That said, Craig don't be offended, my McIntosh 60s take KT-88s. 4 years ago I paid $500.00 for a Matched Quad of Golden Monarchs. They are still in the plastic bags with the test result graph - frequency response, output. Now that the prices are so high - everyone that gave an offer where price was mentioned either by the Poster or by Smilin' has been a heck of a deal. Just make sure the circuits will accept the 66s, 88s, 350bs if you wind up deciding on multiple types of tubes. Have fun listening and enjoying. Audios, dodger ---------------- In that case, you won't need them. So I will give you $500 for that matched quad.
  3. I meant to type in SX-1280. I think that Pirana is the person that has an SX-1980? Yes I do have numerous amplifiers and receivers. Doesn't everyone? And for the record, it is Mrs. tubelover
  4. My SX-1980 is 185WPC. It sounds very good. Just not as good as the tube amps that I had or listned to on Heritage.

I don't want to spend more than $1,000 on the analog preamp and it must have a phono stage. Thanks. ---------------- How do you like the Linn Ekos and Linn Klyde?

  7. That is a very nice, clear, and detailed pic that it produces. You get what you pay for.
  8. This claim by some has gotten a bit tiring. A Scott integrated on Cornwall's has a ton of bass.

Please understand that I'm not always real bright so maybe I just don't understand, but here's my question: I was reading about the chip amps and thinking "What's the difference between this and my 1975 Technics 25 watt SS single chip receiver ? " Isn't this amp going to have limited head room and make everyone want to go back to tubes for gain and "warmth" ? Maybe I don't really know what the amp is but from what I saw surfing around - it pretty much looks the same as that Technics. Your (kind) assistance please ! Many thanks, Dave ---------------- Technics? WTF? Surely, uou have to be joking with us????
  10. Given good corners, I will take Klipschorns over LaScalas any day
  11. Why believe anything PWK said at all then? I suppose he must have exaggerated the specs on all the heritage speakers too? If PWK designed the speakers, why would one question his suggestions or requirements for optimal listening? You might as well buy Bose. That or develop your own SET speakers.
  12. Just keep in mind that some of the people here are very sensitive and like to complain about everything. Personally I don't take hobbies too seriously, unlike some. There are much more important things going on in life. Welcome to the Forum!!
