  1. Congrats! I don't smoke but when you pass out the cigars, I'll hold it and pretend like I know what I'm doing
  2. Knoxville will get you close enough for conversations. I actually live a bit southwest of Knoxville in "Greenback" (zip 37742). If you look at a map of the area and south of Knoxville (on I-75) see Lenoir City, I'm between Lenoir City and Maryville. I drive through Lenoir City daily on my way to work in Knoxville. Now we just need to figure out how to get Deanie to bring some Graeters & Chesters down with him... it would be quite the tasty treat. Unless of course, you all wanted to try the Montgomery Inn ribs that Roy had. As for how much on a Uhaul... I don't know if your local guy could tell you or if it would have to be the Uhaul in Dayton??
  3. She could have had the perfect opportunity to dispose of the body too.... simply take it up with her in the shuttle and when they did a space walk, she could have the Captain discharge the cargo into free flight. I'm sure no one would have wondered what was in the big bag?? [*-)]
  4. Berryboy... you don't have a PM from me. You do not have any ice cream from me, nor do you have any ribs from me [:'(]. you DO however, have an email. Said email does not contain any pictures nor smells of said ribs & ice cream. [:'(]
  5. Just in case this gestates into further action between you two AND you didn't catch my brilliant idea... Mike... my idea was for YOU to reserve a 1-way Uhaul going from Dayton to Florida. Dean picks it up & packs the Khorns in it. You two meet here and Dean simply gives you the trailer full of goodies. This way they do not need to be removed. You drive home & deliver said trailer back to Uhaul in FL. *Brilliant* [D] [D]
  6. I admit... I kind of like looking at them plug ugly K-402's. They clearly look like they mean business!! []
  7. hmm... do a search on "jubilee" and have fun
  8. I think you're giving me too much credit for knowing what I'm talking about enough and being able to phrase the question intelligently! I'm trying to compare two scenarios A) unbalanced output of Peach into balanced input of DX38 (using RCA/XLR cable and NO transformers). Taking XLR output on DX38 and connecting them directly to RCA inputs on BOTH amps (McIntosh AND SS amps) using again, XLR/RCA cables with no transformers. This is my CURRENT setup (above) My prior and original setup was unbalanced output of Peach (RCA) into the above mentioned transformer. From the XLR output of transformer, I went into the XLR input of the DX-38. From TWO of the XLR outputs of the DX, I went into the XLR inputs of the McIntosh. The other two XLR outputs of the DX38, went back INTO the transformer box and converted back to unbalanced signals. On the front of the transformer box are RCA outputs and those went into the RCA inputs of my solid state amp running the bass bins. My memory tells me my prior setup (using the transformer) yielded punchier bass even though the input to that amp was using an unbalanced signal (coming out of the transformer and being 'stepped down') All my runs are pretty short. The runs from Peach to DX unit are something like 12 or 18 inches. The runs from DX to the amps is (I think) about 10' using the XLR/RCA connections and my other set of cables (when I connect the transformer) are 15'. Does that answer which applies to me, per your question?
  9. So, Tom... can I take what you said above and say this? "the signal coming straight out of the Peach (unbalanced) might not be (probably isn't) the same (as in absolutely identical in strength) signal coming out of the transformer box?" Meaning: The signal line goes from Peach to transformer box inputs, into DX-38, then 2 lines routed BACK INTO the transformer box and are "unbalanced". The "unbalanced" line out of the transformer box might STILL be hotter than the 'stock' signal out of the Peach?? I would have expected them to be identical although my ears suggest something is indeed hotter (never thought of more distortion).
