline might be in order. 1. Speakers (done) 2. Amp/Receiver (Scott 299 being rebuilt by Craig) 3. Room (done what I can) 4. Decent wiring and interconnects (done) 5. Minor tweeks (partly done) 6. Line Conditioner (done-thanks Leo) 7. Source (not done) 8. Updgraded Crossovers (not done) 9. Fancy Interconnects (undecided on weather it's needed) 10. Start all over again! PS. Not trying to start up the interconnect battle just not personaly sure yet.
  2. What are you going to do with all those spare Cornwalls you've got lying around? (heh, heh, heh) Just so you know I have over 200 posts, am a Leo and.... Hey, get out of here you guys! Stop that! I saw them first! WAIT, WAIT... (sounds of breaking things and trampelling hordes)
  3. Ok your now all on double-secret probation and I've notified your draft boards. One of my top five alltime favorite commedies. Not amking this up but saw this in the theater when it ws first relesed and I actually fell into the aisle I was laughing so hard. My stomach muscles hurt for two days. I also saw Otis Day and his band at a local place a few years ago. There was no such band until the movie and a few years later Otis put a group together and start touring, you guessed it mostly college campuses. They sounded pretty good too!
  4. As SCP53 indicated firt try other outlets and reverese the amplifier/receiver plug if it's an old two prong power cord. Make sure your power cord is not laying right next to or on top of your spekaer and /or rca cables. Then try switching the rca plugs from the receiver to the cd player to another input on the back of your receiver/ampifier. Don't try to run the cd player off the phono input, because it's different, but tape, aux etc. will do. Also if the reciever has a fuse check that. Then if the receiver has a and b or main and secondary inputs for the speakers try switching the speaker wires to the secondary system. If the hum still persists then the problem could be in the receiver, or it could simply be that the power company did a bad repair and and the hums comingfromoutside the house. Also give us some specific info on the particulars of your system. There's far more knowledgable folks here than me that can give you assitance if you give them info on your system.
  5. Opps. Sorry if I screwed up. I read the ad and noted the dog reference, but I still thought somebody might be interested and thanked Hupple for posting it. Thought Neo was being a little short with the guy and thought I was teasing Neo in a nice way. My apologies to Neo and welcome aboard Hupple.
  6. Do this one more time and sending Mrs. Smith by. You haven't met here yet, have you?
  7. Welcome. You'll like it here. Thanks for providing the heads up. Obviously it's up to the potential buyer to determine overall condition and whether they want to part with their hard earned bucks. There's always people on the hunt and there might just be somebody in the St. Louis area looking for just this very thing. Hang out, don't be afraid to ask questions or join in. If they can tolerate the likes of me and Neo, you'll be more than welcome. Neo: tsk, tsk. Manners, manners. I'm sending Mr. Smith by to have yet another talk with you.
  8. One again it's time to let us know what your listening to and think other members might like. Don't forget to tell your friends in the Forum what we're dong here. Rules are simple: Name of Individual/Group, Title, type of music as best you can (rock, classic etc.) and weather its's a cd, lp etc. Keb' Mo' self titled. I think's it's his first cd and is put out by Okeh Records. Primarily Delta Blues. Wonderful voice, powerful acoustic blues guitar and well recorded. Sounds a little bit like Taj Mahal with his sense of mood and gentleness.
  9. Tom, sounds lie your sister can really carry a tune. Music to me almost always evokes an emotional response. Tears, oh yeah, and I can't begin to remmeber how many times a song has given me goosebumps or conversly, a lump in my throat.
  10. "I've been with hundreds of men, again and again, and now I'm tired". Liilie von Stoup I actually own the Good, The Bad and the Ugly soundtrack. (remastered by Columbia Records) Coolest things are the liner notes. There are none. Just three closeup pictures of the squinting eyes of Clint Eastwood. Eli Wallach and Lee von Cliff. The music for the dramatic gunfight is called "Il Triello" (the trio) and features one of the best trumpet solos I've ever heard.
  11. Marvel, thanks for the link. Downloaded the software and what a great little program. Not only can you find substitutes but links to sights that have info on the particular tube your looking into. Now all I need is a virtual tube tester!
  12. Paint in black by the Rolling Stones,. Middle of June 1967.
  13. Sounds pretty cool. I'll add it to my list of things to buy. I'm picking up all sorts of great suggestions down here. Make sure you drop a few into the weekly music suggestions box we've put together down here.
  14. I'm calling in from a truckstop on the Jersey Turnpike. Ran out of gas and music. Got the gas, but I need more tunes. The girls are into what you've suggested and loved the Wanderer, but now they're getting restless and starting to flirt with the truckers.
  15. It suddenly drops down 20 degress in temeperature and "Hell Freezes Over" suddenly sounds like the Big Chill. I wish some fairy comes along, taps her magic wand over my KG's and turns them into Khorns.