  10. Would this work? (and I'm asking since I don't know) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=013&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=230086780785&rd=1&rd=1
  11. She prefers to chew on ankles... [Z][&] Will go read, thanks
  12. Show her a picture of the Jubilees and she'll NEVER balk at your plan!! [A]
  13. Fritz... lol you should see the (confused) smile on me lol. I guess that last line of yours means I shouldn't do it. Lemme ask you this since you've been here to listen. I've made comments how these Jubilees will 'flap your pants' at 30 feet (while standing in dining room) like the Khorns did at 10' (standing on far side of glass table). That impact was felt while using the transformer noted above. I don't think I've felt that same blowing of air since taking it out. I want to put it back in to verify my memory one way or another. So, with that said, I'm left to wonder why my memory says everything was more lively with the transformer in. 1. Could the transformer simply have created net hotter signals on its outputs so everything downstream of it was getting a higher level signal? That would explain why (memory says) when the volume is set at say 12:00, I'd have a certain amount of punch that today, I need to have it set at 3:00. 2. The thing that has me so curious though is (again, memory says) the bass was simply stronger when the transformer was in. Since the other side of this transformer has a step down (or what ever you call the conversion back to non-balanced) side, logic would tell me the unbalanced outputs of the transformer should be the SAME as they were originally. Yet, memory says things were punchier. Ok...well I guess all this doesn't matter a great deal as I simply need to play with it and see what I think. I just wanted to get an idea of any issues I might have if I went straight from balanced out on my DX, to nonbalanced inputs on my dbx amp. As an related question, why is there evidently an issue taking the balanced output of my Dx-38 to an unbalanced input of my SS amp with a transformer in the circuit yet, with the transformer OUT of the circuit (like when you heard the system) I CAN take a balanced line from my Dx-38 to the unbalanced input of my SS amp?? Did that make sense? I currently have XLR ---> RCA interconnects in the system and ZERO transformer. I also do not have any resistors anywhere in the lines. None, kaput and you heard how it sounded.
  14. Offer to meet in Knoxville is still there. [au]................
  15. I bought one of these on Dr. Who's suggestion. http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=245-868&CFID=3885651&CFTOKEN=85919962 Had it in system and in effort to thin things out, removed it. I've been debating on putting it back in because it SEEMS as though the bass was a bit more lively when I had it and I want to verify that again now that I've had these things for a while. I used BOTH halves of this thing as I have 2 amps, one (2102) with balanced inputs and the other with non-balanced inputs. Here's the gist of my questions. Scenario: If I put this back in, it will convert my inputs (into the Dx-38) into balanced signals. The Dx38 has four balanced outputs, two of which, would go to my 2102. Leaving me to left, do deal with. Question: What might happen (in plain english MAS!! [] ) Anyways... what might happen if I took the balanced signal out of the Dx-38 and put a RCA plug on the other end to the amp WITHOUT running it back through the transformer to 'unbalance' it? Meaning, I'd have a balanced 'signal' going through an unbalanced line (or so I think that is what it means) I expect to hear someone say I'd have an impedence mismatch, but frankly, I don't fully get what that means. It would seem to me that the signal might be hotter than the unbalanced version but I'd then ask "why could I not simply adjust for that hotter signal by attenuating it a bit inside the Dx?" So... is that something I can do without damaging anything?
  16. Bob..(Buckette) [6], just wanted to say it sure is nice how you're carrying the torch here to help out your friend. []
  17. I went into Carlon Audio with a friend. Was 1978. I'd looked with some fascenation at the various Klipsch speakers and their unconventional appearance. I wanted to look at/get the Khorns but knew that was very impractical for me. I was 18 and soon heading off to college. I knew I'd be moving around and lugging those just didn't make any sense. The LaScalas however... made a touch more sense. I pointed over to "there" and said I wanted to listen to those LaScalas. The (prankster) salesman put something on and proceeded to crank it up. I was very impressed with how loud they went (hey...I was 18 and going to college, what other measure was there?) I did have a fleeting thought in the back of my head though... for a box that BIG, they sure had wimpy bass. I really expected a lot more bass out of something that huge. It was then that I looked over to see the salesmans face, beet red, laughing at my expense. Seems they also had a pair of Heresy's (Heresies?) on top of the LaScalas and he pulled the old trick of impress them with the little one (thinking it was the big one) and then blow them away with the big one. I knew I'd been had but it was funny. We all got a laugh at his trick. As my friend & I left the room, I distinctly remember patting one of the LaScalas on the top and saying to my friend "one day...." I bought a pair of LaScalas the next year and still have them.