  16. The temperature will dro dramatically as a cold front Canada moves through dropping 1/2 foot of snow. I wish Halle Berry would come for a visit.
  17. Bump. What. Nobody knows any Westerns here. Hell, at the minimum how about some tv show songs like Palladin, Wagon Wheel, the Rifleman. Movies, what about "Gary Owens", Blues Brothers etc. Working on an eight figure movie deal here. I intend to share. Help me out here.
  18. All right enough chit, chat. We're talking '50 and early 60's tunes here. How about something from the Shirelles. the Sha na Nah's, Mitch Ryder, Elvis, etc. Funny tunes accepted such as "If you Want to Be Happy for the Rest of Your Life... The twins are ready for me to crank up the car and go cruisin, bu they're looking really bored right now. That can't be a good sign. My eyes are bugging out and I'm nervously twitsting my tie. I',m turning into Rodney Dangerfield in front of your eyes. Get me some respect, here!
  19. Yes its a two for one Friday night here at music central. Not only are the twins hitting the road with us, but earlier this week I got a call Steven Spielberg. Says he wants to produce Shootout at the Klipsch Corall, and Ron Howards name is being bandied about as the director. So Ive fleshed out the initial post and am halfway through finishing up the screenplay. Only problem is, though, its, you know, Hollywood. Can we really trust them to come up with decent music? After all theres a lot of reputations riding on this. Theres Gary and Larry and Miss Amy and the Parrot. I want to bring them a settled soundtrack and head them off at the pass. Need some Western background music, any era, any style. Ill start it going with: The Streets of Laredo
  20. . I are off to the Catskills in the morning. Going to to a hotel in the heart of the Borscht Belt to see Rodney Dangerfield. Borrowed a friends 62 coupe de Ville convertible. Fully restored but with a modern sound system. To get in the mood, Tickles has bleached and teased her hair into a bob and is decked out in an amply filled cashmere sweater, a flared skirt, wild scarf, bobby socks and two-tone shoes. Tawnys gone a little more urban with an Agent 99 hairdo, white blouse, red scarf, Toreador pants, and spiked heels. Ive bought a can of Instant Hair, and managed to shape it into a ducktail haircut. With white t-shirt complete with rolled up Lucky Strikes, pegged black pants and leather boots with two inch Cuban heels, Im ready to roll. Problem is Ive only got a limited amount of tunes to draw on. Ive got the Drifters for when we hit Jersey, and of course, Ill be spinning the Duke of Earl for a grand entrance into the Hotel. Now the girls were just barely out of diapers when Cyndi Lauper first sang Girls Just Want to Have Fun so they dont know a lot about the 50s and early 60s Top 40 music. Theres a lot of good stuff from that time, but I need your suggestions. Of course, modern tunes that fit that era would also be welcomed. So, walk dont run down deadmans turn and give me a hand here.
  21. Ray, glad to hear I not the only Sci-Fi fan. Read at least a couple a month. Harlan Ellison's "Repent Harlequin Said the Ticktock Man" is probably my favorite short story. I also have "On the Beach" in my collection. Great stuff. Keep'em coming!
  22. Thanks guys. It's funny but I never realized SS amps needed the type of going over routinely associated with tubes. Oh boy, there goes some more money! Shoud have put this in earlier but the picture is as follow, from top left to bottom: Mr. Panny Sonic, the Chinaman Sansui, the Frog, Msr. Setton From right top to bottom: Marantz, NEC and Pioneer Pete. I have a low end Technics that I actually bought hoping to pull some parts for the Panny but they aren't comptabile. (Technics is a Panasonic brand) Unfortunately the Technics weighs about a pound and gives you about as much power.
  23. Radio, Sure you have! "Rode my Chevy to the Levy but the Levy was Dry" Come'on Klipshters, help him out and add a line...
  24. That's a very kind offer Charlie. Often people list here before they drop it on Ebay, but it's not a rule and hardly written in stone. I like your current offerings but have been dropping a bundle on new gear, rebulding old tubes, colllecting new music etc. so I'll have to pass. However, I am on the lookout for a cheap Turntable. Not at all sure I want to go back to vinyl so I'm on the hunt for a slightly better then bottom end TT to give it a whirl. If you've got anything like that laying around give me a PM. Thanks
  25. Herbert is great. I applaud your discernment. Josehh Heller's Catch 22 is one of the best and funniest novels ever written in this country. True story. My Dad was a WWII veteran and not much of a reader. He picked it up one summer while we were on vacation but he could only read 3 or 4 pages at a time because he'd be laughing so much. One of my fondest memories is of him laying on a hammock, Catch 22 on his stomach and tears of laughter rolling down his cheeks.