  18. Hi Roseanaesor, The Bell which Russ refers to belongs to Mike (Mikebse2a3). It is probably as pristine as you can get short of new from the factory. It's walnut and its (his) location is just outside of Knoxville (Maryville, TN) I do know he has no plans to use it anymore so he's looking to find a new home for it. It was used as his center channel between two Khorns. if you are interested in more, email/pm me your phone number and I'll call Mike later (or perhaps he'll stumble onto this thread??)
  19. You can call me at work if you want to (on Monday) 531-5888. I'll know more than about when SWMBO will be absent. []
  20. Isn't the Jubilee made (eq'd) to be behind a screen? (perhaps it's the 3 way version???) Seems like an easy answer to me!!! Add Chambers in the group and the Greater Knoxville area could become "Jubilee Central" Chambers, let me know when you might care to swing by. Since you're local it can be weekday night or weekend. I try to make sure it's timed so wife is gone to work so she doesn't have to put up with some of the SPL's we've done in the past. If you know the area, I'm about a mile from Axley Chapel church, on (gasp) Coytee road!!
  21. People people people.... it's really easy... the optimum size room for a pair of Jubilees, is any room you care to put them in. [8-|]
  22. As an aside, I'd be happy to spend some time in a specific thread, giving (spewing?) some of my philosophies, words of wisdom, educational thoughts on some of these topics. I certainly do not know it all and don't want to portray that I do, nor step on anyones toes. I just know that some of these things (take options for example) seem complicated to many people and when you break it down to the basics, it's not really that hard to understand. It helps having someone explain things in everyday words and even perhaps, using analogies to help clarify the point (something I feel I'm fairly good with at times). I won't do it unless I see some indications of interest. Further, it would have to be clear that ANYTHING I said would be said as simple educational thoughts and my opinions. None would be an offer to buy nor sell anything to anyone. Nothing would be guaranteed to be an accurate nor even whole representation of the entire concept. Stocks go up and they go down... you can lose your entire invested amount by listening to me! Heck... you can even go deaf listening to my speakers! [] (I'm trying to "WING" some disclaimers that I'd feel would make my broker/dealer happy...(not that they'd ever be happy)) Point being... as long as we all know I'm just trying to help enlighten, I'd be happy to do it. I would think (if anyone wanted me to explain some things) that perhaps Amy might need to approve or get approval? seeing as it would be WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY off topic. It could perhaps, be a small return from me helping others in an area I'm familar with, for all the help I've received over the years from others in areas they are familar with. With that, I'll [:#] my mouth & see if & what happens.
  23. No disrespect meant, but I'm glad you missed that one. Given the trading costs in and pending trading costs out, you would still yet to be at 'breakeven'. This is AFTER the stock has risen ...wait... I looked closer to do the math...you're saying you first thought to buy at .20 cents and today it's UNDER THREE CENTS??? yikes! (I misread that and thought you could have bought at 20 cents and today it is bidding 22 cents... where are my glasses... [:^)]) I know you were only talking $500 but that would have hurt the pride, if nothing else!! Word of wisdom I always try to sneak in when I can... "Half the secret to making money (in this business) is not LOSING it... if you can manage your losers, everything else will take care of itself" Unfortunately, I can not tell you HOW many times I witness people managing their winners. Meaning, they'll buy a stock. Let's say it goes up 10%. They then sell it. They sold it, right in the teeth of it doing what they WANT it to do. On the flip side...same person buys a stock and it goes DOWN 10%. Do they sell it? NO, they hold it "waiting for it to get back to breakeven". What if it then drops another 10%?? do they sell it? No, they are now waiting for it to get back to the original -10% position (or 90% of true cost). What if it drops another 10%??? So what ends up happening is, they (this is speaking in broad general terms becuase there are clearly exceptions)... ok, they end up selling the stocks that are doing what they want them to do (go up) and keeping the stocks that are going down. Net result, they end up with a basket of dogs. When ever anyone calls needing to sell some positions for what ever reasons, the first thing I'll try to look at is sell your losers first. We don't ALWAYS do it if we have reasons to elect out of that. As a rule though, if you keep pruning your losers, what is left but "winners" (as defined as assets that are performing like you wanted them to perform). I need to stop typing here... I'm beginning to gab like Dean & Craig... [6] []
